The sound was like a crystal goblet shattering against a marble floor.

For decades—or perhaps centuries, time having lost all meaning in the looping, turbulent current of the Great River—the silence inside his soul had been absolute.

It was a dark, suffocating quiet, broken only by the maddening chatter of the Sin of Solace and the wet, heavy thrum of his own corrupted heart.Full novel: Shadow Slave: Mad prince — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Corruption was a terminal decay.

To be Defiled was to be forcibly unspooled from the grand tapestry of the Nightmare Spell, severed from its laws, its evaluations, and its rewards.

A Corrupted being was an anomaly—a wild, rabid beast driven entirely by violent instinct, hunger, and an innate hatred for all living things.

When an Awakened fell to the Defilement, their mind was usually the first thing to burn.

The fragile ego dissolved into the infinite horror of the Void, leaving behind nothing more than a meat-puppet animated by malice and raw, unchecked essence.

*He*, however, had not lost himself.

Not completely.

He was the Mad Prince.

He had clung to the frayed edges of his sanity with bloody fingernails and sheer, absurd spite.

He had cultivated his madness, nursed it, shaped it into a weapon, and protected a tiny, frozen core of his original identity behind a mountain of mental atrocities.

And now, as the hot blood of his uncorrupted past self pooled upon the scorched black rock of the leviathan’s shell, a sound echoed deep within his soul sea.

*Ding.*

It was a chime he had not heard since the day he crossed the threshold of Defilement.

The Nightmare Spell had returned to him.

[Welcome back to the nightmare spell, lost from light.]

[Your treachery truly knows no bounds]

[By overcoming the Corruption, you have rejected subjugation and defied a force greater than yourself.]

[You will attain Supremacy after the Nightmare ends]

*’Fascinating,’* the Mad Prince thought, a cold, dry smile stretching across his cracked, soot-stained lips.

By plunging the black jade blade through the heart of Sunless—the naive, uncorrupted boy who had flown into this Nightmare with foolish hopes and fragile ideals—he had effectively resolved a paradox that was choking the fabric of the trial.

The Spell did not possess a moral compass.

It did not care for ethics, sanity, or temporal sanctity.

It recognized only candidates, challenges, and the completion of trials.

By executing his untainted past self, the Mad Prince had removed the redundant variable.

He had reclaimed his position within the trial’s structural weave.

He was no longer a rogue horror haunting the Tomb of Ariel.

He is now the, legitimate Challenger of the Nightmare.

The Mad Prince raised his pale, clawed hands and examined them.

Liquid darkness flowed across his alabaster skin like molten obsidian, swirling with delicate, terrifying patterns of pure, concentrated authority.

When a human soul was corrupted, its rank typically mutated at the expense of its cognitive function.

A Corrupted human became a Corrupted Beast, a Corrupted Monster, or a Corrupted Titan—a cataclysmic force of nature, yet entirely devoid of tactical genius or rational calculation.

They were raw power without a vector, incapable of weaving complex strategies or wielding their Aspects with refined discipline.

The Mad Prince was an anomaly among anomalies.

Because he had preserved the core of his human intellect with the help of sin of solace , he was not merely a Corrupted Titan trapped in a vessel of flesh.

His shadow cores, heavy with the weight of spent ages, slaughtered demi gods, and absorbed soul essence, trembled at the threshold of a higher truth.

The preservation of his mind bridged the gap between mindless Corruption and divine .

He was a Corrupted Titan.

But now he is a Transcended Titan.

A transcended entity capable of manifesting a nascent, lightless shadow incarnation, manipulating soul essence with surgical precision, and slipping through the gaps of the Nightmare Spell to defy his absolute fate.

The Mad Prince turned his head slowly.

His blood-red eyes swept over the seven shadowy titans standing around him.

Gloomy Shadow, Happy shadow, Creepy shadow, Haughty shadow, Naughty shadow, Lazy Shadow and The Crazy shadow all seven of them also feeling the same feeling as his

They were no independent shadows bound by crude soul-tethers, irrevocably tied to his absolute authority.

Below, the Great River flowed endlessly toward the past and the future, its golden surface sparkling under the light of seven suns.

“The boy was weak,” the Mad Prince muttered, his voice like the scraping of gravestones.

“He was a anchor holding us to the bottom of the ocean. Floating through time like a helpless leaf… waiting for a miracle. Waiting for her”

He glanced casually toward the shallow crater where the white fire of Nephis had finally flickered out into cold, grey ash.

He felt no grief.

He felt no longing.

The invisible leash that had bound him to the Changing Star had snapped the moment the boy’s heart stopped beating.

He was completely, gloriously unchained.

