Holding the recording and Ben’s ID card, Leon slowly stood up, frowning.

“What are they trying to do?”

Alan Han had listened to everything as well and answered in a serious tone.Full novel: Resident Evil: Starting at the Gas Station with Leon — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“It sounds like some kind of conspiracy.

Just like everything happening in Raccoon City right now.”

“Don’t get discouraged.

We’ll figure it out.

I have a feeling we will.”

Sensing the heavy mood between them, Claire spoke up to reassure them.

Sherry looked a little confused.

She thought she had just heard her mother’s name.

Leon glanced at the recorder, then put it away.

“I’ll find out the truth.”

“We will.

Just stay safe, Officer.”

They walked out of the cell, but before they could go far, alarms suddenly blared throughout the detention center, and red warning lights flickered on.

The piercing sirens and flashing lights made for an unsettling combination.

What made it worse was the countless metallic grinding sounds mixed with hoarse growls.

Every cell door had opened.

“This is bad.”

“Sherry, up here.”

Claire picked Sherry up to make sure she wouldn’t get separated in the chaos.

“No kidding.

Run!”

Zombies flooded out of the cells, the red lights reflecting in their murky eyes.

Leon rushed over and shut off the alarm switch.

Just to be safe, he pulled the pin on a grenade from his waist and tossed it behind them, then immediately ran down another corridor with Alan Han.

A heavy explosion echoed behind them, the shock traveling through the floor.

“…One surprise after another.

I really need some better luck.”

Leon tightened his grip on his gun as the Tyrant approached head-on.

Alan Han exchanged a look with him, then pulled out the Lightning Hawk and fired at the Tyrant’s leg.

A burst of flame erupted from the muzzle as the bullet slammed into its calf.

The Tyrant’s advance stalled for a moment.

Leon seized the chance, rolling past its side, then raised his shotgun and fired at the same leg.

The pellets tore through the smoke and struck with a deafening blast.

The Tyrant dropped to one knee, but everyone knew it hadn’t really taken any damage.

They just needed to buy time for the others.

Alan Han took a breath, raised his gun, and covered Claire as she passed.

Then, copying Leon, he dodged a punch from the Tyrant and rolled awkwardly back to Leon’s side.

“Run!”

They sprinted toward the exit.

Alan Han tapped Leon on the shoulder, then pulled out a grenade and tossed it toward the corner ahead.

The two turned in sync to avoid the blast, shielding Claire behind them.

The explosion roared, and fragments scraped against the walls with a harsh, grating sound.

Two zombies hiding around the corner were blown straight into the middle of the corridor.

There was no time to deal with them.

The group ran past the fallen bodies, burst through the door, and rushed into the parking garage.

They barely had time to catch their breath.

Suddenly, the wall exploded outward, and a massive black hand lunged at them.

“Watch out!”

Alan Han shoved Leon back with his arm and retreated.

The Tyrant’s hand hung in the air for a moment before dropping, then it strode toward them again.

At that moment, a transport vehicle in the distance roared to life, its headlights blazing.

The engine thundered.

Inside the vehicle, a slender hand released the handbrake, and a high heel slammed down on the accelerator.

Alan Han, Leon, and even the Tyrant turned to look.

The vehicle slammed straight into the Tyrant, the front end crumpling on impact.

The Tyrant was driven back into the wall and went still for a moment.

Ada Wong opened the door and stepped out with a composed, confident stride.

“Ada?!”

Leon lowered his gun, surprised and confused.

“I’m getting tired of this.

Saving you again.

That makes two times.”

Ada Wong spoke as she turned, then walked toward the gate.

“I didn’t know you kept score like that.”

Leon spread his hands helplessly.

Claire crouched down to check on Sherry.

“Listen, this isn’t a game.”

Before she could finish, Ada noticed the vehicle slowly shifting backward.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Seeing the Tyrant about to push the vehicle aside, Leon stepped back and aimed his gun.

Ada clicked her tongue in annoyance and took something out.

“Nothing here ever stays dead.”

She pressed the detonator, and the vehicle exploded.

The flames rose as the wreck burned.

This time, the Tyrant finally stopped moving.

“You’ve got the key card, right?”

Ada Wong looked at Leon.

“…Yeah.

And this.”

Leon tossed her the recorder.

“I hope you can explain what this is.”

“Maybe.

Let me listen first.”

Ada Wong considered for a moment, then lifted the recorder slightly toward Leon as she answered.

“Let’s go.”

She glanced at Leon, then at Alan Han, Claire, and Sherry behind him, and walked toward the gate.

Leon stepped forward and swiped the card.

Ada Wong ducked under the door before it fully opened, while the others waited for it to rise completely.

Catching up to her, Alan Han and Leon saw her listening to the recording.

It was the same conversation.

She stopped it before it finished.

“Is it what you were looking for?”

“Unfortunately not.

Ben messed up.”

Ada Wong raised a hand to shield herself from the rain as she spoke quietly.

“Then what are you investigating?”

“The one behind all this chaos.

And you?

The hero here to save the world?

You’ve protected them well.

And there’s even a kid with you?”

“I’m not a kid.

I’m a college student.

A legal adult.”

Alan Han replied with some frustration.

“Maybe.

But you still look green to me.”

“…I promised Chief Branagh I’d find someone to help.”

Ada Wong glanced at Leon.

“Then I wish you luck.”

They reached a large pit in the road.

Ada sighed.

“No way through.

Looks like we have to go through the gun shop.”

When they arrived, they found it locked.

Ada Wong knelt down and started picking the lock.

“You can pick locks too?

You really know a lot.”

Feeling oddly safe, Alan Han relaxed too much and teased her.

In just a few quick motions, the lock clicked open.

Ada Wong glanced at him.

“Interested?

I can teach you sometime.”

Alan Han felt like there was a hidden meaning there and quickly waved it off, saying he was just joking.

Ada Wong’s lips curved slightly, then she stood and pushed the door open.

“Han, she’s experienced.

You won’t be able to tease her like that.”

Claire commented quietly.

“What a mess.”

Ada Wong frowned as she stepped inside.

Leon immediately began searching the shelves.

Just as he picked up a broken gun barrel to check it, a rifle suddenly emerged from the darkness, aimed straight at him.

“Don’t move!”

A man’s voice rang out, tense and unsteady, as if he had just gone through something terrible.

“I don’t mean any harm.”

“I said don’t move!”

“I’m just passing through.

Please lower your weapon.”

Leon raised both hands.

“As if I’d believe that.

Turn around and go back where you came from.”
