Of course, times have changed. This old-fashioned weapon, with its six-round capacity and several seconds of reloading even with a speed loader, is obsolete.
However, the blue-black Colt Python with its 6-inch barrel is incredibly eye-catching. Jack carefully held it, feeling its heavy weight; this behemoth is almost twice the weight of his Glock 22.
Stroking the ivory trim on the grip, Jack was captivated. No man dislikes such a powerful weapon. As a child, he read manga like *City Hunter*, where the lecherous detective always flaunted it.
"Take it. My old spare gun was a three-inch barrel one, which will go with me to the grave. This one was custom-made by Colt with money pooled together by my LAPD colleagues when I retired. I've only test-fired five rounds, and it's excellent."
Hunter's gaze towards Jack was unusually persistent, his cheeks flushed. Seeing his only movable left hand trembling uncontrollably as he gripped the box, Jack swallowed his words of refusal and made a decision in his heart.
"Uncle Hunter, have you ever heard of traditional Japanese medicine?"
Of course, Jack didn't know anything about traditional Japanese medicine. His knowledge of it was limited to making some medicinal dishes for Zoe and soaking goji berries in a thermos for middle-aged people. But spouting theories like yin-yang, and balance was enough to fool the Americans, at least enough to cover up the miraculous effects of his treatments.
For the next half hour, Jack used his silver tongue to persuade the two elderly people to try his massage techniques. To increase his persuasiveness, he even managed to get his great-grandfather, who had once served as a physician to the Japanese imperial family, to join the story.
Ultimately, the allure of being able to stand again convinced Hunter to give it a try. Taking the bottle of medicated oil from Little Tokyo that Hannah had brought from his attic, Jack carried Hunter back to bed, feeling a bit amused and exasperated.
The last time he'd used this oil was when flirting with Zoe; now, applying it to a 70-year-old man for a massage felt strange.
The Proficient level of healing skill was far more controlled than the Beginner level. After two hours of sweating profusely, Jack secretly released his power a few times, repairing the brain damage and also restoring some of Hunter's atrophied muscles, giving his paralyzed right side initial sensation.
"It's amazing! How did you do that? It's unbelievable!" Hunter tremblingly raised his previously numb right hand, trying to bend his fingers, his face filled with disbelief.
"Uncle Hunter and Auntie, there's something I need to clarify first. I don't have a medical license, so I won't admit to anything I just did. I hope you can keep this a secret, especially from your family doctor. Uncle Hunter's recovery from his stroke is all thanks to his willpower and persistent rehabilitation."
A gag order was necessary. Although Jack believed that these two elderly people wouldn't cause him any trouble, the laws in the US that only protect the wealthy is natural. If a doctor noticed this and reported it, the consequences would be unimaginable. He didn't want to get himself into a mess or even have a criminal record because of a moment of kindness.
"Oh my God, Jack, you must be an angel sent by God to save us! You don't know how we've been these past few days… We've even been looking for a suitable nursing home! My God, I don't know how to thank you!"
His new Aunt Dee Dee hugged Jack tightly, sobbing uncontrollably. It seemed that even the strong Detective McCall was exhausted during this time; Hunter's collapse had been a huge blow to her.
The visit, originally scheduled for half a day, stretched into a full day. By the time Jack and Hannah were ready to leave, carrying the gun case, the city lights were already on.
"I'll be coming for another treatment next week. Uncle Hunter should be fully recovered in about two months. Please keep this a secret," Jack repeatedly emphasized, still concerned.
Dee Dee, whose emotions had returned to normal, nodded repeatedly, reluctantly bidding farewell to the two.
Starting the Mustang, Hannah's beaming expression puzzled Jack. What was this girl so happy about?
"Why do I feel like you're even happier than Dee Dee?"
"Because I finally know one of your secrets! You actually know mysterious traditional Japanese medicine! Even Zoe didn't know that!"
"Heh." Jack was speechless, unable to comprehend this girl's thought process.
"So, as the price for keeping this secret, can you tell me the name of that mysterious scent you've been using these past few days?" Hannah smiled like a cunning little fox.
"Huh? What scent? I'm a highly evolved human with no body odor at all. I don't even need antiperspirant. Why would I need perfume?" Although his views differed from his previous life — straight men in Western countries would use cologne to cover up body odor — he truly didn't need it.
"Don't lie to me. Ever since you became a policeman, you've had a really nice minty scent on you. Just tell me, I've been looking for a long time and haven't found any cologne that smells the same."
Jack's brain went blank for a while, and he asked doubtfully, "You mean the Japanese mint water I use?"
"Then why did you say you weren't wearing cologne?"
"Uh…" So on the way home, Jack spent a full half hour explaining to Hannah that Japanese mint water wasn't actually cologne, but a cooling refresher that also helped repel insects. He was also helpless; in August, the daytime temperature in Los Angeles could easily reach 37 or 38 degrees Celsius, and wearing a long-sleeved LAPD uniform made of wool was really a nightmare. Without something to cool down, it wouldn't just be a matter of getting heat rash.
What he found most ridiculous was that this stuff was only available in some Asian markets, and they dared to sell it for $10! Wasn't that even more profitable than those street vendors selling flour?
The next day at work, Jack registered his Colt Python at the police station, carrying what could only be described as a work of art. When he came out, he saw Hannah's overwhelmingly strong scent of mint water attracting the attention of a group of female officers. They had to offer her a bunch of benefits to pry out the source of her scent, which made him laugh uncontrollably.
Today was definitely a lucky day for Jack. Even the usually strict Commander Gray showed unusual kindness to his savior, announcing that Jack could freely choose to wear short-sleeved uniforms, much to the envy of the other two rookies, Nolan and Lucy.
[A/n: So, here system also warns him when he thinks of going to his country of previous life, basically I think it was chingchong nationalism where every one loves, shits and licks and longs to go to ching chong.....And I freaking removed it.]
