“Sophia said the same thing. She even called you a scheming witch, but I don’t buy that. I know you’re not like that.”
To be honest, Sabrina didn’t really think Amelia had the brains to scheme.
In her eyes, Amelia was just clueless.
Guess she’d just have to wait till Amelia got back home and ask her directly.
“Sabrina, stop defending Amelia. She doesn’t deserve a great sister like you,” Ethan said, clearly pissed.
Even he couldn’t explain why he was so angry.
Amelia didn’t mess up today—she’d actually done pretty well.
Right now, Amelia was sitting at Damien’s place.
The private doctor had just patched her up and left.
Damien crouched down in front of her, gently lifting her foot to check the injury.
“How’s it feel?”
Amelia was caught off guard and flinched a little.
“Cold but…
actually feels kinda good.”
“That’s a pretty bad injury,” Damien said, his face a bit grim.
Amelia blinked.
“But the doctor said it wasn’t a big deal, didn’t he?”
Damien looked up at her.
“Muscle and bone injuries take a while to heal.
Starting tomorrow, I’ll come by and help you apply the meds.”
“Wait, seriously?
No need to go through all that.
I can take the meds home.”
My doctor doesn’t hand it out to just anyone.”
“Amelia, why didn’t you—oh!
I saw nothing!” Emily rushed in, covering his eyes dramatically.
“Door was open so I just came in…”
Amelia turned to Damien.
“I’ll leave with my friend now.”
“What’s your friend’s name?” Damien asked.
“I’m Emily Carter, Amelia’s cousin,” Emily said quickly, especially emphasizing the “cousin” part.
Damien nodded slightly.
“Mr. Carter, have a seat.”
Emily hesitated, then sat carefully on the edge of the couch.
“Looks like we’ll be neighbors.
Let’s look out for each other.”
“Oh, no, no.
Please take care of us, Mr. Taylor!”
“I’ll drive Amelia home later.”
“That’d be great!
I’d feel way better with you taking her.” Emily let out a breath of relief.
Good thing he reacted fast.
His biggest fear was Damien thinking he was a love rival—and getting squashed like a bug for it.
Emily and Amelia had been tight since childhood.
Best buds.
And clearly, the “cousin” label was gold.
Amelia: “…” Why did this whole situation feel kinda off to her?
Emily threw her a look full of meaning.
“Alright, I’ll head out.
You two take your time.”
“Damien, if you’re busy, I can totally go home by myself.”
“I’m not busy.
But if you’re in a rush, I can take you now.”
“Guess what!
The food’s here!” Liam suddenly burst in, grinning.
“Sis-in-law, eat before you go, yeah?”
Amelia: “…” Did she hear that right?
Did Liam just call her… sis-in-law?
“What did you just say?” Damien shot Liam a look.
Realizing he slipped up, Liam quickly corrected himself.
“I said…
uh, I’m eating first, alright?
Got a problem?”
“Want some?” As he spoke, Damien had already opened a box for her.
“Thanks.” It’d be rude to reject him, and honestly, she was a little hungry.
Still, why did it feel like she was getting slowly pulled into some kind of trap?
Probably just her imagination.
