She arrived at just the right moment, and as soon as she came, she could see everything clearly.

Fang Yi was still searching for remedies to control or alleviate Ji You’s morning sickness. He had collected a few, but he felt none were reliable. He was unwilling to let Ji You try anything random or messy.

When it was time to finish work, he immediately rode home. Seeing Ji You safe and sound at home brought him great relief. He went straight to take a shower, changed out of his work clothes, put on clean clothes, and walked toward Ji You while drying his hair.Full novel: Reborn in the ’80s: The Supporting Female Character Is Pregnant with the Big Shot’s Child — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He leaned closer and said, “All clean. Smell it. Is it just soap?”

Wrapped in a male scent, Ji You furrowed her brows slightly, leaned back, and said, “You keep coming closer. Aren’t you a bit too near me?”

Fang Yi quickly stepped back, reaching out to grab her arm, holding her firmly. “Okay, I’ll stay further away. Don’t hide from me.”

His wife still found him annoying.

Ji You pinched his chin and said, “No stubble.”

A gentle, clean scent spread from Ji You’s fingertips. Feeling the softness of her touch, Fang Yi’s expression softened. “Okay.”

He was glad his wife was taking care of him now, which made him especially happy.

Zhang Guilan returned a little later. Once home, she emptied the net bag of radishes and hawthorns, saying, “These radishes are delicious and sweet, not spicy. This large hawthorn is hard to find. I’ll cook it with sugar after dinner. It’ll last you several days. Tonight, we’ll have bean buns and tofu with shredded potatoes. Is that okay?”

Ji You replied, “Mom, thank you for buying both radishes and hawthorns. Dinner sounds great too.”

Hearing Ji You say thanks, Zhang Guilan was overjoyed and quickly said, “We’re a family. Don’t be so polite.”

She washed the beautiful radishes, cut them, and put them on a plate. Fang Yi immediately took the plate, picked the reddest radish, and handed it to Ji You. “Try it, but don’t eat too much cold food.”

Ji You took a bite. Crisp, sweet, and juicy with a slight spiciness, she had developed a fondness for radishes since becoming pregnant.

The next day, after breakfast, Zhang Guilan went to work. Ji You strolled downstairs a couple of times, and as seven o’clock approached, she went upstairs with Fang Yi, greeting him, “Turn the radio to the local morning news.”

Fang Yi knew Ji You was diligent about work. Even though she didn’t need to go to the office, she still wanted to listen to the broadcast.

He quickly turned on the radio, adjusting the knob until the morning news theme played.

“Is there major news today?” Fang Yi asked.

Ji You nodded. “Yes. I want to listen carefully. You can go to work. Don’t worry about me.”

Fang Yi said, “Why go so early? I’ll stay and listen with you for a bit.”

“Then don’t make a sound,” Ji You said.

Fang Yi put his index and middle fingers to his lips. “Okay.”

Ji You remembered her previous life, when she was hospitalized and desperate to return to work. She endured discomfort listening to the broadcast and discovered Xue Xiaocheng’s mistakes.

As the local news played, Ji You focused more, ready to catch errors.

Just like before, she heard Xue Xiaocheng stutter.

“You hear that? This announcer stuttered, even stumbled over the script twice,” Ji You said.

If she were the broadcast team leader, she would never have let Xue Xiaocheng cover, and recording instead of live broadcasting wouldn’t matter. She simply didn’t have live broadcasting skills.

Fang Yi nodded. “You heard it. Is it serious?”

He listened carefully this time. Usually, he wouldn’t notice such mistakes.

He realized Ji You wasn’t listening for major news, but for the announcer’s errors.

Ji You explained, “Some announcers might not care, but I think it’s very serious. She not only stuttered, but also made various mistakes. Her mental resilience is weak. After stuttering, she even read faster, forcing the male announcer to slow down.”

Fang Yi didn’t notice the announcers’ speed changes. He was worried about other things. Stuttering twice was a big mistake to Ji You. What if she herself gagged during a broadcast?

That would count as a major error to her.

Her morning sickness was worse in the morning.

Ji You had very high standards for herself. She couldn’t tolerate such mistakes. Would she even consider terminating the pregnancy?

Fang Yi’s view was simple. With a child, the marriage would hold. Terminating the pregnancy would break it. Even if the marriage was in trouble, he didn’t want to divorce Ji You.

He tried to persuade her. “It’s just a small mistake, nothing to worry about. The audience wouldn’t notice in such detail. Even if they did, they’d ignore it. News should focus on content, not delivery. Ji You, it’s nothing serious.”

Ji You immediately objected. “This isn’t a small matter.”

She was strict professionally and explained in detail why such mistakes must be avoided.

Fang Yi thought she was being too serious and quickly pleaded, “Okay, okay. I, as an outsider, don’t appreciate the seriousness. This announcer’s voice is not as good as yours.”

“She’s very bad. Don’t compare me to her,” Ji You said.

Fang Yi hurriedly said, “Fine, I won’t compare you. You are the best announcer in the world.”

Ji You’s clear eyes widened. “You’re just flattering me.”

Fang Yi said sincerely, “In my heart, you are the best.”

Ji You pulled at the corner of her mouth. “Not yet, but I will be in the future.”

The conversation was light, but Fang Yi’s mind was a mess. He didn’t know how to help Ji You with her challenges and didn’t want to show his worries, fearing it would affect her.

Ji You herself was in high spirits, seemingly without any concerns.

“Go to work,” Ji You said.

Fang Yi suppressed all negative thoughts, spent a little more time with her, and said, “I’ll go now. Rest well.”

After Fang Yi left, Ji You didn’t nap like the previous days. She locked the door and headed toward the radio station.

She wanted to tell the team leader in person that she had come early to broadcast.

Just a five-minute walk brought her to the television station. In the hallway, she heard the team leader’s frustrated voice: “Young lady, familiarize yourself with the script before broadcasting. Don’t stutter again.”

The team leader mentioned a few names. “Did you hear them stutter during broadcasts?”

Xue Xiaocheng, just out of the booth, protested, “Team leader, I only stuttered twice. What’s the big deal?”

Ji You thought she had arrived at just the right moment to witness this drama.
