ROSALIA’S POV
This past week, I contacted him and asked him two important questions.
Does he have a mate?
Does he have a girlfriend?
He answered no to both questions, which was perfect.
“I told you that my conditions would be difficult, but these are my conditions in exchange for paying off your debt.” I reiterated to him.
David contemplated for a moment.
“But what about Alpha Ramirez? Won’t he kill me when he finds out?”
I smiled at him.
“I wouldn’t ask you to do something so risky if I wasn’t sure I could get us out of it.”
Alphonso was certainly unhinged, but he wouldn’t have a reason to hurt David if my plan worked.
I would take the blame off him.
I was making it seem like he had a choice.
“Think about it carefully, though, because you can’t undo it. However, I will compensate you well and give you more than the debt you owe: 500,000 Euros, and you can have lovers at your discretion. I won’t expect any love from you. All I want is the bond.”
A troubled expression was on his face as he contemplated.
I gave him some time to think.
“Yes, ma’am. I will form the bond with you.” He replied after a while.
“You’re sure?” I asked once more.
Once he agreed, there was no going back.
“I will most likely die if I don’t pay my debt. If in exchange for my life I have to bond with someone else, that’s far better,” he replied without concern.
My eyes widened.
There are people out there who do anything for the people they love.
“Let’s do it then,” I replied in a strained voice.
It was shitty to exploit someone like this, but I wanted to get something out of this too.
I didn’t mind that I was never going to get married.
After Alphonso, I didn’t know if I could trust anyone else.
I’ve always been alone.
I probably always will.
So forming a bond with David was inconsequential for me, but he couldn’t form a bond with someone he loved in the future.
David and I stood in the middle of the room and prepared to say the bonding vows to each other.
The key to my freedom was to make myself as useless as possible to everyone, whilst no one knows about my ability.
Patricia forming a bond with Alphonso didn’t mean I would be free.
He could still keep me at his side and make me his co-luna or mistress since I would still be unbonded.
He had already implied that if he and I married, Patricia could still be his mistress.
But if I belonged to someone else, that changed everything.
No matter how much power Alphonso had, he couldn’t override the Moon Goddess’s law.
David was the perfect candidate because he’s a sentinel.
A lower rank and far removed from alpha politics.
As for who would take the blame?
That was the beautiful part of all this—the one who misled him.
We began to recite the mate bonding vows.
The vows were in an old language similar to Latin, but actually far older. Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.
In my vision, I was saying my vows to someone I couldn’t see.
I hoped that meant David was the one.
Thank goodness.
David was about to find out I had the ability.
I knew he was a stranger, but I didn’t mind.
He would only make himself a target if he told anyone about it.
Only a few more lines and then we seal the bond i thought to myself.
The doors suddenly swung open.
Shit.
Don’t tell me I was out of time.
“Who?” My head snapped toward the doors.
It was a man wearing a Sentinel uniform, not of the Ramirez Pack, and he came toward David and me.
“Who are you?” I asked him.
“Helio,” he answered.
He had distinct red hair and golden eyes.
I realised he looked familiar.
He was the man I’d bumped into in the hallway earlier.
“What do you want?” I asked.
“I want to be a part of whatever plan you have going on,’ he said.
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“Form a bond with me instead,” he said.
