Chapter 12

Reverse Compilation

"...What?" Yura's eyes widened. She set her fork down and jabbed a finger at me before saying, "That crazy demonic flame sword you use... you're telling me it doesn't even cost mana?!"

I nodded. "Right. I told you, didn't I? My ability isn't Ragnarok. It's what made Ragnarok. I have 'Compilation.' We just decided to wing it and go with Demonic Flames for my official registration as a Hunter, remember?"

Yura slammed her hands on the table, rattling the dishes.

If it wasn't for the fact that this restaurant was meant for Hunters, the table would have definitely snapped...

Smart choice, past me. Excellent foresight.

Yura pointed a finger at my face and said, "YOU NEVER TOLD ME THAT!"

"Huh? I thought I did? I told you that my awakened ability was Compilation, didn't I?"

"You did, but you said that you didn't know what it did! That the message said to experiment at your leisure!"

I blinked and placed my hand on my chin. "Ah, right. I DID say that... Well. I experimented and found that it doesn't use mana?"

Yura gave me a blank stare and said, "...Is this what Dad warned me about? Negging? No, gaslighting...?"

"Rude." I rolled my eyes. "As if I would do that to you. I just, uh. Literally forgot? I mean, I didn't get a proper tutorial, you know? Unlike most Hunters apparently. I also was a civilian until just a bit ago when we registered me?"

Yura stared at me again. Then she murmured, "Oh my god. That's right. You didn't even go into a Hunter Academy to train for the chance of awakening an ability. You were just some guy. Literally. Just... some guy. Some hot guy, yeah. But just a guy..."

"And now I'm your guy~"

Yura's cheeks turned red. "H-Hey! I'm being serious here!"

"Just lighting up the mood, Love." I smiled. "But yes. I was just a guy."

Well, that wasn't a complete lie.

I WAS just a guy.

Before that stupid thing I did. And before reincarnating here as an infant with my past life memories intact.

But it was still objectively true. I WAS just a guy.

...Can you tell I have trauma from polygraphs? Because I definitely can, haha.

Ha.

Yura stared at me. Then she covered her face in her hands and murmured, "I'm going to need to teach you everything about being a Hunter, aren't I?"

"Not EVERYTHING. But I definitely lack a Hunter's commonsense."

Also commonsense in general, but who needs it when you're uncommon~

Yura gave me a blank stare and slowly said, "That's 90% of what being a Hunter is."

"But the remaining 10% is what counts, Love." I smiled. "Hitting hard, killing monsters, and making sure no one else is hurt. Right?"

Yura kept staring at me for a long while. Then she murmured, "God. Why do I love you so much?"

"Because I'm devoted to loving you, of course~" I stole a kiss from her, along with a forkful of her spaghetti.

"Hey!" Yura blushed. "You can't just... That's my food!"

I laughed and said, "OUR food now~"

"You bastard...!" Yura huffed. "If you're playing like that... Th-Then...!" She took a bite of her spaghetti and leaned forward for a kiss, shoving it in my mouth.

Maybe she was expecting me to panic. Or maybe she was thinking I'd be grossed out.

I wasn't.

Instead, I just gave her a deep kiss, tongue and all, forcing the chewed up noodles down her throat.

Yura swallowed, shocked. Then she glared at me, her face red with more than just embarrassment at this point. "You...!"

I laughed. "Careful, Love." I licked my lips and teased. "At this rate, I might eat you up. Again~"

"Pervert." Yura huffed.

But I caught the way her eyes instinctively flicked lower for just a second.

Still, I let the moment pass on purpose.

...Mostly because the waiters in the back were giving me thumbs up and mouthing 'god among men.'

Yeah, let's not let Yura realize that.

She might literally murder them...

===

By the time we finished with our meal, it was late in the evening.

The news about Yura's failed debut Gate expedition had come out. But it was quickly forgotten by my audacious debut as an S-Ranked Hunter approved by the Legendary Hunter and the pictures of me being publicly affectionate with Yura.

...I had a feeling that was going to cause issues later. But I just put a pin on it for now.

Anyway.

We were back on Main Street, heading through downtown New Seoul.

As expected, people were whispering all about me and Yura as we passed. But they at least knew better than to actually approach.

Mostly because Yura was giving off extreme 'I will murder anyone who tests me right now' vibes.

...That definitely wasn't because I kept teasing her until she was practically on the verge of jumping my bones in the restaurant.

Definitely not.

And I definitely didn't do that because she was fun to tease.

But anyway...

I turned to Yura, who was wrapped around my right arm as if daring me to try and run. "So, we going to your house or mine?"

"We're going to my house this time." Yura huffed. "If we're going to spend the night together again, I want it on my bed."

"Oho? You want it on your bed, huh~"

Yura turned a bright red. "THAT'S NOT WHAT I-" She cut herself off when she noticed people staring and growled. "...I'm getting you back for that."

"Right. You want it on your back."

"You-! Gah, forget about it." Yura grumbled. "I can't get a word in against you. Stupid author and stupid word play..."

"I'm also good at fore-"

"Finish that and I WILL crush your balls."

"Mm~ Tempting, tempting. But I'm not into CBT, so I'll be quiet."

Yura blinked. "CBT- Oh my GOD. Stop. Just shut up. Seriously." She fanned her face with her right hand, visibly overheating. "You're so fucking shameless."

"So were you when-"

"NEOL."

"Fine, fine~" I chuckled.

Yura huffed and slapped my arm.

After that, we walked along Main Street for a while, enjoying the quiet evening.

Because it was Friday- No, Saturday now. Friday was when I met Yura, and a full day had passed.

Since it was Saturday evening, there weren't too many people out and about. Most were already holed up in bars or clubs at this time, or they were home.

The only ones out at this time were the completely overstressed office workers who were bar hopping after being banned from the tab and who still needed to decompress before another souleroding day.

Relatable since I'd done that in my past life.

Anyway, the only ones out at this time were those people, delinquents, or Hunters returning from Gate expeditions.

Ah, right.

I should explain Gate expeditions...
