To be kicked out of the Immortal World is to be disgraced by immortals and disdained by mortals.
The rats that crawl the sewers.
The stray cats that roam the streets.
Even they would turn their noses at you.
Steer clear of you.
Now, you are one disdained by both gods and men.
Indeed pathetic.
This was the thought that dominated Neo’s mind as he roamed through the streets of this dreary mortal town.
His head bowed.
Overwhelmed with shame.
He, still used to the scenes of the Immortal World, knew not that the thoughts that consumed the minds of these mortals were endless and varied.
Definitely, naught but a stray thought is spared for another one among them just passing by.
Head bowed, and back pressed down by a burden known only to them.
Just another one among them.
That was all he was now.
Each man with his burden, each woman with hers.
Everyone moved at a pace that reflected just the amount of energy they could spare to keep trodding along.
No one cared for some disgraced immortal scion.
So what if he was from the Immortal World.
These lowest rings of the mortal world saw his kind all the time.
How many children born in the Immortal World, grow up and have no bloodline by 18?
Not much, but still a sizeable lot.
Year after year, these rejects are kicked out.
Surely, the mortal world had them in legions.
He raised his head, only for a moment, before bringing it back down.
His moved along with his downtrodden steps.
Surely, among the many gloomy people here, some could claim to have ancestors who descended from the Immortal World.
Even though they were rejects, they were once people of the lofty Immortal World.
Even though nothing of note was left with him, he had been graciously bestowed with the Immortal World rejects starter pack.
A few mortal world currency, and the plain clothing he had on him.
Everything else had been stripped by the all encompassing formation of the Immortal World.
He had trudged from where he was dumped to the nearest town he could find and he was weary.
With no essence cultivation, and nothing but the strength of his ordinary physical body.
It had been a tiring walk.
One of shame.
He wished the Immortal World could have at least let him cultivate for even a moment before dumping him here.
The moment he turned 18, and could finally cultivate, the Immortal World had rejected his very being.
Those without a bloodline were not allowed even the faintest trace of Immortal World essence.
Every breath he took in this mortal world, he felt sick to his gut.
Even taking in the essence was a chore.
He was at least grateful that he wouldn’t be subjected to using the techniques of this mortal world.
As a scion of one of the top Clans of the Immortal World, and one who had dedicated himself to studying.
Cultivation itself was not a problem.
Not having a bloodline was just a setback.
Not the end of the world.
By the time Neo stood in front of the inn.
Most of the gloom surrounding his very being had toned down.
He was still suffering from the shock, but he soon realized a fact.
The world would keep moving, and he would continue living.
It wasn’t like he was without means and helpless.
He had finally crossed the threshold.
He was now a F-Rank mortal.
No longer an ordinary human.
Even if he had just stepped into the rank, he could protect himself in this ragged town.
*
After a night both restful and restless, Neo looked out the window of his room.
The town hadn’t changed one bit.
He left his room, and walked down the stairs to the first floor.
He sat at a table, and waited for breakfast.
His mind active.
His thoughts continued even as he dipped slowly into the plate of bread and mutton soup.
The best thing to do in this mortal world, if one had any shred of ambition.
Was to kill demons.
Kill them, harvest them, sell their parts, recieve contribution points for killing them.
Exchange your gain for resources and cultivate till you reach the peak of this mortal world.
Indeed, there were demons in the mortal world.
Not within the cities, towns or villages.
There were certain locations, where both the Immortal World and the Demon World intersected.
This created a way for the denizens of both worlds to invade one another’s world.
Leading to a war that devastated both worlds, and consequently forced an agreement between the powerful cultivators of the Immortal World and the Demon World.
The war would have a cultivation limit, and be fought at only a few designated intersection points.
In the Immortal World, all such intersection points happened to be in the mortal world.
Now, he felt that this arrangement made long ago might just happen to work in his favor.
Neo had this thought among many others.
The perpetual war provided the easiest way for him to get the resources needed to cultivate and rank up.
The glory of the Immortal World might forever be out of his reach, but the mortal world might work just as well for him.
He needed to find his way to such a designated intersection point.
It was the time to see what sights the cities of this mortal world had to offer.
He steadied his mind as he prepared to embark on a long journey.
*
The cramped space of the carriage was a new sort of nightmare to Neo who was still getting used to the atmosphere of the mortal world.
He tried to ignore the people around him, but he also found himself being drawn.
Their conversations, their mannerisms.
The style of the mortal world sure had a difference to the Immortal world.
During carriage stops, he found himself appreciating the natural scenery of the countryside.
They passed by other towns, some not as gloomy as the first town he encountered in this mortal world, others more so.
This mortal world was a fascinating place to he, who was used to the best of the Immortal World.
He passed by many towns and cities, changed carriages more than once.
And finally, it appeared before him.
Weeks after he first set foot in this mortal world from the grand heights of the Immortal World.
A city bearing a trace reminiscent of the Immortal World.
A city aptly named.
The City of Immortal Glory.
