10 – Doomsday Ahead of Schedule
During this period, Ye Jin immersed herself in the Dimension, practicing the Ancient Blade Technique. Following the instructions in the book, she channeled her Thunder ability onto the Ancient blade. The sharp blade, enhanced by the power of lightning, became even more formidable—a single light swing toward the ground left a deep trench.
The book contained numerous combat techniques, all focused on practical application.
The renovation of the villa on Linxi Road was finally complete. Since their current residence had already been discovered by Yu Ruanruan, it was no longer safe. Ye Jin immediately moved in with Xiao Chen and Aunt Chen.
Aunt Chen stood at the villa’s entrance, stunned by the fortress-like resilience of the building. She asked Ye Jin, “Xiao Jin, isn’t this a bit excessive?”
Ye Jin smiled and replied, “Aunt Chen, it’s fine. This ensures safety. From now on, you and Yi Yi will live with us.”
The house certainly felt secure, though it stood out quite noticeably in the area. However, since they were all women and Xiao Chen was still young, any intruders would have a hard time breaking in, giving them enough time to call the police. With that thought, Aunt Chen didn’t press further.
…
That evening, the villa’s doorbell rang.
Finally, they’re here—Ye Jin had been waiting! Waiting for someone who had been incredibly powerful in her previous life.
Opening the door, she saw a burly man holding the hand of a little girl around ten years old. Ye Jin smiled. Zhang Zhang!
Zhang Zhang was taken aback by his employer—such a beautiful woman.
“Hello, I’m the Ace Bodyguard you hired. My name is Zhang Zhang.”
He then introduced the girl beside him, “This is my sister, Zhang Yue.”
Zhang Yue, who had been staring at Ye Jin’s appearance since she saw her, exclaimed, “Sister, you’re so pretty!”
Zhang Zhang frowned slightly. This employer’s request was unusual. As the company’s Ace Bodyguard, his rates were high, and those who could afford him usually faced dangerous situations.
He had just returned from abroad when he received a task—someone had paid a hefty sum specifically for him, just to protect a woman and a child, and even requested that he bring his sister along.
Still unsure about the details, he remained somewhat wary. But with his sister by his side and his own capabilities, he wasn’t too concerned.
Ye Jin, however, had no such reservations.
In her previous life, she and Zhang Zhang had been in the same Base. Though they never spoke, he once saved her during a joint mission against a Tier 4 Zombie.
She also knew he was from S Province and had been searching for his sister for a long time—his only family. By that time, years into the apocalypse, the chances of finding any leads were slim.
Though she wasn’t some saint out to save the world, she never hesitated to repay a debt of gratitude. If she could change someone’s fate, she would spare no effort. So, as soon as she located Zhang Zhang’s current company, she invested heavily to hire him as her bodyguard.
Ye Jin hadn’t expected Zhang Zhang, who looked so rough, to have such an adorable sister. The little girl had round, bright eyes and a sweet, soft voice—utterly charming. Ye Jin patted Zhang Yue’s head and said, “What a good girl. Come on in.”
The two-story villa had several rooms but was currently occupied only by Ye Jin, her younger brother Yu Zichen, and Aunt Chen. Aside from the room reserved for Zhang Yiyi, there was plenty of space for Zhang Zhang and his sister.
Zhang Zhang was surprised to find that he really was just here to be a bodyguard. The villa only housed Yu Zichen and Aunt Chen, and Ye Jin was rarely around. The employer had only one requirement: no unauthorized entry or exit from the villa during the protection period.
He was fine with it, but Zhang Yue was still young and couldn’t hold back her restlessness. Yu Zichen, who was around her age, patiently played with Yueyue every day aside from his boxing practice. Within days, the little girl had grown extremely attached to him.
Apart from practicing her blade techniques, Ye Jin spent her days running around outside, gathering supplies. She had already exhausted all the money she had obtained from the Yu family.
After collecting the bulletproof vehicles modified at the car shop, Ye Jin looked at the fully stocked goods in her Dimension—enough to sustain her, Zichen, and Aunt Chen for several lifetimes.
Recently, she had also received news that Yu Leyang had indeed begun purchasing supplies, and even the Fu Family was stockpiling resources. Ye Jin decided she must first go to the school to pick up Zhang Yiyi.
…
As Ye Jin had anticipated, Zhang Yiyi had been endlessly pestered by Yu Ruanruan these past few days. Yu Ruanruan relentlessly pursued her for information about Ye Jin, sticking to her like shameless chewing gum.
Yu Ruanruan had recently obtained a System that not only helped her become more beautiful and reshape her figure but also allowed her to exchange for anything she desired as long as she completed the System’s tasks.
From the System, she learned that the apocalypse was imminent. She used all her savings to stockpile food, but her meager private funds were far from sufficient.
The Yu family had already exhausted their available cash flow for equity shares, all because of that Ye Jin!
