Chapter 19 - 18: Willing to Hit, Willing to Be Hit

Rural Farming: My Buildings Can Be Upgraded

"Boss Wang, let’s be frank. I haven’t found a way to transplant and grow these grapes successfully yet. If you want to plant them, I can sell you the vines, but let’s forget about a partnership."

Wang Peng asked in surprise, "You’re willing to sell the grapevines?"

"Like I said, the grapes won’t survive being transplanted right now. If you’re willing to buy them anyway, then I’m certainly willing to sell. It’s just that the price will be very, very high." Lin Feng gave Boss Wang a meaningful look.

’If this guy is greedy enough to actually buy the vines, he’ll only have his own greed to blame.’

’Anyway, I just harvested the grapes. Even if I prune some of the vines, they’ll recover quickly. As long as it’s not a large-scale destruction, it won’t damage the grape tree.’

"How much?"

Wang Peng grew excited. ’I thought I’d have to cough up a lot of cash to get a partnership, but I never expected he’d just sell the vines directly.’

’I don’t know if this guy is an idiot or just has a screw loose. Who just sells vines like these? I really can’t figure Lin Feng out.’

"Five hundred thousand per vine."

"How much? Five hundred thousand!" Uncle Dazhuang, who was standing nearby, was stunned.

Da Linzi asked in astonishment, "What kind of grape sells for five hundred thousand a vine?!"

Wang Peng, however, was very calm. "I can raise the price to one million per vine. But I have one condition."

Everyone nearby was dumbfounded when they heard this. Someone was actively raising the price? And for a grapevine, at one million per vine?

Lin Feng was taken aback for a moment. ’I can’t believe he’s raising the price. I just threw out five hundred thousand; I have no idea how new grape varieties are actually traded.’

"What’s the condition?"

"We need to sign a formal contract. For two years after I buy the vines, you cannot sell them to anyone else."

"Well, even if I promise not to sell them, I can’t stop people from stealing them."

"I’ll help you with that. I’ll have this entire area fenced in for you and install security cameras."

"If you can solve the theft problem, then I have no issue. I guarantee I won’t sell them to anyone else."

Hearing Lin Feng agree so readily, Wang Peng struggled to hold back a laugh. ’This guy really doesn’t know anything.’

’Once I get these grapes growing, the variety will be mine. I could collect three million in licensing fees from a single province, not to mention the priceless seedlings.’

The few people standing by were already dumbfounded. The three thugs were now completely bewildered; the grapes were about to be bought by someone else.

’But then again, this doesn’t really have anything to do with us. We weren’t planning on buying them anyway. This is a good chance to see where the grapes are.’

Soon, the workers who heard the news all rushed over, wanting to see what kind of grape cost one million a vine.

It was only then that they learned Lin Feng had a type of grape that sold for 888 yuan a bunch in Wuyuan County Town.

"Dazhuang, maybe you should try to talk him out of it. He can’t sell those vines! Once he sells them, other people will be able to grow them."

"Yeah, a million seems like a lot, but that grape tree can produce a constant supply of grapes. At 888 a bunch, it’s a real Treasure Basin!"

"Alright, everyone, stop talking nonsense. Xiaofeng must have his reasons."

Just then, Lin Feng was pulled aside by his father. "Is it really impossible to transplant those grapes?"

"Dad, don’t worry. They absolutely won’t survive a transplant. If they could, I’d have more than just one acre of them by now."

"What if they hire experts and figure it out?" Lin Dongyue was still a little worried.

"Dad, the grape tree is right here. Even if we guard it with our lives, someone will eventually find a way to get a piece of it. We can’t stop them forever."

"Instead of letting them try and fail to grow it, we might as well make some quick cash while nobody knows the truth. I still need a lot of money for construction here."

"Besides, once word gets out about the price of the vines, I doubt anyone else will come knocking."

Lin Dongyue was silent for a moment before saying, "Alright, then. You decide."

After explaining things to his father, Lin Feng led Wang Peng toward the grape tree.

"This is the Jade Grape Tree. I’ve already picked the grapes, but when they grow back, I can take some pictures for you."

Wang Peng said nonchalantly, "That’s fine. We’ll just write it into the contract."

He stared at the entire area where the grape tree grew and quickly noticed how extraordinary it was. The vines were much thicker than those of a normal grape tree, and its leaves hadn’t even started to yellow and wither in the current temperature.

