I managed to reach out to Coach a few days later, and slowly summer settled into a rhythm. With extra practice, homework, spending time with friends, and with family it was surprisingly busy despite being a holiday. Of course, now I also had a sort of boyfriend I had to spend time with.
Besides that I also had to devote time to being a potato. Really, if school breaks for summer, and you spend no time being absolutely useless, then you have failed as human being.
I was enjoying myself a lot.
I did run into one issue.
It turns out that teenagers are not wealthy, or more specifically; Noburo isn't secretly rich. It's not that I agreed to go out with him because I hoped he has money, but more so that renting a room at a love hotel costs money. I was broke, and I was doing my best to make sure he was broke too apparently.
Asking my parents for money to rent a room so I could sleep with my boyfriend was of course not an option.
Instead we had to get creative.
Someone's family is out for the day? Sex.
This bathroom looks suitably deserted, doesn't it? Sex.
One of us has practice at school over the summer? Sex.
Don't judge us for that last one. It's a large school and it's rather empty over the summer.
I sort of gave up on having him being more forward since with every chance given I tended to drag him off for some kinky fun. It's hard to actually show initiative if you aren't given the chance to. I could of course slow down and see if he would take action if I didn't, but I didn't want to do that.
Upside is he might show some ambition.
Downside is that if he wasn't I wouldn't get laid.
I cared more about having sex than him being more forward, so it got put in a box and ignored.
It was an interesting experience to actually have an active sex life. It wasn't that I had suddenly turned into an insatiable lust demon, but if the choice was between not having sex and having sex then I might as well I figured.
I wasn't always in the mood for sex, but I was also rarely in the mood to not have sex. It somehow made sense to me. Quite a few times it wasn't so much to satisfy my cravings, and more because we might as well, and once we got started I usually quickly got in the right mood. There wasn't a certainty when we would next have a chance, so we might as well do it now.
Perhaps we were just being horny teenagers, but in my defense; it was a very enjoyable way to spend time.
We didn't spend all our time doing the horizontal tango of course. And yes, it had to be horizontal because he was too tall for us to do it standing up, and I was too heavy for him to lift up the entire time.
We found time to go out on dates every now and then, something that was quite affordable now that the pressure of love hotels had disappeared. I had grown to really like dates, it was just nice to be taken out somewhere.
We also spent leisure time together at either his place or mine watching mindless TV while snuggled up. Sure, it was usually preceded by sex, but whenever I came over to his place or he came over to mine we usually spent most of the day together, and in total we spent far more time clothed than naked.
It was admittedly rather nice to have a boyfriend, not just for the sex. I liked having him around, I liked spending time with him.
Of course summer doesn't last forever.
I'd like to file a petition, but I think even if I lent Jun's optimism I'd still put my chances for success at nil.
Returning to school after a long vacation is a strange experience. It isn't the part about waking up early that bothers me, for the latter half of the break I've consistently been up before eight, except on Saturdays and Sundays where I stay in bed till nine some days.
It's the abrupt loss of free time that gets to me. Going from having the freedom to structure your own days as you wish without having to consult anyone is liberating, and the moment school returns suddenly it insists on monopolizing so much of your time without your consent. Its restrictions are something I find great discomfort in. During the entrance ceremony the principal talked about instilling a desire for learning, yet all high school has managed to teach me is how much I despise this.
Sure, I could have skipped high school, except for someone in my position that isn't practically speaking an option, for a multitude of reasons. Mostly because of badminton because I do hope it works out, but even if that falls through high school will afford me better options than if I skipped it.
So I grit my teeth and bear it, finding comfort in reminding myself just how many days I've already been through, to just be patient for a little while longer. It doesn't help much admittedly.
Slowly I grow used to the rhythm of school again, albeit with great reluctance, though my time was now far more limited, and days turned to weeks, and the weeks kept rolling on by.

With a groan of relief history class ended. If I couldn't name learning katakana as my least favorite part of school I'd name history. It was just so difficult for me to take old Japanese warlords seriously ever since I learned how deranged their childhood names often were. Seriously, the unifier of Japan Hideyoshi named his son 'Abandoned Shit', though he only lived until the age of two. Rest in peace, Abandoned Shit.
You'd think all the violence and death would make up for it, but apparently not. Perhaps I should blame my teacher instead? He's an older man seemingly on a mission to be as boring as possible with a voice who could lull even an insomniac to sleep.
Sadly I can't hate math since that teacher is fun and engaging. Whatever they are paying her it isn't enough.
"Jun, please tell me we're about to graduate."
