After leaving the hospital, Adrian and T-Lilith returned to Loplers at once.
Standing below the office building, Adrian looked up at the narrow structure.
Not long ago, several different groups had fought around his tiny office hard enough to turn the street into a battlefield.
Seeing the building still standing mostly intact left him genuinely surprised.
He brought T-Lilith up the stairs and reached for his key out of habit.
Then he looked at the lock and frowned.
The lock was gone.
He pushed the office door open and stared at the bullet holes in the walls and the broken glass scattered across the floor.
His mood turned complicated.
Beside him, T-Lilith tossed aside her crutch.
She stretched lazily, then punched the cast around her leg.
The plaster shattered, revealing her smooth, fully healed leg beneath.
T-series B.O.W.s had absurd regenerative ability.
In truth, T-Lilith’s leg had already healed while Adrian was still unconscious.
But she had not been allowed to take off the cast, and she had been forced to limp around on crutches for appearances.
A broken leg recovering in less than two days was exactly the kind of thing that made people ask questions.
Now that they were back in Loplers, however, there was no need to care quite so much.
Adrian cleaned the wrecked office with a defeated look on his face.
He swept out the broken glass.
He tore pages from the previous owner’s old collection of adult magazines and used them as makeshift posters to cover the bullet holes.
Before long, a stubbled old man pedaled up on a tricycle.
Without a word, he replaced the window and installed a new lock.
A room full of bullet holes was nothing special in his eyes.
After collecting his pay, the old man left in good spirits.
Once the place was cleaned, Adrian decided it had finally returned to the barely habitable standard he called home.
He showered with T-Lilith, changed into clean clothes, opened a cold beer, lit a cigarette, and sat down on the wiped-clean couch.
For the first time in what felt like ages, he let out a long breath.
Peace.
There were still plenty of problems left.
He had not paid Sawyer for the warehouse rental.
He probably needed to buy new weapons.
The gangs and the local military would likely come asking questions about that night soon enough.
Trouble was still stacked up behind him in piles.
But for now, he threw all of that to the back of his mind.
T-Lilith came over and sat on his lap.
She leaned into him with soft, boneless ease and rubbed her cheek against his neck.
Adrian set down the beer, wrapped an arm around her waist, and enjoyed the small pocket of quiet.
“This is nice…” T-Lilith said softly.
“Yeah,” Adrian said.
“It is.”
Once that happened, those people would have much less time to bother him.
After a fight that had nearly killed them both, he and the living weapon in his arms had finally made it home together.
They looked at each other and smiled.
The air between them warmed.
Adrian kissed her gently.
T-Lilith leaned in at once and answered him with sudden intensity.
He did not know how long they kissed.
By the time their mouths parted, Adrian was almost out of breath.
T-Lilith’s pale cheeks held a faint blush.
Her eyes were hazy, and she lightly licked her lips as if she wanted to lean in again.
‘She is going to be the death of me.’
“Greedy,” Adrian said, tapping the tip of her nose.
“Hehe…”
T-Lilith gave a dazed little laugh, then leaned in again.
Her soft mouth pressed to his.
With only a little force, she pushed him down onto the couch.
After another long kiss, Adrian finally managed to breathe.
“Are you trying to smother me?”
T-Lilith sat astride him, both hands braced against his chest.
Red light shimmered in her eyes.
The look in them was both innocent and shy, like a woman staring at the person she loved, and predatory, like a hunter measuring prey.
“T-Lilith likes Adrian…”
Her voice carried that slightly strange cadence of hers.
She reached down and slowly pulled open her own top.
Trapped beneath her, Adrian swallowed and stared at the woman above him.
“You can’t be serious…”
The afternoon vanished.
By the time dusk settled over Loplers, Adrian had to brace a hand on the couch just to get up.
A pale hand reached toward his lap.
He gently pushed it aside and looked down at T-Lilith, who was lying on the couch and watching him.
“Don’t.
I have nothing left.
Not one drop.”
T-Lilith rolled with a cushion in her arms, then crouched on the couch with half her face peeking over it.
Her red eyes followed him as he dressed.
“You should get dressed too,” Adrian said, half to himself.
“We still need dinner.
What should we eat tonight?”
With his back turned, he suddenly felt two pale arms slide around his chest.
T-Lilith, still bare, pressed close against his back.
“Why are you so clingy?” Adrian laughed and patted her arm.
“Come on.
Get dressed.”
T-Lilith released him and went to put on her clothes. You are reading on g.com, the official source.
Once dressed, Adrian turned on the computer, then went to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator.
There was not much inside.
A few odds and ends, some seasonings, several eggs, and leftover rice from the curry he had made the other day.
Adrian smiled.
He lit the stove, chopped carrots and scallions, heated the oil, cracked the eggs into the pan, then added the rice and a handful of seasonings.
As he worked the spatula with practiced ease, he glanced back and saw T-Lilith standing in the kitchen doorway with only his jacket around her shoulders, watching him with light in her eyes.
A powerful sense of deja vu rose in him.
“This looks a lot like the first time we met,” Adrian said, unable to hold back a smile.
“Same you.
Same me.
Same pan of rice and eggs.”
T-Lilith said nothing.
She only looked at him.
The rice was ready soon after.
Adrian took out two plates and smiled at her.
“This time, don’t eat it straight from the pan.”
T-Lilith smiled happily.
The two plates of fried rice went onto the table.
Adrian sat across from her and watched as she spooned bite after bite into her mouth, her face full of quiet happiness.
“In the hospital,” T-Lilith said, “T-Lilith could not eat Adrian’s cooking…
no appetite.”
“It’s fine.
We’re back now.
I promised, remember?
I’ll cook for you every day.”
“Promised,” T-Lilith said, nodding with satisfaction.
Adrian looked out at the lights beyond the window.
Loplers at night was nothing like the nights he remembered from his old world.
The world of Resident Evil was nothing like the world he had once known either.
His life from here on out probably would not be smooth.
Conspiracies and bloodshed would never stay far from the Mad Dog of Loplers.
But when he turned and saw the silver-haired woman sitting across from him, a smile rose on his face.
“This…
is not bad at all.”
End of Volume One.
