She’s not as good as you’ve always thought.

She’s nothing but a stranger!”

I pressed the bridge of my nose, which had suddenly begun to throb, as I listened to Adriana’s endless whining in the room.

“But I know her well, Adriana,” I answered, trying to hold myself back so my voice would stay calm.

“Camila would never do something so cruel.

She’s a good girl.”

”Ah, she’s good, all right.

So good that you’ve fallen for her, haven’t you?!” Adriana accused, glaring at me with a sharply accusing look.

“Watch your mouth, Adriana!” I snapped in a low voice, my jaw tightening instantly at her wild accusation.

“There is nothing so disgusting between us. I think of Camila as my own sister. She’s only my sister!”

I stepped closer to the bed where she was leaning back, trying to swallow my pride.

“I already accepted this arranged marriage with you, Adriana. I’ve also behaved exactly as properly as you’ve wanted this whole time, haven’t I? I even once asked to move our wedding up so you wouldn’t harbor these ridiculous suspicions. But who refused? You! You’re the one too obsessed with your work and your popularity as a model, that’s why you deliberately postponed our wedding, isn’t it?!”

Adriana shook her head slowly, a small, mocking laugh curling on her lips.

“Then why did you look so furious at the vacation lodge the other day, Javier? Why did you suddenly turn wrathful the moment another man tried to get close to Camila? Why?!”

I fell silent at once.

My tongue suddenly went numb, while my hands clenched tightly at my sides without my realizing it.

My mind spun, searching for some logical defense.

“Because… because Camila has never dated anyone before,” I answered haltingly, trying to convince myself.

“And Pedro… Read this novel at novelpin‌g.com for the best experience.

that man is no good for her.

He’s a cunning womanizer.

I was only protecting her.”

”Then who is a good man for Camila, hm?

Who, Javier?

You?!” Adriana pressed on, as though unwilling to give me room to breathe.

“Why do you always talk nonsense like that?!” I exclaimed in frustration.

“Camila and I have no relationship beyond that of a brother and a sister, Adriana!”

”But what if it turns out Camila is the one in love with you?”

This time, Adriana’s question left me utterly speechless.

My chest was suddenly struck by a strange tightness.

My mind flatly rejected the possibility, because I myself was still plagued by doubt over my own feelings.

My feelings for Camila…

right, this was only the protectiveness of an older brother toward his little sister.

I told myself so, convinced by that premise.

I simply didn’t like it when Pedro—that bastard, that swindler of women—touched or came near my Camila.

Yes, my reaction the other day was purely because I was her brother.

Nothing more.

“That could never happen,” I said coldly, breaking eye contact with her.

“Besides, we’re still getting married next month, just as you wanted, aren’t we?

So don’t let your mind wander somewhere it shouldn’t, Adriana.”

I furrowed my brow.

“Prove it?”

”Yes!

You always refuse whenever I ask you to sleep with me.

You only ever let me kiss you.

Come on, let’s do it right now, Javier,” Adriana said, her hand starting to trail along my arm, her eyes gleaming with demand.

I pulled my arm away at once, stepping back from her bed.

“No.

You’re unwell right now, Adriana.

Our wedding is only a month away, so we should wait to go that far until after we’re officially married.”

”That’s always your excuse!” Adriana snapped, her pretty face twisted into an irritated pout.

“You always reject my body!”

”I have to go now, Adriana.

I still have a lot to take care of,” I said, final, with no intention of dragging out this ridiculous argument any longer.

With that, I turned and walked straight out of her room, leaving her behind.

Sleeping together before marriage?

To me, that wasn’t something one simply did.

But deep down, in the furthest corner of my heart, I knew there was another reason—I truly had no desire, no wish whatsoever, to touch Adriana that way.

In fact, if Adriana hadn’t provoked me or initiated it herself, kissing me in public, I might never have brought myself to touch her lips at all.

Every time I closed my eyes, it was the image of another girl’s full, rosy lips that suddenly stirred and disturbed my peace.

I let out a harsh breath, gripping the steering wheel in the parking lot, feeling my head suddenly pound fiercely from the secret of my heart that I kept on denying.
