"...Until stated otherwise, this will be your room for the remainder of your stay in Avalon." The potter, a slim well dressed elderly man in his sixties, explained as he handed Ohta the key to the room.
Ohta nodded. "Thank you." Opening the door, he walked into the spacious room.
It was plain.
A room with a bed in the middle, a reading table in the left corner, a large window revealing the tree garden outside, and a door leading to the bathroom on the right.
The only thing that looked out of place in this room was the chandelier.
Ohta sighed, closed the door behind him, and fell face first on the bed.
Without Mana, Mirage steps was very painful to use, especially in its second Chapter.
But there was more.
He could not help but think back to the annoying day he just had.
Everyone in that class kept looking at him with hatred in their eyes after the test was over.
Especially that blue haired samurai boy, and the gun-wielding blond haired girl.
Its not like he planned to win first place in the test, it just kind of happened that way.
Why were they shooting daggers with their eyes?
There was also that thing.
Ohta reached for his collar. On one side sat a small umbrella shaped pin.
It was yellow.
The announcement he had heard before came from it.
Ohta remembered the explanation Miss Carol, the teacher, had given him.
These pins recorded the overall performance of every student in the school.
There also served as the mark for ranks within the school.
Right now, Ohta and his other classmates were all yellow-ranked.
He had been given fifty points for his performance in the test. Once he hit 1000 points, he could become Green ranked.
1000 points may seem like it was far away. But in truth, it was not.
There were students that beat that within the first six months.
After all, they were judged on everything: skills, cunning, strategy, wickedness, love, tolerance to pain, and manipulative brilliance.
It was not just their academics.
This school—Avalon—was one of four major schools that specifically trained the children of this world to battle the demons that invaded.
While the public revered and praised them, those within understood that the real danger was not the demons, but rather, the students themselves.
After all, to efficiently hunt demons, one must think like one, act like one, and in some cases... become one.
As the saying went; ’if you look on the abyss long enough, it begins to stare back.’
This was a school where snake ate snake, and even ants determined enough could defeat lions.
A world created with both strength and cunning in mind.
One was expected to be capable of leading a war, fighting in it, and also defecting to the winning side when needed.
It was crazy, and sometimes, it made no sense. But this was the method that had saved the human race from those invaders for hundreds of years.
Ohta remembered when he had raised his head in class, only to see that Timi, the new friend he had recently made, with a gun pointed at him.
His Mafia boss instinct from the old world told him that this was just the tip of the iceberg.
Ohta flipped over, staring at the chandelier. Its beauty looked like a mockery in his eyes. Even though it shone its light to brighten the room, a shadow remained at its base.
"The darkest place in the room is always under the lantern," he muttered to himself in deep thought.
Those who preserve justice are most corrupt, as those who defend life are actually killers.
This chandelier was the perfect allegory for this school.
"Do I have to be that same raging killer I was in my former life?
But I don’t want that in this life. If only that old man did not trick me; I wouldn’t be in this situation right now," he sighed.
Ohta was right. His father, that sly old man, Utada the Terrible, had tricked him.
Ohta had requested to go to school.
Even though it was a request, the only way to make Utada bend was to take drastic measures.
Basically, Ohta put a blade to his throat.
Utada had panicked.
After waiting for so long, a child with devil eyes had appeared. He could not afford to lose Ohta.
And so he agreed to the request.
Ohta did what he did so that he could experience the outside world after years of being locked up in the clan.
Attending a regular school was a privilege he never had in his previous life.
Back then, he had to hustle day and night, through blood and sweat—while looking over his shoulder for those that wanted him dead.
Ohta remembered passing by a high school on one of his missions to end a disobedient cartel.
He had found himself staring at the students as they laughed and played during their recess, and intense envy gripped him.
Ohta wanted that life those children had.
"Well, considering the kind of life I lived. I’ll take any high school." He finally came to a decision. "Even this Warzone high school that trains people to battle demons."
While that thought settled in his head, another one came up.
He remembered the alerts tge system gave when he entered Avalon.
Ohta willed in his mind, and it appeared before his eyes.
[Ding: Major lesson learned]
[A king must build himself before he can build others.]
[+20 King points]
[You have been gifted a skill for completing A major lesson. Please note that this skill was crafted by King Solomon the wise.
Aura Tracker: A king sees beyond the ordinary]
[Avalon High School, territory recognized:]
[System facilities unlocked]
[Minor lesson unlocked]
[Storage system unlocked]
[Market System unlocked]
[Library System Unlocked]
[kingdom building unlocked]
Ohta remembered it very well.
The first lesson that the kingly system gave him the moment he was born into this world.
For the last sixteen years of being in this new world, it had not changed. And now, he was suddenly seeing that the lesson had been completed.
Then again, this much was expected. He had not been idle all these years. His old man, Utada the Terrible, was quite strict with his training.
The image of his red-bearded father, laughing hysterically when flying dagger’s pursued Ohta, came to mind, and he felt a shiver.
Ohta shook the thought from his mind.
At least he had not entered this school bearing his family name.
No one here knew that he was an heir of the infamous Iga ninja clan. One of the seven great clans.
He also did not carry that signature red hair of his family bloodline.
He would keep things that way. Attention was not always a good thing.
Regardless, it was fascinating that the kingly lesson system recognized this place as a territory.
"What lesson are you trying to teach me now?" Ohta muttered.

Seeing the new lesson, Ohta could not help but flash back to the hateful gazes of his class mates.
How was he supposed to make anybody one of his generals if all they wanted to do was kill him?
He shook his head. It was better if he addressed other matters.
After all, the other lesson had lasted for 16 years. There would be time to treat this one too.
The 20 king points (KP) he got were because the major lesson had been learned.
This seemed useful. He just had to figure out what it was useful for.
Lastly, he had been gifted a skill. This was the first time he was seeing this much from the system, but he somehow knew how to use the skill.
It was mystical.
Ohta closed his eyes, trying to feel it.
Just then, there was a knock on his door.
Knock knock knock
He opened his eyes. Not a good time to be distracted.
When he opened the door, the old potter stood in front.
"Mr Ohta Waterfell,"
"Yes..."
"You have been challenged to a battle of life and death..."
