The moment Jarad turned his key and pushed open the front door, the quiet stillness of the house wrapped around him.

He dropped his backpack in the hallway with a heavy thud, rolling the tension out of his shoulders.

The school day was finally over, but for him, the real work was just beginning.Full novel: Reborn as juice world — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He took the stairs two at a time, his mind racing with the blueprint he had mapped out during study hall.

He walked straight into his small bedroom, closed the door, and immediately booted up his clunky laptop.

It was time to bring “Wishing Well” to life.

Jarad opened his basic recording software and stared at the blank digital timeline.

Originally, his plan was simple: open a web browser, scour YouTube for acoustic trap demos, and rip an instrumental that vaguely matched the 2020 vibe of the track.

But as his hand hovered over the mouse, his eyes drifted toward the back of his half-open closet.

There, tucked behind a stack of winter coats, was a soft black case collecting a thin layer of dust.

A wave of warmth washed over him.

His mother, Carmella, had always championed traditional instruments, paying for lessons when he was younger to keep him anchored to the church and out of trouble.

Why use a cheap, compressed internet beat when I have the real thing right here?

Jarad walked over and pulled the acoustic guitar from its case.

The wood was cool to the touch, but the moment he sat on the edge of his bed and rested it against his knee, deeply ingrained muscle memory took over.

He plucked the strings, tuning them by ear until the crisp, metallic twang filled the room perfectly.

He grabbed his cheap, silver USB microphone from the desk, positioned it on a stack of books so it pointed directly at the soundhole of the guitar, and clicked record on the laptop.

Closing his eyes, Jarad let his fingers dance across the fretboard.

He played the iconic, melancholic progression of “Wishing Well.” The faint squeak of his fingertips sliding down the steel strings gave the melody a deeply authentic, emotional texture.

He poured all of his lingering teenage angst and the sheer relief of his new life into the chords, creating a rich, vibrant sound.

He was completely lost in the rhythm when he heard the heavy click of the front door unlocking downstairs.

Footsteps echoed on the hardwood, followed by the familiar creak of the stairs.

Jarad kept playing, letting the beautiful, mournful loop ring out naturally.

The floorboards outside his bedroom squeaked, and then his door slowly pushed open.

Carmella stood in the doorway, still holding her purse and wearing her coat from work.

Jarad braced himself for a split second, old memories of her shutting down his recording sessions flashing in his mind.

But as she listened to the pure, acoustic melody echoing from the wooden instrument, the tired lines on her face melted into a soft, radiant smile.

“That sounds absolutely beautiful, Jarad,” she said quietly, leaning against the doorframe, clearly moved by the music.

“You have such a God-given talent with that guitar. I’m glad to see you using it. Keep practicing.”

“Thanks, Mom,” Jarad replied, a genuine smile breaking across his face.

He didn’t have to hide in the shadows anymore.

Carmella gave him a warm, approving nod and headed downstairs to start dinner, humming softly to herself.

As her footsteps faded into the kitchen, Jarad let out a triumphant breath.

He turned back to the glowing screen of his laptop and stopped the recording.

The hardest hurdle was cleared.

Now, before he even thought about stepping up to the mic to lay down the vocals, he needed the instrumental foundation to be flawless.

He leaned into the screen and went straight to work.

He highlighted the best section of his acoustic performance, trimmed the edges, and looped it perfectly on the timeline.

For the next hour, Jarad focused entirely on mixing the beat.

He applied a clean EQ to the raw guitar audio, stripping away the background hiss of the cheap microphone to make the strings sound bright, wide, and professional.

Once the melody was crystal clear, he began programming the drums.

He layered a sharp, rhythmic hi-hat bounce, a crisp snare, and a deep, humming 808 bass underneath the acoustic loop.

He adjusted the levels, panning the hi-hats slightly to the left and right to create a wider soundstage.

When he finally pressed play, the cheap desktop speakers vibrated with heavy, undeniable energy.

The instrumental was a masterpiece.

He had perfectly bridged the gap between acoustic soul and modern trap, all from his childhood bedroom.

The beat was mixed, polished, and ready.

Now, all it needed was his voice.
