With the gun in his hands, Alan Han suddenly felt much less afraid, even a little excited.
Still, he obediently followed Leon out of the hallway, planning to head back to the lobby first.
“My God… they’re everywhere.”
Leon fired a few intermittent shots, dropping several zombies.
But before long, the ones that had fallen started getting back up.
Alan Han tried as well, raising his gun and aiming at the zombies’ heads before firing a few shots.
The deafening gunfire and the shock reverberating through his grip made him instinctively pull the trigger harder, throwing off his aim.
One shot hit a nearby zombie in the head, while another grazed past the neck of one behind it.
The choking smell of gunpowder at the muzzle and the blood bursting from the back of the zombies’ heads sent his adrenaline surging.
But the recoil left his hand numb, and the ringing in his ears was impossible to ignore.
Alan Han loosened his grip slightly to ease the numbness.
Even with relatively low recoil, anyone unfamiliar with guns would still find it uncomfortable.
He rubbed his ear with his left hand, then tightened his grip on the pistol and fired a few more shots.
Roar!
More zombies were coming from behind.
Seeing this, Leon trusted Alan Han to cover his back.
He turned and stood back to back with him, raising his gun to fire.
The zombies behind them staggered under Leon’s shots.
One or two were blown apart at the head and dropped, but the next moment they started crawling toward him again.
Leon ejected his empty magazine and pulled out his only spare from his pocket.
Alan Han’s hand trembled slightly as he kept aiming at the zombies’ heads and firing.
But their constantly swaying heads made them hard to hit, and the adrenaline threw off his breathing.
He had almost emptied the entire magazine.
Who said headshots were easy?
Alan Han hesitated, unsure whether to keep shooting at the zombies farther away.
Seeing that the ones behind weren’t closing in too quickly, Leon turned to check the situation ahead.
The nearby zombies crawled forward slowly, while those farther away seemed only lightly injured.
“Looks like your aim still needs some work, Han.
And you’re out of bullets to keep practicing.”
Leon fired another shot at a zombie that wasn’t fully down, then turned back with a teasing remark.
There was no other reason to retreat.
He was low on ammo too.
Alan Han felt a bit unwilling to admit it, but ammo was a real limitation.
They should head back first and scavenge more later with Leon.
Ammo was scattered throughout the police station.
Sure enough, fear comes from a lack of firepower.
Thinking about that, Alan Han glanced at the Press Room nearby.
There seemed to be a fuel canister inside.
If they wanted to use a flamethrower later, they would need it.
But…
Looking at the zombies closing in, it was better to head back for now.
There would be chances to get it later.
Leon told Alan Han to crawl under the iron gate first while he covered the rear.
Alan Han hesitated for only a second before starting to crawl.
Staying behind would not really help anyway.
“Come on, Leon.”
After crawling through, Alan Han called out to him.
Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a police officer approaching, clutching his stomach.
That must be Marvin.
Still, getting Leon out came first.
Just like in the original scenario, as Leon was about to crawl out, a zombie grabbed his ankle.
Alan Han pulled with all his strength.
With Marvin lending a hand, they managed to drag Leon out safely.
Seeing the zombie half stuck under the gate, Marvin kicked it away, then slammed the iron gate down hard, crushing it into something like strawberry jam splattered across the floor.
Incredible strength, especially while injured.
Alan Han gave him silent approval.
“You’re safe… for now.”
“Thanks.”
Alan Han and Leon thanked Marvin together.
“Ha… Marvin Branagh.”
“Leon S.
Kennedy.” “Alan Han.”
“There was another officer… but I couldn’t save him.”
Leon crouched slightly, breathing a bit heavily, speaking with regret.
Marvin said nothing, only extending a hand to him.
“Come on, Leon.
You did everything you could.
So did this man.”
Leon paused for a few seconds, then took his hand and stood up.
…
“Alright, does anyone know how this started?”
“No idea.
Honestly, there’s only one thing you need to remember here.
Be extremely careful, or you won’t survive.”
“I was supposed to report for duty last week, but I got a last-minute notice telling me to stay away.
I never expected… I wish I’d come sooner.”
As he spoke, Leon put on his police uniform and bulletproof vest, straightened his clothes, chambered a round, and holstered his pistol.
Alan Han did not have a matching uniform.
He could only wear a bulletproof vest and carry a holster.
“It’s good that you’re here, Leon.
That’s what matters most.”
“…Understood, Chief.
I’m ready.”
Seeing Leon’s resolve, Alan Han stepped forward as well.
“Same here.”
Marvin ran his fingers over the pattern on his notebook and looked up at them.
“If all goes well, you’ll find a way out… The officer you met earlier, Elliot Edward, thinks you can escape through this secret passage.”
As he spoke, Marvin handed the notebook to Leon.
The movement pulled at his wound, making him grunt in pain.
Leon glanced at the notebook again.
“That’s great.”
“We can get you to a hospital.”
Marvin held his wound, bending slightly.
“No.
That’s not important right now.”
Leon frowned.
“I can’t just leave you here.”
He spoke firmly, looking at Marvin’s pained expression.
“That’s an order, rookie.
Save yourself first.
And besides, there’s a civilian here.
You should get him out.”
Alan Han scratched his head.
So the civilian was him.
Fair enough, he did look harmless.
But now that he had a gun, he could at least put up a fight.
“I want to go with you, but I’d only slow you down.”
Seeing Leon still unwilling to give up, Marvin pressed him again.
Leon looked away helplessly, then back at Marvin, words stuck in his throat.
“Oh, right.
You’ll need this.
Remember, do not be like me.
Whether that thing is wearing a police uniform or not, do not hesitate.
Understood?”
Leon took the Combat Knife and nodded.
“Yes, sir.”
Alan Han looked at Marvin, who was grimacing from the pain of his wound.
“Do you want me to stay and look after you, Officer Marvin?
You really don’t look well.”
Marvin looked at the fair-skinned Alan Han, opened his mouth slightly, then glanced at the gun in his hand before shaking his head.
“No, kid.
I know my own condition.
You’re a fighting force.
As long as you stay safe, you’re better off sticking with Leon.
But thanks for the concern.
I’ll manage on my own.”
Alan Han nodded silently.
It seemed Marvin already knew what he would become sooner or later.
Was he worried that Alan Han would not be able to pull the trigger when the time came?
Walking away with Leon, Alan Han checked the ammo in his handgun and asked Leon for a few more rounds.
“This is not how I imagined my first day.”
After handing over the bullets he had found in the lobby, Leon pulled out his knife and cut through the yellow tape sealing the electrical panel.
He opened the panel, restored power to the iron gate, and once it was fully open, stepped inside.
“Of course, Leon.
I am sure they were looking forward to your arrival, but this disaster changed everything.”
Still a bit clumsy, Alan Han pressed bullets into the magazine as he responded.
Leon shook his head, about to say something, when the Police Radio crackled with static, followed by a man’s voice.
“This is Air Patrol 73… static… heading east… will rendezvous in Raccoon City… repeat…”
Alan Han thought for a moment.
That helicopter was probably going to crash.
He sighed and did not notice Leon moving ahead.
At some point, Leon had already approached the figure slumped in the corner, head lowered, still wearing a police uniform.
Could it be an injured officer?
“Leon?”
Before Alan Han could stop him, Leon had already lifted the corpse’s face.
The jaw hung separated from the cheek, flesh dangling loosely.
!
Leon immediately realized and gently lowered the body back, unable to bear the sight.
“You just promised Officer Marvin you would not hesitate, and now you go and do this.
That scared you, did it not?”
Alan Han walked up beside him, glancing at his slightly pale face, unable to resist making a light remark.
