Since the area around the villa was very safe, both of them slept until noon before getting up.
Ru Jiao went into the collection room and placed the jade pendant and jade thumb ring somewhere conspicuous.
After eating their fill, Ru Jiao used familiarizing herself with the weapons as an excuse to enter the collection room with Lin Zhen. She picked up a dagger and pressed her finger against its tip to test how sharp it was. Secretly applying a little force, she cut a small wound into her index finger.
“Hiss…” Ru Jiao let out a soft gasp and casually flicked her finger. A drop of blood fell onto the jade thumb ring, which instantly absorbed it.
“Hm?” Ru Jiao exclaimed in surprise. Lin Zhen looked over, and she deliberately put on an astonished expression.
“Lin Zhen, there’s a hundred-cubic-meter space inside this jade thumb ring!” When she saw his gaze turn toward her, she put the dagger into her space and then took it out again to demonstrate.
Lin Zhen’s pupils contracted. He had originally intended to fetch the first-aid kit to treat Ru Jiao’s wound, but after seeing what had happened, he turned and walked toward her instead.
Ru Jiao explained how she had obtained the space by dripping her blood onto the thumb ring. Then, as though it were an afterthought, she picked up the jade pendant beside it and suggested that Lin Zhen try it too.
Although Lin Zhen thought it was wonderful that Ru Jiao had obtained a space, he did not believe that such things were easy to come by. However, Ru Jiao simply used the dagger to prick his finger and let his blood drip onto the jade pendant.
The pendant instantly absorbed all the blood. Lin Zhen looked rather bewildered. “This jade pendant contains a space of six hundred cubic meters.”
Ru Jiao put on an expression of delight, secretly thinking that she had finally managed to get him to claim the jade pendant.
The two then tried dripping blood onto the other jade antiques in the room one after another, but none of them contained another space.
Ru Jiao had already known the result, so she was not disappointed. Besides, she already had the space inside her jade bangle and had no intention of obtaining another one. Lin Zhen, having acquired the space inside the jade pendant, also quickly got over his disappointment. If Ru Jiao had not been there, he might never have had the opportunity to return to the villa and obtain a space. Its capacity was not small either, so it was already more than enough for him.
Over the next few days, the two of them tried storing all kinds of objects inside their spaces. Living creatures could not be stored inside, but time passed twice as slowly there compared with the outside world. Ingredients that needed to stay fresh could be kept for four or five days, while frozen food could be stored for much longer as long as the ice did not melt.
As a result, Lin Zhen transferred all the ingredients stored in the freezer, along with the freezer itself, into his space.
Now that they had spaces of their own, the two collected all the useful items in the villa and stored them away. They divided the cold weapons in the collection room equally between them, each putting their share into their respective spaces.
There were also several off-road vehicles and luxury cars in the villa’s parking area, including a motorhome. All of them were high-spec models. Ru Jiao took one off-road vehicle, while Lin Zhen stored two other off-road vehicles and the motorhome in his space. Naturally, they also took all the generators provided in the villa. The two even took the opportunity to fully charge the portable electrical appliances they had found before packing them up.
Once everything was ready, Ru Jiao and Lin Zhen each carried a Tang Sword and a dagger before setting off for the hospital.
They stopped the vehicle at the entrance to a small alley behind the hospital. After getting out, both of them took their weapons. As usual, Lin Zhen carried the wolf pup against his chest in a front-facing carrier.
The hospital’s main entrance stood wide open, and zombies could be seen wandering behind the various windows. There were dozens of them in the lobby.
Ru Jiao took out a loudspeaker, turned the volume up, and threw it into the landscaped greenery outside the hospital.
“Fresh fruit for sale…”
A man’s voice rang out. The zombies that heard the noise immediately began moving toward it, crowding their way out of the lobby and rushing in a swarm toward the greenery.
Taking advantage of the distraction, the two ran into the hospital. More than ten zombies remained inside, and they all crowded toward them as soon as they caught the scent of living humans. The two had no intention of lingering there. After dealing with several zombies blocking their way, they entered the pharmacy nearby.
