Once the room quieted, Adrian continued.
“First, I will not accept any invitation from any country, organization, or company that requires me to leave my country.”
“Second, I will not sell my technology to anyone. We will produce it ourselves.”
“Finally, ambassadors, please leave your contact information with my secretary. Once formal sales begin, we will need your help opening the necessary distribution channels. I trust you will not refuse.”
“That is all. I still have matters to handle, so I will not keep you for dinner.”
Adrian stated his position clearly and left the conference room without looking back.
The people he left behind stared at one another in disbelief.
They had offered terms that were almost unprecedented in the industry.
Even Nobel Prize-winning medical researchers would receive slightly less favorable treatment.
Seeing Adrian leave, Daniel and the Southgate manager exchanged a glance and smiled faintly.
As long as the technology stayed inside the country, they were confident they could carve out a share of the prize.
“Daniel,” the Southgate manager whispered, “I know a few people in the patent office. Why don’t we find time to talk to them?”
His voice was very low, as if he were afraid of being overheard.
But even if the others heard him, what would it matter?
They would only laugh.
None of them could have imagined that Adrian had never planned to apply for patent protection in the first place.
After leaving the conference room, Adrian went straight into the office next door.
Evelyn returned a long while later.
“They are all gone?” Adrian asked with a light smile.
“Yes. But they looked very unhappy when they left. They’ll probably find ways to target us.”
Evelyn looked helpless, her lips pressing into a small pout before she continued.
“Mr. Cross, you’re the boss, and I know I’m not in a position to lecture you. But when dealing with people like that, could you be a little more polite? Picking fights everywhere isn’t good for us.” Enjoying the story? Read on at novelping.com.
She understood his temper well enough by now.
That was why she dared to say it.
Adrian did not care.
“Those people are destined to become our enemies. If they are enemies, why be polite?”
Competitors were natural enemies.
Pressure and retaliation were part of competition.
This group had made a mistake from the beginning.
They had seen him as a talented scientist, not as the president of Umbrella Biopharmaceuticals.
Through the window, Adrian noticed that the sky outside had gone completely dark.
“It’s already this late. You should head home.”
When work became busy, time always disappeared quickly.
Evelyn shook her head and gave him a pitiful look.
“At this hour, the company shuttle is already gone. How am I supposed to get back?”
She had not expected getting those people out of the building to take so long.
“Then take my car,” Adrian said.
“I should go home and check on Maya anyway. It is Friday, so she should be back from school.”
He understood exactly what Evelyn meant.
She could not get home and wanted him to drive her.
Her apartment and his city residence were in the same community, after all.
She lived in one of the front towers, while the Cross family home was a detached villa deeper inside.
“Oh, I didn’t even realize it was Friday,” Evelyn said, half joking.
“Does that mean I get two days off?”
Adrian nodded.
“If you are tired, take two days. You have worked hard lately.”
“…”
“I was joking. This is the busiest time. I can’t rest now.”
Then she changed the subject.
“Speaking of which, I have not visited your place in a long time. Why don’t I come in for a while?”
“What are you planning?” Adrian teased.
“Are you interested in me? Trying to take advantage of me?”
Evelyn nearly choked.
Did he have to say it that directly?
Wasn’t that the classic sleazy-boss fantasy?
When there was work, the secretary handled it.
When there wasn’t, he slept with the secretary.
Yet Adrian never seemed to show even the slightest interest.
Her face still flushed.
“I just have not seen Maya in a long time. I want to visit her.”
Evelyn had been supported by Adrian’s father since childhood, and after graduation she had joined the company directly.
In that sense, aside from Adrian himself, she was one of the people Maya knew best.
At the same time, the Red Queen began moving according to Adrian’s instructions.
The scene that had taken place in the conference room had been edited and released across multiple platforms.
Especially the footage of the world’s top pharmaceutical companies offering increasingly outrageous prices.
On the internet, the Red Queen was practically a god.
Within moments, millions of people saw the video.