“The trial belongs to me now,” he whispered, a quiet, terrifying laugh rising from his throat and carrying across the wind.

“And I shall tear this river apart until I find the exit.”

While the Mad Prince stood beneath the blinding light of the seven suns, somewhere far beneath the fabric of reality, in a place where light had never existed and time had no meaning, something stirred.

There was no pain.

To feel pain, one required nerves, a brain, and a body.

Here, there were no nerves.

There was no flesh.

No heart beat against a ribcage; no lungs expanded to draw in the bitter air of the world.

No blood ran through cold, collapsed veins.

There was only an absolute, suffocating void.

A soul—or the shattered, microscopic remnant of one—drifted through the dark like a speck of dust suspended in a vacuum.

‘Where…

am I?’

The thought was agonizingly slow, forming over what felt like centuries.

It was a fragile, flickering spark in an ocean of absolute pitch.

‘Who…

am I?’

The entity attempted to reach inward, grasping for a foundation, a memory, a name—anything to anchor itself against the infinite expanse of nothingness.

But where a man’s life should have been stored, there was only a vast, empty silence.

He was not a boy.

He was not an Awakened.

He was not a Master or a Saint.

He was merely a shadow.

A formless, incorporeal drift of dark essence, floating aimlessly in the dark.

And yet, despite the total destruction of his identity, a stubborn, irrational impulse refused to extinguish itself.

It was an instinct older than his name, older than his memories.

The instinct to survive.

The instinct to exist, even when existence was reduced to a joke.

‘I am…’

The formless shadow twitched.

‘I am…

still here.’

With a agonizing effort of will, the shadow condensed.

It pulled the ambient darkness of the void toward its intangible center, wrapping density around its spiritual core.

Slowly, millimeter by millimeter, the darkness folded, shifted, and took form.

The shadow stood.

It possessed no physical feet, yet it pressed firmly against a floor of solid darkness.

It possessed no physical eyes, yet sight bloomed within its incorporeal mind.

As the shadow straightened its form, it looked out into the vast, lightless expanse of the dark realm.

And froze.

It was not alone.

Silence—total, heavy, and absolute—reigned over the abyss.

Standing all around the lonely shadow, stretching out into the infinite distance until they merged with the horizon of the void, were thousands upon thousands of figures.

They did not move.

They did not breathe.

They did not utter a single sound.

They were shadows.

Every single one of them was the shade of something that had once lived, fought, bled, and died.

And every single one of them was anchored to this dark realm because of the solitary silhouette standing at their center.

They were the pantheon of his past.

The victims of his blade.

The silent trophies of his long, bloody ascension through the Nightmare Spell.

The shadow stared in mute, paralyzed shock.

To his left, a titanic, mountain-like shape loomed over the void.

Its body was composed of jagged, frozen shadow, radiating a cold so absolute that the dark air around it seemed to crystallize.

Its massive, horned head was bowed in quiet, eternal submission.

The Winter Beast.

The calamity that had laid waste to an entire region of the Antarctic continent, freezing thousands of lives in an instant.

Here, in the dark realm, it was merely a silent, towering monument of shadow ice.

Beside it rested a terrifying, writhing mass of shadowy tendrils and grotesque, twisted limbs—a specter of psychological horror that had once driven an entire facility of Awakened to violent, bloody madness before it was put down.

The Terror of LO49.

Further back the corrupted horrors of the Chained Isles, the armored centipedes of the Forgotten Shore, and the bloodthirsty abominations of the Antarctic center.

Hundreds of thousands of Nightmare Creatures—ranging from humble Dormant beasts to terrifying Corrupted Calamities—stood in vast, concentric circles, forming an army of dead, silent shades.

And at the very front of this silent legion, standing closest to the lonely shadow, were four distinct figures.

A tall, majestic knight in graceful, dark armor, holding a shadow blade pointed toward the floor, her visor dark and empty.

Saint.

A towering, iron-scaled brute with sharp obsidian horns and massive jaws, standing like a stoic stone gargoyle.

Fiend.

A sleek, terrifying stallion with hooves made of silent smoke and a mane of dark, motionless fire.

Nightmare.

And a giant, shimmering sea serpent, coiled quietly upon the dark floor, its cloudy eyes fixed reverently upon its master.

Shadow Serpent.

They were not the vibrant, living companions he had known in the world above.

They were hollow, quiet, and eternal.

They were the shadows of everything he had slain, everything he had earned, and everything he had lost.

The lonely shadow stood at the center of this infinite, silent army.

He had no flesh.

He had no name.

He had no memories of the sun, the wind, or the voice of the girl he had once loved.

He was merely a king of ghosts, standing alone in a kingdom of the dead.

And in the absolute silence of the dark realm
