2 – Her Man Came to Save Her
Chu Yunruan took a deep breath, concealing the sharpness in her eyes, then leaned back in her chair to recall the entire sequence of events.
She had been tricked by Chu Lanyan that morning into going out, under the pretense of buying cake.
Chu Lanyan was her twin sister, looking almost identical to her, except for a teardrop mole at the corner of her eye, while Chu Lanyan had two dimples.
At their birth, their mother had nearly died in labor, reportedly because Chu Yunruan’s prolonged delivery endangered Chu Lanyan, who almost suffocated in the womb.
Additionally, someone claimed that Chu Yunruan’s birth chart was highly inauspicious, marked by a fate of misfortune, so the Chu family despised her. They abandoned her in a remote mountain village before she was even a month old.
She grew up healthy solely thanks to the care of the grandparents, uncles, aunts, and other relatives in that mountain village!
It wasn’t until Chu Lanyan developed a heart condition in her teens, requiring a compatible donor, that the Chu family remembered they might have another daughter still alive and sent someone to find her!
They then brought back Chu Yunruan, who knew nothing of the circumstances at the time.
To the outside world, they claimed to have found their long-lost daughter, but for Chu Yunruan, they provided only basic sustenance before confining her, forbidding her from doing anything, forcing her to live under constant surveillance.
Chu Yunruan had grown up in a simple, loving mountain village—poor but happy—completely unaware of the Chu family’s sinister intentions!
Fortunately, after Chu Lanyan recovered from her illness, Chu Yunruan managed to escape disaster and gradually stepped into the public eye.
Only then did the subsequent series of events unfold.
Chu Yunruan’s reminiscence was interrupted by sudden commotion outside; shouts erupted, as if something was happening up ahead.
Her heart trembled, and she instinctively straightened up to look out. Tears silently streamed down her cheeks again, the intense joy mingling with the despair and resentment from before her death, twisting her delicate face.
He was coming.
Fu Chenxuan was coming to save her.
In her previous life, at this moment, her mind had been dulled by a high fever—slow to react and naively trusting, further misled by Chu Lanyan’s manipulations. She could never have imagined the man loved her.
Instead, she blindly believed Chu Lanyan and the Chu family, never doubting them!
Yes, they were the “family” who had taken her from the mountains and given her a life of luxury! How could she have doubted them?
Chu Yunruan clenched her teeth, hatred burning so fiercely she wished she could tear their flesh with her teeth!
But the joy and anticipation of soon seeing the man overwhelmed her resentment and bitterness, her eyes fixed eagerly on the spot where he would appear.
Her mind replayed scenes of his kindness, his doting care, and the moment he threw himself over her to shield her as the plane exploded!
Chu Yunruan was now weeping uncontrollably.
After the noise outside quieted, footsteps echoed, drawing closer step by step.
In her line of sight, a tall figure emerged.
A well-tailored suit hugged his powerful, explosive physique. His gaze held no trace of emotion, his cold, handsome features and arrogant eyes fixed directly on Chu Yunruan. His face was strikingly handsome, with sharp, elegant lines.
Chu Yunruan dug her nails into her leg, her eyes red-rimmed, biting her lip hard to keep from sobbing aloud.
He was alive. He was truly still alive.
Her lifeless heart began to beat again. Chu Yunruan stared greedily at Fu Chenxuan, tracing the contours of the face she had once hated so bitterly.
She stared blankly at the man until he stood before her, his hand twitching as if to wipe her tears, but he restrained himself. That’s right, in her previous life she had loathed Fu Chenxuan; even the slightest contact would make her struggle and resist, leading to extreme reactions.
But now, she only wanted to bury her face in the man’s palm, nuzzling close to him.