She had taken a considerable amount of their money, and now, if not used soon, that money would become worthless. Moreover, that money rightfully belonged to their family—they had to find her quickly.
Additionally, the System informed her that Ye Jin possessed a Jade pendant containing a Dimension for storing supplies.
She had visited Ye Jin’s previously rented apartment, but it was long empty. Now, her only option was to pester Zhang Yiyi, hoping to discover Ye Jin’s current whereabouts.
…
Red Sun!
Though it was still daytime, the sky suddenly darkened. A second later, the heavens turned crimson.
Ye Jin, who was still driving to the school, widened her eyes in shock—the apocalypse had arrived early!
The sudden darkness caused collisions on the road, plunging the scene into chaos.
A couple who had been holding hands and chatting by the roadside moments ago now saw the woman viciously bite into her boyfriend’s neck, tearing and devouring his flesh amid a spray of blood.
“Ah, murder?” An Auntie who witnessed this scene collapsed to the ground in terror.
More and more people turned into the walking dead, charging into crowds and biting anyone in sight. Car horns blared incessantly on the streets.
Soon, acid rain would fall. Those exposed to the rain would mostly turn into Zombies, while a small minority would develop fevers and awaken Special Abilities or become Mutants. Those with strong constitutions might fall unconscious and awaken automatically.
Amid the chaos, Ye Jin quickly exited her car, stored it in her Dimension, and took shelter in a nearby unfinished shop.
This acid rain was highly penetrating—it was this very rain that caused extensive structural decay after the apocalypse.
Drip! Drip!
Sure enough, it began to rain shortly after, and the world fell silent as many people lost consciousness.
It was unclear how long the rain would last. Ye Jin couldn’t venture out and had to wait for it to stop.
Fortunately, she had left enough food at home for Zichen and the others to last half a month, so she wasn’t overly worried. However, she had no idea what situation Yi Yi was in.
Meanwhile, after a brief period of unconsciousness, Yu Zichen sensed Zhang Yue crying downstairs and immediately got up to check on her. When Zhang Yue saw Yu Zichen was awake, she immediately went over and pulled his hand, saying, “Xiao Chen, you’re finally awake. My brother hasn’t woken up yet, and it’s so scary outside.”
“Xiao Chen, how are you feeling? Zhang Zhang has been running a high fever. I gave him some cold medicine, but he still hasn’t woken up.”
The sudden change in the weather outside had caused Yu Zichen and Zhang Zhang to fall unconscious. With monsters that bite people roaming outside, she was so frightened she didn’t know what to do.
“He’ll wake up soon. Just take good care of Brother Zhang. Whatever you do, don’t go outside—there’s something wrong with this rain.”
Aunt Chen and Xiao Yue hadn’t fallen unconscious, so they must be ordinary people.
He walked over to the surveillance screen and saw a zombie outside feeding on someone. The person on the ground had their stomach torn open, intestines spilling everywhere—a nauseating sight. The zombie was their neighbor from across the hall, and the person being eaten was actually that neighbor’s own younger brother.
Yu Zichen, still just a child, felt his stomach churn at the gruesome scene, nearly vomiting.
Beside him, Xiao Yue was so terrified she began sobbing on the spot. She and Aunt Chen spent a long time retching in the bathroom.
Although he had heard his sister describe such scenes before, witnessing it firsthand still filled him with fear. Would he become like that if he turned into a zombie? A monster that would even eat its own family?
Was there really no saving those who became zombies? He didn’t dare think further, afraid of becoming a monster himself.
Yu Zichen felt his senses had become unusually sharp—he could even detect survivors in the neighboring villa. Was this the Special Ability his sister had mentioned? If he could grow stronger, he could protect her too.
Ye Jin hadn’t returned, and there was no news of Yi Yi. The only adult male, Zhang Zhang, remained unconscious. Now, only two children were by her side.
Aunt Chen was deeply anxious. Despite her age and experience, she had never encountered such a situation. With all communications cut off and emergency numbers unreachable, she was at a loss.
Noticing Aunt Chen’s worry, Yu Zichen spoke up, “Aunt Chen, don’t worry. Yi Yi Jie is probably with my sister. My sister told me this morning she was going to pick her up.”
“But with everything in chaos outside, how will two young women manage?” She truly wanted to go out and check, but she couldn’t leave the two children alone.
“My sister will bring Yi Yi Jie back. This house is very secure—the monsters outside can’t get in. We just shouldn’t open the door for anyone.” He still trusted in his sister’s capabilities. For now, as long as they stayed safe, all they could do was wait.
After some thought, Aunt Chen conceded, “That’s all we can do for now. Thankfully, Xiao Jin was clever to equip this place so thoroughly. We have enough food here. I’d better go cook something for you all.” Keeping busy would distract her from the helpless anxiety.
