Amidst the luminous expanse of a grand hall, an orchestra of sobs and tears resonated, a mournful symphony conducted by the elegantly clad figures draped in black. The heart of the hall bore witness to a captivating portrait of a charismatic man, his countenance illuminated by an infectious smile. Encircling this visage were his kin, their eyes ablaze with cascading tears, their collective grief a sombre backdrop.
Clustered among the sorrowful crowd, friends, acquaintances, and relatives shared in the burden of bereavement, offering silent solace to the grieving family. Amidst this assembly, a resplendent woman, possessing an ethereal allure, reclined near the portrait, her delicate features obscured by tears. By the hall's neglected periphery, a six-year-old boy huddled against the wall, his form hunched, his legs drawn close, and his cherubic countenance marred by the indelible stain of tears.
Beneath empathetic gazes, the boy remained untouched, his mournful isolation a testament to his aversion to consolation. A collective understanding held the attendees at bay, allowing the boy his time to mourn, to process the profound shift that had rattled his world. Yet, unbeknownst to the observing crowd, the boy's tears had ceased, and his once pained expression now transmuted into an unsettling neutrality, a disquieting transformation for one so young.
'Am I back?' The boy questioned. His demeanour didn't match his previous one. Without anybody's attention, he slowly raised his head, gazing at the scene in front of him. His eyes furrowed at the scene flashing before his eyes.
'Um… my memories are still fuzzy,' the boy thought as he made sense of the situation in front of him. His dark eyes scanned everything, settling on the ones that needed the most attention.
'My mother… huh,' he thought as he gazed at the devastated woman weakly lying against the table. His eyes moved over her body—her long brown hair and hazelnut eyes, her beautiful face even when tired, and a body that tempted the desire of all. Her cascading chestnut locks and hazel irises beseeched attention, her beauty defiant even in this agonising moment. A profound realisation welled within the boy as he recognised her latent potential.
'She will be useful,' the boy remarked as his gaze turned towards the two twin girls of age four kneeling on the ground, tears flowing from their eyes. One had black hair and brown eyes, and the other had brown hair and black eyes, both clutching each other as they cried and cried. He assessed with cold calculation. Clad in black, the girls clung to each other, their shared grief a testament to their bond.
'My sisters hid themselves well in the past. I need to keep them close,' he mused, an intricate web of interconnectedness unravelling before his perceptive faculties. As memories of his former self coursed through his being, he navigated the tumultuous currents of his past, embracing the newfound consciousness that had emerged from within.
'So… my father just died?' he acknowledged with detached clarity, his countenance unfettered by sorrow.
'There are a lot of useful people here,' the boy thought as he scanned the surroundings for anyone more useful. Observing the attendees with a calculating gaze, he discerned the strategic potential embodied by this gathering. The elderly, his maternal and paternal grandparents, their authoritative stance a testament to their desire to maintain order amid chaos, caught his attention.
'It's funny how these things in the past affected me.' Musing to himself, he slowly raised his head as he stood up. Right now, it was time to begin his first play. The boy's legs and hands trembled, tears streaming down his face, his pupils quivering, a snort escaping his nose, and his lips dry as he clumsily started to walk toward his two little sisters.
Unsteady, he advanced towards his two younger sisters, the very embodiment of innocence amidst turmoil. His sisters lay trembling on the ground. Seeing him move, many gazes in the hall focused on him, some calling out to him.
"Young master, please drink some water," a butler with red eyes, swollen from crying, came up to the boy, trying to feed him some water. But the boy, like a broken doll, paid no heed as he walked toward his sisters, looking like a drone without any will. His shoulders slumped as he walked with extreme difficulty, tears welling up in the eyes of those watching, for such a sight didn't match a child.
His once cute face was now completely ruined as he reached the girls, who had yet to notice his presence. The boy's grandparents looked at their grandchild with pained eyes as he reached his little sisters, kneeling to their level before pulling them into a huge hug, before they could react.
The two girls, stunned, tried to push away anyone who tried to console them, but the boy, in pain, held the two girls together, pressing their heads to his chest.
"D-Don't worry, I-I am h-here," the child said with a broken voice, hoarse and strained from his cries. Tears rained down his face, falling onto his sisters as they too cried, the two little girls holding onto their brother's back as their tears fell without end. The twins' reaction intensified the boy's tears as he hugged them tighter, seemingly unwilling to let go.
The three of them in the middle vented their feelings to each other, creating a scene that tugged at the heartstrings of everyone. It didn't take long for their mother to join the embrace too, hugging her children together to let her know that neither she nor they were alone, to remind her that everything wasn't lost—she still had her family to look after.
Her tears joined her children's, but unbeknownst to all, the boy who initiated the hug still had his tears, and his expression still portrayed his pain. However, his inner thoughts were far from his outer appearance.
'The first step has begun. The three of them will be very useful.'
The man's funeral proceeded without any issues. The kids fell asleep while crying, the little boy lying on the back seat of the limousine, his eyes closed, and the edges of his eyes red. On both sides lay his little sisters, clutching onto his arm as they slept.
And so, within the cocoon of familial embrace, a new narrative began to unfurl—a tale of unity amidst adversity, of potential recognised, and of a young boy's transformation into an agent of destiny. Amidst the symphony of grief, a solo emerged, composed of resilience, subtle manipulation, and the eternal quest for power that had now awakened within the heart of a child, he was back.