He doesn't respond and I look over. He is still sitting at his desk, blankly looking forward, and clearly on a spiritual journey. I toss my eraser and hit him in the head which wakes him up.
"Lunch time," I helpfully explain as he gives me a dazed look.
"Finally our people are free," he mutters.
I start rummaging around my bag to find my lunch.
"Akane!" someone shouts across the room, and I stick my head up, "your boyfriend is here!"
Noburo is standing in the doorway looking rather awkward. He does tend to do that a lot, doesn't he? I get up from my seat and make my way over, remembering to say thank you to my classmate on the way.
"Sup?" I ask him.
"I was wondering if you wanted to eat lunch together?" he holds up his hand, showing off the lunchbox he is carrying.
"Sure, that sounds great," I smile, "give me a sec."
I make my way back through the classroom to my seat.
"Sorry Jun, Noburo is calling for me," I apologize.
"It's fine," he reassures me, "maybe I should go look for Rin?"
"That sounds like a great idea," I encourage him, then pick up my lunch, "see you next period," I tell him as I turn to leave.
I grab Noburo by the hand, and together we find a staircase that isn't in use and make ourselves comfortable.
"Jun didn't mind?" he asks me as soon as we sit down.
"No. He went to find Rin," I open my lunchbox and take a look at today's offerings. Chicken!
"That's great. They look good together," he nods.
"I'm of course taking full credit for that," I shove some vegetables in my mouth and follow it with a piece of chicken.
"That sounds about right."
I give him a considering look.
"What?"
"Open your mouth," I tell him, as I grab a piece of chicken with my chopsticks.
"Why?" he asks, oddly suspicious.
I don't think I've ever tricked him in such a way, have I? I'm a very honest and forthright person, so I feel quite wronged.
"I don't have a problem with shutting up, opening my mouth, and putting it to good use, and now it's your turn," I inform him as he starts blushing.
By now he has learned that further arguing will just result in more teasing, so he obediently opens his mouth. I have to get up a little and lean forward to carefully place the chicken in his mouth, but I manage. He closes his mouth and chews, all the while looking like a bashful maiden on her wedding night.
"So?" he asks once he has swallowed.
"Well, I wanted to give it a try. You see it in manga and anime, so I figured why not."
"Don't see what the big fuss is. I think it's supposed to stimulate my maternal instinct or something? Some weird Freudian shit," I dart forward and steal a piece of meat from him in return and settle down to continue eating.
"I think it's supposed to just be romantic," he says quietly.
"Jun has kindly informed me that my heart is made of barbed wire. And something else. Maybe dynamite? Cacti? A rabies infested attack dog? I don't remember, but it wasn't nice."
His piece of meet is rather large. I bite half of it off, it's some spicy cow, and quite good.
"I see," he responds while clearly not seeing at all.
"Did you enjoy it?" I ask.
"Maybe?" I offer him the other half of the piece I stole from him which he shyly accepts.
"Well, if you want to try it again just tell me," he nods in response, and I continue after a few moments of thought, "unless you want my bell peppers. You can't have those, they are crispy and sizzly, so they are my favorites."
We eat in comfortable silence for a little while until he finally speaks again.
"I wanted to ask if you wanted to go out on Sunday."
"Can't. I'm spending Sunday with Jun," I shake my head.
"I thought you were seeing him Saturday?"
"He is going out with Rin Saturday so he can't, and instead we'll hang out Sunday."
"Oh," he says quietly.
It's not that I don't want to go out with him, it's just difficult to find the time. Sunday isn't even just hanging out with Jun it's also doing homework.
"How about Sunday next week instead?" I suggest instead.
Saturday isn't an option since I have badminton practice then.
"Sunday next week sounds nice," he smiles.
I finish eating and pack my lunchbox, and we spend the time idly chatting. As the time for next class draws near I stand up.
"Well, this was nice. We should do this again every now and then."
"Every now and then?" he asks.
"I usually spend a good chunk of my lunch break on homework," I tell him as a look of understanding dawns on his face, "you always just fool around during lunch?" I ask in a mirthful tone.
"It's a break," he defends himself.
"I think I'm supposed to remind you to keep up your grades, but for you that doesn't really matter I guess."
"I, uh, I'm not really good at studying," he looks away.
"Don't worry. I hate school too," he looks at me with surprise and I snort, "I only keep my grades up to have more options."
"What about badminton?" he asks.
"If it works out it works out, if it doesn't," I give a half shrug, "now let's go, classes will start soon."
He escorts me back to class and looks every kind of embarrassed as I give him a quick kiss to say goodbye. I roll my eyes fondly and return to class.
