I hadn't even opened my eyes yet when the smells of grass hit my nose, and a breeze was blowing all around.
I felt myself over — alive. Dressed the same as when I died: black pants, a black shirt, and a white tie.
I looked around. An endless plain, a lake, a small forest.
I stood up in the grassy plain.
"I summon the infantry battalion."
And with the clicking of bolts and the roar of engines, the infantry battalion appeared before me.
There was a loud, simultaneous click of seven hundred soldiers' bolts. It even gave me goosebumps.
Seven hundred faceless soldiers, in full gear, divided into companies, platoons, and groups:
— A fire support company with anti-tank systems and mortars.
— An engineer platoon.
— A sniper group with heavy sniper rifles.
— A reconnaissance group.
— 20 M2 Bradley IFVs.
— 20 Stryker APCs.
— Tow trucks with trailers, fuel tankers, jeeps.
The vehicles stood there, fuming the air, pressing down the pristine green field and dripping oil onto it.
"Okay, Recon — survey the immediate area. Engineers — start setting up camp. Everyone else — vanish."
And silence fell over the clearing. Almost all the vehicles disappeared, leaving only a platoon and a group.
The engineers pulled rolls of HESCO bastion from their truck, placing them around the perimeter. Others unrolled the razor wire behind the HESCO. An HMEE roared to life, starting to dig a trench and immediately filling the HESCO baskets. A couple of engineers grabbed chainsaws and headed toward the forest.
Meanwhile, the recon troops, wearing camouflage that blended with the grass, scattered in different directions in a crouching run.
I watched, mouth agape, as the razor wire quickly unspooled and the HMEE effortlessly dug into the earth, filling the baskets.
I collapsed to the ground, unable to move.
"..."
Wow… So they already know what to do.
What have I gotten myself into…
