Lex, along with his entourage, was soon taken to the closed-off hospital, where every possible check was performed on him, and the final result was that he was completely okay. Aside from some lack of sleep, he was fine overall.
'They still haven't reached the level of soul-scraping,' Lex mused to himself.
Musing on his thoughts, Lex, along with his family, once again embarked on the journey back home, his mother and his sister holding him tight. Within this time of sadness, he should get much closer to them than before. The good thing here was that the hospital was unable to find anything wrong with him.
While his body was hurting, the pain came from his soul, and any sort of injury of that kind is impossible to detect by current technology, at least until the first awakening takes place. The disconnection between his body and soul is slowly eroding him, and one day it will end him. That day is five years from now.
As Lex kept musing on his thoughts, he and his family soon reached the estate. The maids moved as they opened the door to the limo; Lex, along with his family, disembarked, with Lex and his sisters holding tightly to their mother.
Just as they were entering, a maid came forth and bowed, her voice respectful as she spoke.
"Miss, you have a visitor."
"A visitor?" Serena asked back, clearly confused, to which the maid spoke.
"It's Miss. Anastasia."
Hearing the maid's voice, a surprised expression filled Serena's face while a contemplative scene took place inside Lex. He too kept a surprised expression outward, making sure to bring a trace of happiness to his expression. Thus, soon the family moved towards the visitor room where they came upon a beautiful woman holding a stunningly cute girl in her embrace.
Amidst the sunlight falling from the window, there stood a woman of ethereal beauty. Her auburn hair cascaded like molten copper, glinting with hints of gold in the dappled sunlight, as if it held secrets whispered by the russet leaves of the nearby birch trees. Her light brown eyes, like the polished amber of ancient forests, held a depth that hinted at wisdom beyond her years, her Russian features quite prominent on her face.
Her form was a delicate masterpiece, lithe and graceful. Her stature was not imposing but rather an enchanting blend of strength and elegance. The soft contours of her face framed a smile that radiated warmth, a testament to the kindness that resided within. Her gaze was tender, and her presence exuded a quiet confidence that drew people in like moths to a flame.
In her arms, she cradled a cherubic eight-year-old girl, a mirror image of her mother's auburn locks. The child's hair gleamed like spun silk in the morning light, an effervescent halo of gold around her head. Her eyes, like molten pools of liquid gold, sparkled with an innocence untouched by the world's complexities. A button nose and dimpled cheeks framed a grin that could melt the iciest of hearts.
Together, they created a scene of breathtaking beauty—the radiant mother and her golden-haired daughter, their bond palpable in the way the child nestled against her mother's chest.
"Serena, how are you holding up?" Anastasia asked, her light Russian dialect coming into play as she walked up to her good friend. She placed her child, Irina, on the ground, and the little girl of bundle happiness ran up to Lex as she shook his hands, her radiant smile beautiful as Anastasia hugged Serena for comfort.
While all such happened, Lex looked at the little girl beaming with a smile, an innocence, with an inward frown.
'To think that the future Ice Goddess had such an innocent smile…' he mused internally as he lightly responded to the girl's enthusiasm, playing the role of a friend trying to be enthusiastic while still reeling from sadness. 'These two will be very useful to me,' Lex thought as he gazed from the little girl to the mother. He surely desired to get both of them, knowing their future and worth were enough for him. In deeper detail, it was just the desire to possess these two.
"I'm holding fine..." Serena spoke to Anastasia. The two of them left their hugs as Anastasia turned to look at Lex and his sisters, her eyes turning soft and warm as she patted their heads.
"They are strong kids..." Anastasia whispered to Serena, who could only nod her head slightly, her mood not being perfect enough. Anastasia caught who moved forth to take the little girl into her arms.
"I just came, hence I will head to freshen up," Serena nodded at Anastasia's tactical words. While the little girl Irina in her arms kept making noise, her behaviour begged to play with Lex, to which Anastasia could only smile wryly. She was led by one of the maids towards the room to freshen up. Seeing this, Serena took the arms of her kids as she led them to her room.
Soon, entering, the family entered the room with Sandra outside, guarding like the perfect guardian, while inside Serena took to the centre of the bed, holding her children close to her. Lex was in the middle, and the two sisters took his side. All three of them were deeply hugged by Serena as she murmured, "Don't worry, I will be with you all till the end, I am not going anywhere…"
As she muttered so, she hugged them tighter, and she started to pat their backs, her warm words and love soon melting the cover of the twins as they hugged Serena back, their bright eyes turning misty as small words left their mouths.
"I miss father," Lily muttered, to which Serena calmly patted Lily's head. Serena's smile turned as she muttered, "Don't we all…"
While such an emotional scene took place, Lex looked at all this with a sad smile, but on the inside, his calculating eyes latched onto the darkness brewing inside his mother, one settling in for now, but it's not gone. His mother, being the woman she is, will keep it in control and will chain it down to never look back at it. Serena will learn to live with it.
But Lex doesn't want that. He wants to take control of this madness, to use it to his advantage, to have absolute control over his mother. The steps for that will have to begin after finally getting things right with his family.
'For now, this is enough...' As he thought so, he hugged his mother back with his sisters, the family of four staying together as they once again grieved the loss of a man they all loved. Soon, under the heavy weight of power, both the twins fell asleep once again, a few tearful moments enough to get their minds weak enough to embrace sleep once again.
To the normal kids of their age, death and such would only be a slight scar in their minds, one that should soon be erased by the happy embrace of time. But Lex knows better about the pain they would bear, and once again, it would be to his benefit.
While the twins shut down, only Lex remained with his mother, the twins now lying on the bed, snuggling to Serena while Lex lay in her embrace, a calming silence falling between the two of them, which was soon broken by the voice of Serena.
"I'm sorry, son, it's all your mother's fault…" Serena suddenly said. Lex's eyes soon flashed at those words as she responded with a strained voice, bearing innocence.
"What do you mean, mother?"
His words lay in the room as several emotions seemed to pass through Serena's face—guilt, anger, and self-hate being the most prominent as she bit her lips.
"Your mother is just sad that she wasn't there with you in that car…" As she muttered so, Serena hugged Lex tighter, to which small pools of tears started to gather around Lex's eyes as he muttered in a broken voice, "Sniff… mother…"
As he said so, he hugged his mother tight, and she too did the same. Light tears gathered around her eyes, the guilt in her growing higher, something which Lex caught and something that he was aiming for.
You see, his father died in a car accident, the car veering off the road and hitting a tree as he passed away. Lex was in the car when the accident took place, and he had to witness his father's life draining away.
'Perhaps that's one of the reasons I became such a scumbag,' Lex mused to himself as he kept hugging his mother. He discreetly kept an eye on her, knowing that her extreme reactions were because she was indirectly responsible for his father's death. In a way, his mother killed his father, and Serena knew that very well.
'Well, this will be a fun start,' Lex thought as he licked his lips.
