After finally calming Summer Knight down, Alexander Barron didn’t give her a chance to react before he swept her into his arm sand made to leave the hillside.

If she kept crying like that, she’d flood the whole mountain.

Just as Little White began wobbling toward them as if to follow, Alexander gave a sharp whistle, signaling the dog to stay.Full novel: Reborn as the Substitute Bride to the Disabled Tycoon — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

The massive Tibetan Mastiff dropped to the ground with a whimper, hanging his giant head as his snowy fur drooped—utterly dejected.

Summer’s heart clenched.

She tugged at Alexander’s sleeve and tilted her face up, eyes wide and pleading.

“Big Brother, Little White looks so sad all by himself.

Can we bring him home?

Pleeease?”

“No,” Alexander replied flatly.

He was worried the oversized furball would wreak havoc back at the estate.

But the moment he refused, Summer’s face crumpled.

Her eyes welled up again, and she stared at him as if he’d just kicked a puppy.

“You’re mean,” she sniffled.

“You promised you’d listen to me, and now you’re breaking your word.”

“Wahhh—I don’t like you anymore!”

Her lips trembled; she was seconds from another meltdown.

Alexander surrendered instantly, his voice softening.

“Alright, alright.We’ll take him.”

A sly little smirk flashed across Summer’s face before she could hide it.

Alexander shook his head, equal parts amused and helpless.

And so, two humans and one gigantic dog made their way down the hill.

They collected Emma Lane on the path and returned to the mansion.

Golden afternoon sunlight stretched their shadows long behind them, painting a scene straight out of a fairy tale.

At the front entrance, Summer wriggled out of Alexander’s arms, stood straight, and looked him dead in the eye.

“Big Brother, Aunt Thompson bullied me earlier.

Now it’s my turn. You’d better have my back, okay?”

Though petite and dwarfed by Alexander’s height, she stood with unshakable confidence.

“Got it,” he replied with a soft grin, ruffling her hair.

He’d left Aunt Thompson here for a reason—so Summer could settle the score herself.

His sweet, once-naive girl had always been trampled on.

Now that she was learning to fight back?

How could he not support her?

He’d back her till the end—if she’d let him.

“C’mon, Little White!”

She called to the dog, and the big lug trotted over instantly, nuzzling his fuzzy head affectionately against her palm.

She giggled—a sound of genuine delight.

With Alexander and Little White flanking her, Summer strode into the villa, confidence soaring.

The housekeepers bowed politely.

“Young Master, Young Madam.”

But their composure shattered when they saw the enormous Tibetan Mastiff trailing Summer—its scarred muzzle, piercing ice-blue eyes, and sheer size sent them stumbling backward in fear.

“Bring Aunt Thompson out,” Alexander ordered.

His voice was calm, but a frosty intensity lingered in his gaze.

No one dared dally.

Staff scrambled to fetch her.

Aunt Thompson was in her room at that moment, pressing a hot compress to her throbbing, swollen legs—still fuming.

She couldn’t understand how things had gone so wrong earlier—how she’d been humiliated by that empty-headed Summer.

She’d already cursed the girl’s name a hundred times, but it did nothing to soothe her rage.

Just then, a panicked maid rushed in.

“Aunt Thompson—something terrible has happened!”

Her shrieking only fueled the woman’s anger.

“You tryin’ to give me a heart attack, yellin’ like that?” Aunt Thompson snapped.

Without warning, she hurled the hot water bottle at the maid.

It struck the girl square in the forehead—she saw stars, staggering back before catching herself.

Clutching her head, the maid trembled.

“Th-the Young Master is back… He told me to fetch you.”

“He’s back?

Good.”

Aunt Thompson’s mood lifted slightly.

She’d been scheming how to put Summer in her place, and now—perfect timing.

Given her years of service and her closeness to Old Mr.

Barron, she was sure she could pressure Alexander into punishing Summer publicly.

After all, the girl was nothing—a clueless child Alexander barely noticed.

Surely he wouldn’t protect her over someone like her.

The thought brought a smug grin to her face.

Summer Knight, you’re finished.

Biting back the pain, she rose and hurried to the living room.

The moment she saw Alexander, she pinched her thigh hard—forcing tears to spring to her eyes—and stumbled forward, wailing: “Young Master, you have to stand up for me!”

No sooner were the words out than something huge lunged at her from the side.

“Aaaah!!!”

She screamed, tumbling onto her back in a graceless heap—limbs flailing.

Her ridiculous posture drew a snort of laughter from someone in the room.

“Hahaha!

Scared you, didn’t I, you witch!”

Summer sprang into view, hands on her hips, beaming at Aunt Thompson’s undignified sprawl.

Only then did the woman realize the “monster” that had charged her was the giant Tibetan Mastiff Alexander had raised since it was a pup.

But that dog—it bit!

Her face went pale.

Trembling from head to toe, she looked ready to burst into tears.

“Little White, come!” Summer called cheerfully.

The fierce beast instantly transformed into an oversized teddy bear, wagging its tail happily as it trotted back to plop at Summer’s feet—submitting gladly to her head-scratches like a well-trained pup.

Aunt Thompson gaped, lips trembling.

She couldn’t comprehend how this creature—that no one else dared approach—obeyed Summer so sweetly.

Alexander watched Summer with undisguised fondness, clearly enjoying his little girlfriend’s boldness.

But when his eyes shifted to Aunt Thompson, his gaze turned Arctic-cold—sharp enough to cut glass.

“Well?

What did you want me to do for you?”

Aunt Thompson jolted back to awareness, chest still heaving.

She shot Summer a venomous glare, then pointed a shaking finger at Emma Lane and broke into messy sobs again.

“Young Master, while you were away, the young lady conspired with this maid to bully me!

They even injured my leg!

I beg you—please stand up for me!”

Emma gasped, fury flashing across her face.

She stepped forward to retort, but Summer caught her arm and whispered something with a sly smile—eyes glinting like she had a plan.

Emma paused, curiosity piqued.

She decided to wait.

“Oh?” Alexander’s lips curved slightly, clear amusement in his eyes.

“So you’re saying Summer bullied you?”

He chuckled softly.

“Well then, I suppose she deserves some punishment.”

He raised a hand, his sharp gaze turning dangerous.

What happened next—nobody saw coming.