Moreover, it looked like the tree was already starting to bear fruit again, which was highly unusual.

’As for not surviving a transplant... looking at this one main vine with all these secondary vines branching off, if you can’t get *that* to transplant, you must be a complete moron!’

’If it really couldn’t be transplanted, how could it have grown so many secondary vines?’

He thought to himself, ’This guy just got lucky finding such a magical grape plant. His brain isn’t all there, though. It’s my destiny to get rich off this.’

"So, you’ve seen the plant. What do you think? Do you want to buy?"

"Buy? Of course, I’ll buy. I’ll have someone prepare the contract right now."

Wang Peng was clearly afraid that any delay could bring complications. If a major fruit tycoon heard the news, he’d be cut out of the deal.

He not only made a call to have the contract prepared but also arranged for people to come over to fence in Lin Feng’s vineyard and install security cameras.

He even helped solve Lin Feng’s electricity problem.

’I never expected that selling the vines would solve so many of my problems.’

’I was worried about animals destroying the vineyard, but now with this new wall, I can upgrade it to a proper village fence later. It will even be able to keep out birds and insects.’

Wang Peng bought three grapevines and, while he was at it, also purchased twenty bunches of grapes from Lin Feng. He planned to have the grapes tested as soon as he got back.

The taste and effects of the grapes had astonished him, convincing him that his gamble had paid off. This time, he was going to make a killing.

Both men were very satisfied. As soon as the three million arrived in his account, Lin Feng assigned more construction projects to Uncle Dazhuang.

Uncle Dazhuang was thrilled to get the work. To complete Lin Feng’s projects, he hired many more workers.

The story of the one-million-yuan grapevine quickly spread throughout Mountain Ridge Town. Everyone now knew that the "foolish kid" they had been talking about was growing 888-yuan-a-bunch grapes in the mountains.

Because Lin Feng had installed a gate at the village entrance, anyone who wanted to come and have a look was stopped outside.

The news even started to spread within Wuyuan County Town.

After hearing the news, many people went to Wanfu Square looking for the sky-high-priced grapes. Unfortunately for them, after taking two pre-orders and receiving the three million, Lin Feng was no longer short on cash and stopped setting up his stall to sell them.

Over the next week, while the outside world was in an uproar over the exorbitantly priced grapes, Lin Feng focused on constructing various buildings in Lin Xian Village.

Standing on the mountain behind Lin Xian Village, he looked at the cleared platform where six Arrow Towers were arranged in a hexagon.

’They’re finally built!’

He climbed one of the Arrow Towers and used the astronomical telescope on top to observe the surrounding mountains.

’You know, even if it’s not for stargazing at night, it’s also a great choice for viewing the surrounding mountain scenery.’

Lin Feng was certain that if he publicized this place, it would definitely attract a lot of people and become a viral tourist destination.

As he came down from the mountain, he heard Uncle Dazhuang calling him.

"Xiaofeng, the Arrow Towers over there are all finished, and we’ve prepared the site for you too."

"I’ll go take a look then."

’This kid has really made something of himself,’ Lin Dazhuang thought with some doubt. ’But this place is so remote. Will people really come all the way out here to visit?’

Lin Feng didn’t know what others were worried about. In any case, after he sold the ridiculously expensive grapevines, no one in town called him a fool anymore. They all said he was capable. That’s just how reality is.

’Once you’re truly capable and have achieved something, you’ll find that you’re suddenly surrounded by good people.’

Placing a telescope inside each Arrow Tower, Lin Feng converted all of them into village buildings.

When he converted the wall around the vineyard into a village fence, he added an infrared night vision device as a material, and a special attribute appeared.

[Fence (Level 1): Can only repel small birds, animals, and common pests. Almost ineffective against large animals or deliberate human destruction. Adds a wilderness early-warning function.]

’This has me considering other industrial products with special effects. It seems that adding them as materials can generate very unique attributes.’

’Of course, the item has to be compatible with the building. I experimented with the Arrow Towers; if the items don’t match, the resulting attribute bonus is completely wasted.’

’So, I’ve decided that after the first batch of Houses is built, I’ll add an air conditioner to each one. The attributes of those two should be a perfect match.’

’Alright, now I need to figure out a way to publicize this place.’
