Bloodlines.
The one thing that determined whether one gets to stay up there in that part of the Immortal World.
Or live out the rest of your life in the mortal world.
The great divide of this one world.
The cause of all segregation.
Even up there, the segregation never ended.
Your type of bloodline.
How many characters it had.
The type determined its function.
How it would assist your cultivation.
The characters determined its purity.
Five-character bloodlines, the lowest.
The threshold to remain up there.
One-character bloodlines, the purest.
One that was no different from the origin.
An era could go by with no child having one of these legendary bloodlines being born.
They were rare.
All of this pointed to one thing.
Bloodlines determined your standing in the Immortal World.
What was Devour then?
Just one character, it very much seemed like a One-character bloodline.
It seemed like, but that was all it was.
Seemed.
Even among One-character bloodlines, there were superior ones.
Devour was more than a step above the best of that category.
It was closer to a concept.
It was special.
It was something deemed as a forbidden bloodline.
*
He was awake now.
His mind had shut down after he awakened Devour.
Both his mind and body had been in need of serious rest.
Neo was now alone at the bottom of nowhere.
He had been healed.
He was back in full health.
His skin was rosy, his hair was full.
He felt better than he had ever felt before.
He had changed.
On a fundamental level.
He now had a bloodline.
Yes, it was deemed a forbidden bloodline.
But it was still a bloodline.
No.
It wasn’t just a bloodline.
It was the bloodline.
The peak of peaks.
If this had happened in the Immortal World.
Up there or maybe even down in the mortal world.
If he had awakened Devour in the presence of the supreme formation of the Immortal World, it would have killed him outright.
Even now, he must be careful.
Devour.
He was giddy.
He laughed.
Tears of joy streamed down his face.
He, of course, had heard the name Devour before.
But he knew not much about it.
The true details of it were kept secret, but every mention of it always had a note of caution.
It was one of the things that could end the world.
It was a great evil.
One that should be exterminated with no hesitation.
Anyone who had this bloodline always brought ruin to all around them.
To the world, and to themselves.
Neo could care less about that.
He had a bloodline now, and for him that was all that mattered.
His cultivation path had become grander now.
With a bloodline like Devour, the things he could do were endless.
He was bare now.
The cloth armor had been destroyed by his self destruction technique.
He released his white essence aura, and created a floating bright light.
He looked around him.
It was still there as he expected.
His Adventurer Card.
These things were almost indestructible.
Leaving the true outlands might have been a hassle if it had been destroyed.
He held it, and tried using it.
It didn’t work.
He thought of how far he fell down to the bottom of this place.
He propelled the light up.
It went on until it became dim.
This showed just how deep this place was.
Would he have to climb out?
He sat down.
As full of energy as he was now.
He knew he still had to rest.
His mind was tired.
He had gone through a lot.
He meditated.
It wasn’t to cultivate, it was to relax his mind and feel his bloodline.
He knew he had a bloodline now, but he knew nothing about it.
Devour like all bloodlines could be felt.
One could hear what they had to say, and Devour spilled a deluge.
Neo had been born with two bloodlines.
Devour and…
Neo almost broke out of his meditative state.
His Clan’s Swallower bloodline.
He had been born with two One-character bloodlines.
This made absolutely no sense.
Devour told him that normally, it would have swallowed the nascent Swallower bloodline in Neo’s body.
But for some reason, Devour had been unusually weak.
Neo didn’t understand what it meant by that.
The two bloodlines.
One nascent, and the other weak had fought over him since he was born.
They had been fighting until the moment he almost died.
When Devour had received Swallower’s surrender.
Swallower had given up, and merged into Devour.
It knew Devour was the only one who could save Neo from that predicament.
Neo was in shock.
Even he who had studied all the knowledge of the Immortal World he could get his hands on.
He had no way to understand any of this.
He had been born with two powerful bloodlines, and one seemed to be gone forever.
Not forever, Devour told him.
It could turn itself into the Swallower.
Not only the Swallower, but all bloodlines in the Swallower group.
The Two-character to Five-character bloodlines of the Swallower group.
Neo was floored.
Was Devour this powerful?
Devour told him this was something it never had before.
Neo was confused.
Now that he thought of it, Devour didn’t sound in any way like a newly born bloodline.
What was going on?
Before he could go further with that thought, Devour told him something.
This place, the strange zone he had entered wasn’t fully real.
It could devour it.
The process was going to consume most of the power it had left, from devouring the pool that almost killed Neo.
Neo couldn’t wait to be out of here.
He gave it the go ahead.
He felt it.
The feeling that nothing could stand before him.
The whole world was nothing but a light snack.
He felt Devour take a bite out of something.
Then more bites until there was nothing left.
He looked around at the new place he found himself.
It was the true outlands.
The darkness was gone.
He was alone and all he had with him was his Adventurer Card.
The team was nowhere to be found.
He had asked Devour about them.
It told him, he was the only one in that strange zone.
Nothing apart from the creations of that strange zone was there.
He had no idea where his sword was now.
He operated another technique.
He couldn’t walk around bare.
The technique created a cloth like essence cover on his body.
He was glad now that he had learned every technique he could.
The essence cover wasn’t a replacement, it was just to cover his modesty.
The thing cost essence to maintain.
His Adventurer Card was back in service now.
It was time to leave.
