Chapter 21: Thousand-eyed Leviathan

Regression of the Manaless Sword God

The shadow beneath the continued to grow rise.

At first, it felt as if it was simply the shadow of the waves, but then it moved.

Something enormous was emerging out from the depth of the ocean. Something that made Ethan stand on edge. All of his senses were screaming at him at once. Continuously yelling the same thing...

Run... Run... Run...

He understood it more than anyone. He had seen what horror, what harrowing existence lives in the ocean, and now... it was coming out.

A massive back broke through the surface, covered in dark, obsidian like scales that reflected almost no light. Each individual scale on its body was larger than a human, overlapping one another like a countless pieces of black armor.

It kept on rising. The ocean around it was bekng pushed aside, forming massive waves.

For a second, Ethan stopped breathing entirely. He tried to look at his whole body, but his eyes failed to do so.

Even after it’s back had emerged out, rest of it’s body was still submerged in the ocean.

Ethan didn’t not dare to look at it again, and immediately pulled the controller to turn the aircraft away, he needed to get far away from here. The farther they reach the better, if not, the ocean will become their burial place.

He tried his best to turn the aircraft away. The sudden shift in its direction impacted him greatly, nonetheless he was able to turn it around, getting away from the wyvern’s way. He pushed ahead at full speed.

However... it was tidy bit late.

His face turned pale when he felt enormous amount of mana gathering behind him. Before he even had a moment to think his body jerked forward.

A terrifyingly massive blue beam of light tore through the depth of ocean and struck the wyvern who was still breathing fire.

The wyvern, along with its fire were blown to smithereens in an instant.

Not even it’s ash remained anymore.

The beam that struck it was so huge that it dig a hole in the clouds.

The ocean itself felt it’s wrath, trembling in fear as its waves rose and fell.

With the impact from that attack, massive tides erupted, but ocean wasn’t the only thing affected by it.

The shock wave from that blast hit the air craft as well.

Ethan tried to gain the control over the craft.

’No, no, no. Fucking hell.’

He tried all he could, but it was already going out of control.

A warning red sign flashed before him.

ENGINE FAILURE.

The force that hit him was enough to knock him cold. The other two pilots were already out cold. It was a miracle that he was able still conscious.

However, even that wasn’t going to stop the inevitable, with the engine unresponsive, there wasn’t anything he could so anymore.

"Damn those fucking lizards!!" He cursed at the wyvern in frustration.

He tried to gain the control back, but it was moving straight for the ocean.

The one place he was forbidden to step in. He did not fear going into the forbidden zone, but he was scared to set foot inside the ocean. Not until he has enough strength to stand against that monster.

He looked around, trying to figure out a way out of this. Alas, he found none.

There was no other way than to get into the ocean.

’I will die for sure if I fall there. Me being manaless is useless infront of that abomination.’

No matter what, he absolutely cannot dive into the ocean.

He needed to find something fast.

He clamed his thoughts, swallowing hardly, he looked ahead.

The continent wasn’t far from here, he needed to land on the other side, but for now, landing on the land was enough.

A quick death and a painful one... which one is better? His options sure were pleasant.

"I regret my choice now. Forgive me you two." He shook his head and apologised to the unconscious pilots.

Ethan’s eyes moved across the cockpit before stopping at the red emergency locker beside his seat.

He immediately opened it and took out one parachute from there.

Without wasting any time, he strapped the parachute around himself.

After he was done, he opened the door of the cockpit and ran towards the back of the plane.

It was far more difficult for him to get to the back when the plane was falling down, he held himself onto one side of the plane and pushed his body forward.

After a brief struggle he finally reached the emergency door.

The emergency door opened with a hiss sound. The wind was blowing veey violently, he almost swept away with it. Ethan grabbed the side railing and looked outside. Ocean far below him, the distance between him and his destination was enough to make an ordinary person hesitate.

’This was a bad decision.’

He tightened the straps of his parachute one last time. Looked at the continent and stepped forward.

He jumped, falling from the plane. The wind swallowed him instantly.

For several seconds, he simply fell. The air craft rapidly disappeared above him toward the endless blue beneath.

He steadied his body, movkng straight towards the continent.

Reaching, what he felt like an appropriate distance, he pulled the deployment cord.

WHOOSH~!!

The parachute opened. His body jerked upward violently.

Ethan gritted his teeth, adjusted his position and looked ahead. The continent was still far away.

Too far.

His eyes moved downwards, at the ocean. He saw nothing beneath it vast blue surface.

And yet... he felt it.

Something was watching him from its depth. He gulped his saliva. At least for now, he escaped it’s grasp.

If he had indeed fallen into the ocean, there was not a single chance, even by luck, that he would survive.

’Nothing escapes his sight, after all he had a name in my past life... Thousand eyes Leviathan.’

He continued to float in the air, moving slowly and slowly towards another hell after this one. After what felt like eternity he was finally seeing the edge of the continent.

It was a good news, right? Well, it should have been, at least two centuries ago.

Even now, he wasn’t particularly glad that he saw the land.

He got closer and closer to the land, adjusting the parachute, Ethan prepared to land.

With few struggles, he finally reached the solid land.

A land already ruined decades ago.

It had long lost the touch of human civilisation, now it was an inhabitation of monsters.
