“Which candidate should I choose to become a knight for?”
As she walked, Theresia mentally went through the list of candidates’ knights.
Felt’s knight is Reinhard.
The pairing of these two is a twist of fate; Reinhard identified her as a royal selection candidate the moment he saw her.
Sometimes, destiny is just that unreasonable.
She had ruled out this option from the very beginning.
She didn’t want to be in the same camp as Reinhard, being stared at by him every day with that “you look just like my grandmother” gaze.
After all, in a certain sense, Reinhard was indeed her cheap grandson.
Next up is…
the Priscilla camp.
Priscilla’s knight is Al.
That one-armed swordsman wearing a helmet is also an otherworlder, but he is extremely loyal to Priscilla.
Only Al can put up with Priscilla’s arrogant princess temper.
She wasn’t considering this camp either; Priscilla’s way of doing things didn’t suit her at all.
Not an option.
And Anastasia’s knight is Julius, the finest knight of the Knight Order.
Plus, the Anastasia camp already has the Iron Fang mercenary group; adding her wouldn’t make a difference.
“Mimi would definitely welcome me with open arms and legs, but I can’t join someone else’s camp just to pet a cat, even though that reason is quite tempting…”
Theresia thought to herself, sunlight filtering through the leaves of the roadside trees, casting dappled light and shadows on her, her long red hair swaying gently on her shoulders with each step.
What remained was the Crusch camp.
Crusch’s knight is Felix, a cute boy who, despite looking soft and fluffy, is incredibly reliable in critical moments.
Crusch herself is one of the most formidable royal selection candidates, with a stable power base and no shortage of manpower, including the butler, the Sword Demon Wilhelm…
She didn’t want to face that old man every day, still immersed in the pain of losing his wife, while she walked around in front of him with the face of his late wife.
After all, Wilhelm had even abandoned his family for the sake of revenge.
His obsession was so deep that he could kill the White Whale; who knows what might happen if he saw a young girl who looked exactly like his late wife when she was young…
Alright, that was the real reason.
“All four candidates already have knights. At the moment, only Emilia is left without one.” This chapter is updated first at g.com.
Theresia stroked her smooth, delicate chin, thinking to herself.
Although Natsuki Subaru would become Emilia’s knight later on.
But at this point in time, Natsuki Subaru was likely still recuperating on some bed in the Roswaal mansion, or being brutally awakened by Rem in the morning.
The formal knight contract between Natsuki Subaru and Emilia would have to wait quite a while; it wouldn’t be officially established until after the Sanctuary arc.
In other words, the knight position in the Emilia camp was currently vacant, waiting for someone, just missing someone who wasn’t afraid of death to sign up.
“It seems I have no choice.” Theresia thought to herself, her pace slowing down unconsciously.
“But, do I really want to choose the Emilia camp?”
The Emilia camp, or “hell-mode start” for short.
Targeted by the Witch Cult’s Sin Archbishop, ostracized by other candidates, and viewed with strange eyes by everyone in the royal capital.
All because of that face Emilia had, which looked exactly like the Witch of Envy.
Natsuki Subaru chose this path, and ended up dying time and time again, suffering mental breakdowns several times, nearly destroying himself completely.
But then again, with Theresia’s current max-level Sword Saint strength, did she need to be afraid of that?
Not in the slightest.
Whatever Witch Cult Sin Archbishop it might be.
Once she figured out the secret of their Authorities, it would just be a matter of one sword strike each.
“But the problem is, I didn’t transmigrate to this other world to do these troublesome things.”
Theresia continued to think in her heart.
Although there was a system quest hanging on her panel, deep down she still wanted to be carefree and relaxed.
After all, she had been exhausted enough in her past life; in this life, she just wanted to be a max-level salted fish, lying on the beach of another world, soaking up the sun.
She wanted the rewards from the system’s main quest too; a random skill plus one meant she could acquire the ability of an anime female character.
If she happened to draw some perverted skill, it would be a huge profit.
“So, the main quest still has to be done.” Theresia thoughtfully kicked a pebble at her feet, and it clattered into the bushes by the roadside.
“It’s just a technical challenge to figure out how to do it more easily.”
And choosing the Emilia camp to become a knight involved too many troubles.
Because the teammates were all unreliable.
Roswaal was a sly old fox, scheming from beginning to end, contributing in very few situations, but omnipresent when it came to causing trouble.
He didn’t contribute much when fighting the Witch Cult, and even secretly sent assassins to test Natsuki Subaru, turning the whole mansion upside down.
If such a person were in another camp, he would have been kicked out long ago.
But the Emilia camp couldn’t do without him, because the mansion was his, and the money was his too.
And then there was Puck, the god of civil war, meek externally but aggressive internally.
He had all sorts of restrictions when fighting enemies, unable to use his full power, but when it came to fighting Natsuki Subaru, he would strike hard without mercy.
He also clocked out on time every day, from nine to five, disappearing into a wisp of light when time was up, acting just like a civil servant.
He claimed to be Emilia’s protector, but whenever he was truly needed, he was either sleeping or slacking off.
Then there was the shut-in, the overage loli Beatrice, who had been hiding in the Forbidden Library for four hundred years.
Her combat power was decent, but she wouldn’t leave easily.
She didn’t have any bad intentions; she was just socially anxious and a tsundere.
Expecting her to take the initiative to help was harder than reaching the sky.
Ram had Stockholm Syndrome; she knew exactly what kind of mess Roswaal had caused, yet she was still devoted to him.
After her horn was broken, her magic power dropped significantly, and she didn’t have much combat strength herself, but her tongue was never forgiving; she was more venomous than anyone when roasting Natsuki Subaru.
She was truly pitiful, but relying on her to fight was unrealistic.
Rem was actually somewhat useful; when she got serious, her morning star could smash people into pulp.
Unfortunately, she was lovesick, with Natsuki Subaru in every other sentence.
Natsuki Subaru, an otherworlder with Return by Death, was also a master at courting death, diving into danger wherever he found it.
Every time he tried to trade his life for a perfect solution, the result was dying over and over again every day.
It was truly tragic, so tragic that even the Grim Reaper would want to issue him a VIP annual pass…
As for Emilia herself, that face of hers, identical to the Witch of Envy, was a living target.
Wherever she went, she could attract the Witch Cult; she was simply a mobile hate magnet, more effective than a taunt skill in an online game.
“No matter how you look at it, the Emilia camp is not a good choice.”
Theresia stopped in her tracks and looked up at the azure sky above.
Sunlight fell on her fair face, and as the breeze blew, a few strands of red hair swayed gently.
