The question lingered in the room as Ji-won slowly lowered her gaze.

Perhaps she had misunderstood the purpose of her second chance.

Maybe she wasn’t brought here to change what had happened to the original heroine.Full novel: Rewriting Fate: A Second Chance — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Maybe she wasn’t even supposed to change the storyline…

Maybe…

She was supposed to break it.

Her eyes returned to the final page.

The words staring back at her suddenly felt less like a prediction and more like a challenge.

Quietly, Ji-won closed the book.

Whoever had written this ending had made one mistake.

They had given her another chance to fight it.

“A second chance doesn’t always serve as a chance to change one’s fate, but a chance to build it into something better.”

She finally understood.

This ending—her ending—could only change if she changed the story that led to it.

And the first step was to find out more about the original novel, Fate.

{System activated.}

{Welcome back, Kang Ji-won.

You summoned me?}

“Yes, I did.”

{Okay.

Before I ask what you need me for, I have to tell you that you didn’t fulfill your mission.}

Kang Ji-won’s eyes flew open.

Mission?

Oh gosh!

Does that mean I’ll be punished?

Punished when I’m about to start changing fate?

Will I lose my Starter Pack?

{No, you won’t.

I’ve decided to let it go because, at the very least, you survived 30 seconds of the mission.

Your reward will be cut in half.}

{Reward for incomplete mission: 100,000 yuan.}

Kang Ji-won’s mouth fell open.

100,000 yuan?

For just 30 seconds?

{Well, what do you know?

Now that you’ve received your mission reward, what do you need me for?}

Kang Ji-won’s eyes shifted from the book in her hands to the system.

“What exactly happened in the original Fate novel?”

{For that question, my answer is quite limited.

All I can say is that she was a quiet, cowardly girl from a poor family who fell in love with Han Yufan—I suppose you’ve met him.

In the ending, she’s killed by someone she trusted most.}

The person she trusted most?

{That’s all for now.

Bye.}

Kang Ji-won sighed and placed the book back on the cabinet.

This system isn’t really helpful.

A few noises came from outside her room.

“Mom?”

Lee Jun-ho stood frozen in place for about a few minutes.

Is she really a lunatic?

Silently, he shook his head to pulled out of his thoughts.

He picked his phone from his back pocket and dialed a number.

From a ring, the person picked up.

” G, are you guys done?”

” Yes.

Did you—”

” Meet me at FengCheng Warehouse.

5 minutes.”

He ends the call.

A few minutes later, Kim Tae-hyun and the others walked into the warehouse.

“Come on, Boss. Why do you always like interrupting people? You called me and I wanted to ask—”

Kim Tae-hyun’s complaint died the moment his eyes landed on the bodies on the floor.

His expression immediately turned serious.

“Boss?”

Lee Jun-ho’s eyebrows furrowed as he glanced at the bodies, then back at his team.

“When I arrived, I heard the two of them discussing the goods. The moment they realized I was there, they chose to end their own lives rather than reveal anything.”

He sighed.

“It seems they were prepared for this.”

“It has to be some foreign mafia gang. The local gangs here wouldn’t sacrifice their lives for just some information,” Baek Min-jae said as he walked around the room, searching for any clues.

“So what do we do with them, Boss?” Ryu Do-hyun asked, pointing at the bodies.

“We’ll have to move them from here. We can’t have people finding them in this warehouse and causing unnecessary chaos,” Lee Jun-ho replied.

“And the president?” Seo Ji-han asked, clearly worried.

Lee Jun-ho shrugged.

“Leave him to me.”

They breathed a sigh of relief.

No one questioned his answer.

Ever since he became the leader of the team, their reputation in the army had continued to rise.

Lee Jun-ho pointed at Park Do-yoon and Baek Min-jae.

“You two, take care of them.”

They both nodded and got to work.

The others left.

Kim Tae-hyun raised an eyebrow.

“Boss? Any problem?”

Lee Jun-ho nodded, his expression becoming more serious.

“A girl walked in and saw what happened earlier. I need you to investigate her and give me her entire profile.”

Kim Tae-hyun swallowed.

Since when does Boss investigate someone’s entire life?

She must have really annoyed him.

But who would dare try to annoy this stone-faced guy?

As Shen Huiling stepped into her house, she was surprised by the scene in front of her.

Her mother was crying heavily on the sofa, while her father angrily argued with the rest of the people in the room.

Her aunts and uncles.

“What do you mean by that, Shen Zheng?!”

The man, Shen Zheng, was her second uncle.

“I’m sure you understand what I meant—and what we all meant. This property belongs to our late father, and since it’s going to be demolished soon, we must have a share of the compensation money.”

Shen Huiling was enraged when she heard this.

The house they lived in had originally belonged to her grandfather.

Before he died, however, he had given each of her father’s siblings 300,000 yuan as a gift, while he gave the house to her father.

At the time, 300,000 yuan could have done a lot for them.

Now that the government wanted to demolish the building, they had promised to pay 600,000 yuan in compensation.

As soon as her uncles and aunts heard about it, they all rushed over, claiming that the house belonged to all of them and that they were entitled to a share of the money.

“Since when does this house belong to you?” Shen Huiling yelled as she walked over to stand beside her father.

Her eldest aunt turned to her with a disgusted look.

“And who are you to speak when the elders are talking? Get out of here!”

Shen Huiling scoffed.

Just as she was about to retort, a warm hand pulled her back.

It was her mother.

“Stay away from this, Shen Huiling. Let’s leave this to your father.”

Shen Huiling’s face fell.

“Mother—”

Her mother gave her a resigned look before pulling her down to sit on the sofa.

The argument continued.

“You must give us part of the compensation, or else we’ll—we’ll report it to the police.”

Shen Huiling’s jaw dropped.

What nonsense is this?

It was completely unfair.

But what could she do?

She thought for a moment.

Then a name came to mind.

Kang Ji-won.

What do you think would happen next?
