Lin Tianxin gripped Lu Yao’s wrist tightly, forcing a calm expression onto her face. What was Xu Su trying to do?
“It is quite a coincidence. I’m here with my little sister-in-law to watch the movie,” Xu Su said.
Lu Yao frowned and stepped in front of Lin Tianxin, her tone sharp. “Xu Su, why won’t you just disappear? We’re heading home don’t block the way.”
Xu Su seemed not to hear her. Her gaze locked onto Lin Tianxin, voice soft and deliberate: “Tianxin, I have a few words I want to say to you alone, about… something you care about.”
She deliberately paused, her eyes scanning Lin Tianxin’s subtly changed expression. “Just a few minutes, won’t take long.”
Lin Tianxin’s heart tensed. She knew Xu Su had ill intentions, but the implication in her words forced her to be on guard what did she want to do? What did she want to say? She didn’t want to go.
She glanced at Lu Yao, who looked worried, and whispered, “Wait for me at the entrance. I’ll be right back.”
She couldn’t just keep avoiding Xu Su if she wanted to catch her in the act.
“Sis-in-law…” Lu Yao tried to stop her, but Lin Tianxin gave her a warning look.
She followed Xu Su to the cinema’s second floor. The hallway was dimly lit, their footsteps echoing through the empty space like ominous drums against the heart.
The balcony on the second floor faced a small alley behind the cinema, and the evening breeze carried a cool edge as it blew in.
Xu Su turned, her gentle smile vanishing instantly, replaced with a ferocious, resentful glare. “Tianxin, what’s wrong with you? Weren’t we close before? Why have you become so distant?”
Lin Tianxin looked at her pretentious expression, feeling nothing but hatred.
Such an actor was she born from a trash can?
Lin Tianxin stood by the balcony as a warm gust of wind brushed past.
Xu Su saw an opportunity. The orders above were to deal with Lin Tianxin. She had been worrying about how to eliminate her and now, the chance had come.
She didn’t really want to do it, but Lin Tianxin’s lack of cooperation left her no choice.
Lin Tianxin, however, had no idea what Xu Su was plotting. She only wanted to gather evidence to expose Xu Su as a spy.
“Distant? Xu Su, you’re the one who hid things from me first. True friends share honestly with each other. Shouldn’t you have told me what you were keeping from me?” Lin Tianxin deliberately said.
Xu Su’s heart skipped. Her fingers grazed the cold metal of the gun hidden inside her bag. She stared into Lin Tianxin’s eyes, trying to find a crack in the seemingly wronged expression did she know?
Did she know Xu Su was a foreign spy?
“You… you know everything?” Xu Su asked dangerously.
She had hesitated before, reluctant to act violently. Now, knowing Lin Tianxin knew her identity, she couldn’t leave her alive.
But the next moment, Lin Tianxin’s voice carried a slight nasal tone, and her eyes shimmered with tears. “You like my brother, but you never told me. You secretly confessed to him behind my back.” She turned her face away, her tone full of childish pouting and displeasure. “If he hadn’t told me, how long would you have kept it from me?”
Xu Su’s heart dropped back into place with a thud. Her hand gripping the gun loosened, a cold sweat breaking out on her back.
So it wasn’t about her real identity it was just a little girl’s temper. Her taut nerves relaxed instantly, a gentle smile returning to her face. She stepped closer to Lin Tianxin, voice lowered to a mysterious whisper: “Tianxin, it’s a long story. Come closer, and I’ll tell you the reason quietly, alright?”
Lin Tianxin’s alarm bells rang, but she feigned curiosity, tilting slightly toward her.
In that instant, Xu Su’s feigned gentleness vanished, replaced with icy ruthlessness. She lunged forward, using all her strength to shove Lin Tianxin’s back forcefully!
At the cinema entrance, Lu Ye saw Lu Yao, heard her crying, and felt his heart clench as if gripped by an invisible hand.
Lin Tianxin had gone with Xu Su. He had just learned this and rushed back from another province.
Xu Su was a spy he had returned to Beijing immediately after receiving the mission.
He never expected to see such a dangerous scene at first sight.
On the second-floor balcony, the striking figure and Lin Tianxin’s body teetering, plunging straight toward the ground
“Tianxin!” Lu Ye shouted in terror and despair, heart pounding violently as if the blood in his body surged upward, then froze.
He didn’t have time to think. Instinctively, he channeled all his strength into his legs, sprinting toward her fall like a released arrow.
The wind roared past his ears, the alley walls blurred behind him. All he could see was her rapid descent, slender body falling, his heart hammering as if to shatter his chest.
Just as Lin Tianxin was about to hit the ground, Lu Ye reached the bottom. He spread his arms and, using every ounce of strength, caught her steadily in his embrace.
The impact staggered him back several steps before he could stabilize, his arms throbbing with pain but he didn’t care. He looked down at Lin Tianxin, pale and eyes tightly shut, voice trembling and urgent: “Tianxin! Tianxin! Are you okay?”
Lin Tianxin clutched him tightly, arms like iron around his neck, heart still pounding wildly. The sensation of freefall seemed to still grip her stomach.
Her voice quavered uncontrollably: “I… I thought… I thought I was going to die again…” Tears mingled with cold sweat, soaking his shirt.
Lu Ye held her tightly but didn’t move, patting her back gently, voice urgent: “It’s okay now. I caught you.”
He looked down at her pale face, eyes filled with lingering fear. “Does anything hurt?”
Rushed footsteps came from the alley entrance Lu Yao had arrived.
Xu Su had vanished, but her identity was fully exposed. The entire alley was quickly sealed and searched. Lu Yao rushed over, clutching Lin Tianxin’s hand, choking back tears: “Sis-in-law, you scared me to death! Thank goodness Lu Ye got here…”
Lin Tianxin was still trembling, leaning against Lu Ye’s chest. Hearing his steady heartbeat, she slowly regained a sense of reality.
She shook her head and got down from his embrace: “I’m fine… just a little scared just now.”
Lu Ye frowned, glancing up at the second-floor balcony the person was gone.
