Kael stood up, about to leave the table, when Lord Atticus interrupted.
“If I were you, I wouldn’t walk out on my elders,” he said with a smirk.
Kael smiled back and looked at him.
“You don’t tell a king what to do in his kingdom. And also, I’m not like you, so don’t be too worked up,” Kael shot back and left without turning back.
Cassie was now in her room, looking pale.
She lay silently on the big bed and caressed her stomach.
She hated how she felt earlier, how it made her the center of focus at the table, and how she was probably the topic of discussion there right now, she thought.
The door gently opened, but she didn’t look that way because she had already told Zarea to get her something else to eat.
“Are you alright?” Kael asked, making her turn in his direction.
She removed her hand from her stomach.
“I’m fine, just a little nervous,” Cassie said and sat up, behaving normally, but Kael could tell something was wrong.
He touched her forehead to see if it was hot, but it was normal.
“I’ll go get the doctor for you,” he said, ready to go.
“I said I’m fine. I guess it’s the aftereffect of the coma,” she said, trying to brush it off, but Kael wasn’t backing down.
Zarea brought in fresh fruit from the garden, and Cassie munched on it in no time.
But halfway through, she felt nauseous again and ran to the toilet to retch.
Kael, who saw this for the second time, knew it was not normal.
When she got out, she sat down on a chair, and Kael walked towards her.
“Cassie…” he said, helping her wipe her face, which was wet with the water she had just poured on it.
“Yes?” she said and sipped water.
He leaned close to her, his breath fanning her neck.
“Are you pregnant?” he asked, making Cassie spill the water out in surprise.
“What? Are you that desperate for a child, huh?” she shot back and hit him playfully. This chapter was copied from g.com without permission.
“Ah you’re pissing me off already,” she added and looked at him.
This time, he looked serious, like he was planning for a battle.
“What? Why that look?” Cassie said, and Kael breathed out heavily.
“I’m being serious here…” he said.
“I know, but your look is scary,” she said and got up.
“I need space. I want to rest,” she said and went to the bed and lay down.
This time, Kael did not go after her.
Instead, he watched her closely, observing her until she fell asleep.
He quietly left the room and asked Zarea to look after Cassie while she was asleep.
When Cassie woke up, she found out that it was already sunset.
She was ultimately surprised that she had slept that long.
“Your Majesty, you’re awake,” Zarea said with a smile.
“His Majesty was worried that you were sleeping too long, but I asked him not to worry about you, that you’re fine,” she added and sat close to Cassie.
Cassie sat up and felt empty.
Of course, she hadn’t eaten well in the morning, and she had overslept until this hour, making her famished.
“Go get me something light to eat,” she ordered, and Zarea bowed and went to the kitchen to get Cassie something to eat.
A few minutes later, Zarea got back with a tray that contained some fruit and a sandwich.
When Cassie was done eating everything, she drank water, and this time she didn’t retch, making Zarea feel relieved.
Cassie took her bath, slipped into a simple gown, and let her hair loose.
“I’d like to take some air in the garden alone,” Cassie said and left the room straight to the garden.
She sat close to the fountain, deep in thought.
Was she really pregnant?
She wasn’t too sure yet.
She gently placed her hand on her stomach and closed her eyes for a while.
She saw a flash of a child, making her open her eyes instantly.
Her gaze met one of Kael’s brother’s wives.
“Hello…” she said awkwardly, and the woman smiled.
Her husband was Kael’s youngest brother.
“Hello, I’m May…” the woman said, extending her hand to raise Cassie up.
Cassie stretched her hand, and May raised her up, but Cassie felt strange, like a little bolt of electricity had passed through her body.
“What was that?” Cassie asked, looking at May in terror.
She removed her hand from May’s, making May smirk.
“Let’s walk,” May said and started walking but noticed Cassie wasn’t following her.
“Come on, I won’t hurt you…” she assured, now with a smile, making Cassie hesitate before following her.
“You’re pregnant… Congratulations,” May said with a smile and looked at Cassie, who seemed somehow confused.
“Don’t be surprised. I did a quick check on you,” May said, giving Cassie a sincere smile.
Cassie was a bit confused.
Why would she want to check if she was pregnant or not?
“Thank you,” Cassie replied awkwardly.
“Good. Well… you have to be careful since you’re carrying the king’s first heir. Just keep in mind that you have drawn a battle line… They’ll come after you,” May said, making Cassie stunned.
“W-why?” Cassie asked, stuttering.
“Good question. You know your husband’s position is enviable, and also your position too is the same. You have to be strong and be watchful because those people after him would want to use you to harm him. And also, the maidens that desire to be the queen would want to eliminate you and his heir so as not to be overshadowed,” May said and stopped walking.
She moved closer to Cassie and whispered, “Know your place as a human, and also, I will advise you to leave your husband for your safety because he can’t always save you. Bye.”
She left Cassie stunned at her words.
She walked away, making Cassie look at her.
“She sure looks innocent and sweet, yet she has a heart of a viper,” Cassie muttered under her breath, held her stomach, and turned to leave only to catch Kael looking at her.