As soon as Ru Jiao stepped inside, she confronted a zombie charging toward her. Lin Zhen casually locked the door before swinging his Tang Sword at another zombie wearing a white coat.
Fortunately, there were not many zombies inside, and they were all low-level zombies. The weapons in their hands were also extremely sharp, so it did not take long for them to finish them off.
The two exchanged a glance and divided all the medicines stored inside equally between their spaces, regardless of what they were used for.
The zombies that had been lured toward the greenery began returning as soon as they heard the commotion in the lobby. Along with the zombies that had remained inside, they crowded against the door and gathered in front of the windows. Even with Ru Jiao’s strong mental fortitude, the sight of so many densely packed zombies staring at them made her scalp tingle.
“We have to find a way to deal with these zombies. We can’t stay in this room forever, and the door won’t hold out much longer if this continues.”
Lin Zhen stared at the zombies gathered in front of the window and spoke slowly.
Both of them fell into thought. In fact, with Ru Jiao’s current strength, even if all the low-level zombies were allowed inside at once, they would still be no match for her. However, now that she and Lin Zhen were companions, she also wanted to give him room to grow stronger.
Lin Zhen looked around the pharmacy. There were now only ten empty metal shelves left in the room. They had not stored the shelves in their spaces when collecting the medicines.
These metal shelves were extremely sturdy and heavy. It would take four grown men working together to lift one.
Lin Zhen’s gaze passed over the shelves one by one. Suddenly, an idea flashed through his mind.
He stored all the metal shelves in his space and then went to the door, asking Ru Jiao to move aside. Behind the door, between it and the wall, he placed several shelves on their sides, ensuring that the door could only open wide enough for one person to pass through.
He then placed several more shelves around the otherwise empty room, creating places where they could take cover once the zombies entered.
Lin Zhen assigned Ru Jiao the task of opening and closing the door while he himself would stay inside the room and draw the zombies’ attention.
Taking their respective strengths and the size of the room into consideration, Lin Zhen decided that they should let only five or six zombies inside during the first round.
After Lin Zhen finished explaining his plan, the two picked up their weapons. He stood beside the shelf closest to the door, while Ru Jiao positioned herself behind it. They exchanged a glance, and Ru Jiao grabbed the handle before quickly opening the door!
The zombies crowded outside became excited and tried to rush inside, but the opening was only wide enough for one person at a time.
One zombie entered the room, followed by several more. Ru Jiao carefully counted them and immediately shut the door as soon as the sixth zombie had entered.
All six zombies were drawn toward Lin Zhen and moved deeper into the room without noticing Ru Jiao behind the door.
Lin Zhen had already dealt with one zombie, so Ru Jiao hurried forward to help. With the dagger in her left hand, she stabbed one zombie in the eye socket, while her right hand swung the Tang Sword into another zombie’s neck, cleanly severing its head!
She drove the tip of her blade into a zombie’s brain, then used her dagger to block the attack of another. She could not help but marvel at how much easier it was to deal with zombies when she had sharp weapons that suited her hands.
Ru Jiao finished off three zombies by herself, while Lin Zhen had already dealt with two on his side. Seeing that he was handling things calmly, she put away her weapons and stood guard nearby rather than stepping in to help.
Before long, Lin Zhen also finished off the final zombie. Neither of them was exhausted, and they did not need to rest. This time, they decided to let seven zombies enter.
Lin Zhen also moved to the doorway. The moment the door opened, he thrust his Tang Sword into the eye socket of the zombie at the front. Following the same method, he killed three zombies before stepping aside and allowing seven more to enter.
In this way, the two of them killed more than forty zombies. Lin Zhen eventually ran out of strength and could no longer continue fighting. Seeing this, Ru Jiao told him to guard the door handle from behind it, while she took over his earlier position at the entrance and began killing the zombies herself.
