Just as that thought crossed his mind, a strange sensation began spreading throughout the ruins.

The air suddenly became heavier.

An unsettling silence swallowed the familiar echoes of the ancient tunnels.Full novel: Shadowlands: The Rise of Darkness – The Warrior of Light — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Even the shadows seemed darker than before, as though the darkness itself had come alive.

Small fragments of stone fell from the cracked ceiling, and an invisible pressure swept through the forgotten corridors, making the entire sanctuary tremble.

“Huh…?

What’s happening?” Algeni asked in alarm, quickly scanning his surroundings.

The system answered immediately.

“Danger detected.

A high-level enemy is approaching.

Leave the area immediately.”

“A high-level enemy?

What level are we talking about?” he asked, unable to hide the concern in his voice.

“Enemy Level: 15.”

A chill ran down Algeni’s spine.

“Level 15…?”

“That’s six levels above me.”

Without another thought, he turned to retreat.

But it was already too late.

The monster had already found him.

A new translucent window appeared before his eyes.

Goblin Sovereign Level: 15

Strength: 22

Speed: 20

Defense: 25

Mana: 40

Special Ability: Berserk Mode When its HP falls below 50%, its damage and speed are multiplied by 2.

Loses the ability to reason while Berserk is active.

“Is this for real…?” Algeni whispered, fear creeping into his voice.

“How the hell am I supposed to escape from something like that?”

The system answered without emotion.

“Warning: All exits have been blocked.”

Algeni quickly looked toward the enormous tunnels surrounding him.

Massive cave-ins sealed every path.

His expression darkened.

“How the hell am I supposed to fight that?”

“It’s six levels higher than me…”

“And its stats completely crush mine.”

The system responded coldly.

“We apologize, System User.”

“Your only options are to fight…

or die.”

Algeni slowly closed his eyes.

He thought about his friends.

He thought about his parents.

He remembered the promise he had made.

“Dad…

Mom…”

“If I die today…”

He clenched his fists.

“No.”

“I have to survive.” You are reading on g.com, the official source.

“I promised you.”

“I would live my life the way I wanted…”

“And when my time finally came…”

“I would die without regrets.”

When he opened his eyes again…

They burned with determination.

From the darkness ahead…

A gigantic figure slowly emerged from the tunnel.

The Goblin Sovereign.

Its crimson eyes glowed in the darkness as it let out a deafening roar.

Each heavy step shook the ground beneath Algeni’s feet, sending dust drifting from the ceiling.

The decisive battle was about to begin.

The Goblin Sovereign attacked immediately.

Every thunderous step kicked up clouds of dust as it charged through the ruins, swinging its massive battle axe with terrifying strength.

Its savage roars echoed throughout the cavern like rolling thunder.

Thanks to Danger Detection, Algeni barely managed to dodge the first strike.

The axe blade sliced only inches from his face before crashing violently into the stone floor.

BOOM!

Chunks of rock exploded into the air.

But the Goblin Sovereign gave him no chance to recover.

It attacked again.

And again.

Like a wild beast that knew nothing except destruction.

Algeni could do nothing except desperately dodge.

Each swing came closer than the last.

Then—

The monster suddenly accelerated.

Its next attack was so fast…

That even Danger Detection couldn’t warn him in time.

BOOM!

The blow landed directly on Algeni.

His body was launched through the air like a rag doll before crashing brutally into a massive stone wall.

The impact sent cracks racing across the ancient rock.

Dust and broken stone rained down around him.

Algeni collapsed among the rubble.

“Damn…”

“Everything’s starting to get blurry…”

he muttered weakly.

He tried to stand.

His body refused to move.

“Damn it…”

he cursed through gritted teeth.

His arms trembled violently.

His legs barely responded.

“Damn…”

“If I die here…”

“The guys will probably never forgive me.”

A tired smile appeared on his face.

“I have to admit…”

“It was fun.”

“Another world…”

“A mysterious system…”

His breathing became weaker.

Slower.

With the last bit of strength he had left, he whispered,

“I’m sorry, Dad…”

“I wasn’t strong enough…”

“To even protect myself.”

Suddenly—

Multiple translucent windows appeared before him.

Error.

Error.

Error.

Error.

System User: Warrior of Light has entered a critical condition.

Activating Safe Mode.

A brilliant green energy suddenly erupted around Algeni.

Its radiant light flooded the entire cavern, driving the darkness away for a brief moment.

Even the Goblin Sovereign instinctively stepped backward, seemingly startled by the overwhelming energy.

Algeni slowly opened his eyes.

“…How am I still alive?”

He looked toward the Goblin Sovereign.

Even the monster seemed confused.

“System…”

“Did you do something?”

The answer came immediately.

“When the System Bearer enters a critical state, Safe Mode activates automatically.”

Safe Mode Duration: 9 minutes, 50 seconds Effect: All stats are multiplied by 2 Effect: The user can continue fighting while the timer remains active.

“A Safe Mode…?”

“Like in video games?”

he asked in disbelief.

He immediately glanced toward the blocked tunnels.

“I should use this chance to escape.”

The system replied without hesitation.

“All exits remain blocked by massive rock formations.”

Algeni stared at the collapsed passages surrounding the battlefield.

There was no escape.

No hidden path.

No miracle waiting for him.

There was only one choice left.

Fight.

He tightened his grip around his sword as the brilliant green energy continued flowing through every part of his body.

Slowly…

He rose to his feet.

His determined gaze locked onto the Goblin Sovereign.

“This time…”

“I’m going to kill you.”

The massive monster answered with another earth-shaking roar.

The air itself trembled.

Dust rose from the ruined floor.

The ancient walls shook.

And the decisive battle truly began.
