“Ah~”
Lin Yue was shoved hard against the computer cabinet behind her.
“Where is Yu Songqing?”
Lin Yue frowned. Yu Songqing? Did she mean General Yu? This woman before her had rushed in with such aggressive energy, clearly here to catch a cheating spouse. But why she had come to Lin Yue’s room was rather intriguing.
“Madam Yu?” Lin Yue ventured.
The woman snorted. “Since you know who I am, then tell me where Yu Songqing is. Otherwise, I’ll make sure you can’t stay in Z City.”
Now that Lin Yue understood the other’s identity and purpose, she actually felt relieved.
“I don’t know General Yu’s whereabouts. I’m from C City—”
Smack—
The woman arrogantly slapped Lin Yue across the face.
“If you don’t know, then who does? His audacity has grown—sneaking around right under my nose. Did Yu Songqing just leave your room? I warn you, my patience is limited—”
Smack—
Lin Yue slapped her back.
Everyone was stunned by this scene. Madam Yu was a well-known figure in Z City—who would have thought she’d one day be slapped by her husband’s supposed mistress?
Just as Madam Yu, incredulous, was about to erupt, Lin Yue sharply declared, “Let me make this clear—I am Lin Yue, President He’s secretary from Stellar Group in C City. I am not one of those disreputable people you’re referring to. Around 5 PM today, President He and I parted ways with General Yu. As for General Yu’s whereabouts, you’re asking the wrong person. And regarding your unauthorized entry into my room and assaulting me, I reserve the right to pursue legal action.”
Madam Yu looked skeptical. “How is that possible? How could you be President He’s secretary? Then where is the little vixen Yu Songqing has been hiding?”
The woman in hotel uniform also froze. Trembling, she approached Madam Yu and softly called out, “Madam Yu.”
She felt dizzy—could someone please explain what was happening?
She had just returned from two days off when she encountered Madam Yu coming to catch a cheating spouse. Given Madam Yu’s influence, she didn’t dare refuse her. Especially since it involved General Yu’s alleged mistress, she hesitated briefly before bringing the key card and following upstairs.
But why had the guest turned out to be President He’s secretary? Did that mean President He was staying here too?
The staff member’s legs weakened, nearly buckling beneath her.
At that moment, Yu Songqing and his assistant pushed the door open. When he saw Lin Yue disheveled, with a clear slap mark on her face, he almost fainted on the spot.
“Good god, you’re really going to be the death of me. Have you lost your damn mind?”
Yu Songqing pointed a trembling finger at his wife and roared, “Do you even know who she is? This is utterly ridiculous!”
Madam Yu felt somewhat guilty, but then, remembering Yu Songqing’s recent behavior, she straightened her back and retorted, “This is all because of your philandering! Otherwise, I wouldn’t have mistaken her identity.”
Feeling exhausted, Yu Songqing waved at his assistant. “Call President He. I’ll go apologize in person.”
Then he walked over to Secretary Lin and bowed deeply. “I’m sorry, Secretary Lin. This is entirely my fault for not handling my family affairs properly. I assure you, I will give you a satisfactory resolution. When we go upstairs later, could you possibly put in a good word for me with President He?”
Lin Yue’s smile was stiff, her tone noticeably colder. “You’re too kind, General Yu. I’m merely a minor secretary—I can’t influence this cooperation project.”
Yu Songqing smiled awkwardly before roughly pulling his wife out into the corridor.
“I’m begging you, no matter what, you must make Secretary Lin forgive you later. We can discuss our issues privately after we return, alright?”
“This project has a total investment exceeding 15 billion. If we anger President He this time, the consequences would be unimaginable. You know I’m already not well-regarded by your parents, don’t you?”
“And I really haven’t been fooling around outside, I…”
Yu Songqing was still trying to explain when he suddenly spotted He Yuan emerging from the elevator.
He hurried over to greet him, but the other man didn’t even glance his way. Yu Songqing turned to the assistant, “What’s going on? Why did he come down?”
Assistant: “President He found out Secretary Lin was hit, and his expression immediately changed. General Yu, I think this situation looks precarious.”
Yu Songqing took a deep breath and said, “This project absolutely cannot fall through. Too many people are involved. Even if I have to kneel and apologize, I won’t even blink.”
After speaking, he pulled his wife into the room.
Lin Yue’s not-very-large standard room was suddenly crowded with people.
When He Yuan saw the slap mark on Lin Yue’s face, his expression turned unreadable. He scanned everyone present and said in a low voice, “Everyone wait outside.”
Not daring to delay, Yu Songqing immediately ushered everyone out into the hallway.
When only two people remained in the room, He Yuan approached Lin Yue and gently touched her chin. Startled by his action, Lin Yue instinctively stepped back to avoid him.
He Yuan advanced another step, pinning her against the cabinet. “Don’t move. Let me see.”
Lin Yue held her breath, not daring to move a muscle.
He Yuan’s brow furrowed deeply, the atmosphere around him growing increasingly oppressive. With half her hips already resting on the cabinet, Lin Yue leaned back as far as she could and said, “P-President He, I think I hit Madam Yu.”
Only at this moment did she realize how frightened she was.
Her earlier fierce demeanor instantly crumbled before him. She had struck Madam Yu – a mere secretary had actually hit the wife of their business partner?
Heavens! Had she lost her mind?
To her surprise, He Yuan gently stroked the slap mark on her cheek with his thumb and said, “Well done.”
Lin Yue: “…”
“I’ll go upstairs first to handle this matter. Change your clothes and pack your luggage. Starting tonight, you’ll stay in my suite.”
“N-no, that’s not necessary!” Lin Yue stammered in alarm.
But He Yuan gave her no chance to refuse, deciding authoritatively, “You can choose any room in the suite. Otherwise, I’m concerned someone might knock on your door in the middle of the night again. I also have a refrigerator in my suite with ice cubes. Go up later and apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel to your face.”
Lin Yue looked somewhat dejected. He Yuan’s tone made it clear he had unilaterally decided this matter – her opinion simply didn’t matter.
Noticing his own stiffness, He Yuan softened his tone slightly. “You’re my secretary, and I brought you here. I’m obligated to ensure your personal safety. Of course, I need to give you proper resolution for this incident. I don’t want Secretary Lin dreaming at night and cursing me, thinking ‘what kind of terrible boss is this? He can’t even ensure justice when his employee gets wronged.'”
Having said all that, Lin Yue found herself unable to refute him and could only nod in agreement.
Only then did He Yuan turn and leave, the crowd outside following him upstairs in a grand procession.
The elevator ride was predictably tense. Shortly after He Yuan reached his room, the hotel front office manager arrived.
He was merely the front office manager of this hotel, and had heard that both the director of housekeeping and the general manager were rushing over.
Yu Songqing didn’t dare speak yet—at the very least, he had to wait until Secretary Lin arrived before saying anything.
