Neo was having the time of his life.
As he promised himself earlier, he stuck to the fighting.
He mowed down one demon team after another.
He was getting better at using the Five-character bloodline.
Fighting within the limit of the Nascent Essence Loving River Snake was a form of training for him.
It was the bloodline he would have to display to everyone when the questions could no longer be dodged.
When he had to let everyone know that he was the proud bearer of a bloodline.
Teasing apart the mysteries of the bloodline was a pleasure for him.
Knowing its limit and the best way to utilize it was something he could not avoid.
Even though it was just a Five-character bloodline, it was amazing in its own way.
Surprising him with the many things it could do.
Then there was Devour, the one that made all this possible.
His essence cultivation grew with every demon it devoured.
His cultivation no longer increased by half, or by any such ridiculous amount.
The subsequent increase were at a gradual and noticeable pace.
Unlike the Five-character bloodline, he was nowhere near scratching the surface of what Devour was capable of.
He followed every move and actions of the bloodline, but he was lost on its inner workings.
Neo was on his way back to the team now.
He had been away for long enough.
He had some demon parts with him, something to help with the number of missions accomplished.
Just a small amount, nothing too much.
Something to show that his private hunt had some success.
The team wasn’t too far away from where he was.
He didn’t meet any demons on his way there.
That was maybe not too surprising.
A commotion in the distance caught his attention.
He had gotten closer to where the team was.
He became alert.
His attention focused on the commotion.
His steps became faster.
Then he saw the cause of the disturbance.
A battle between demons and humans.
There were demons by the dozens.
There was the team.
Neo looked surprised.
And there was also another team of humans.
A larger team of more than twenty adventurers.
The whole situation looked like a mess.
The demons naturally outnumbered the humans.
They closed in on them from all sides.
The team was close together in a essence shield dome made by Lancelot.
There were about a dozen demon surrounding them.
The brunt of the attack was borne by the other larger team.
They didn’t possess the same exquisite techniques like that of Mia’s team.
They managed themselves well, though.
They weren’t some ragtag bunch.
Their moves were those of seasoned adventurers.
They defended themselves well, but they had no way out of their predicament.
The demons had them surrounded.
Neo waited a bit.
The right moment to rush in had not arrived.
The whole fight was happening in a clearing.
Neo who was at the edge of the forest was invisible to everyone else.
Demon or human.
The true outlands looked to be growing more trees everyday.
Gigantic trees seemed to sprout out of nowhere, and in no time turn into forests.
What happened to the grasslands, did they fall out of favor?
The moment Lancelot essence shield dome knocked back the demons, Neo attacked.
Heads flew.
The demons didn’t know what hit them.
To them Neo was fast.
Simply too fast.
Neo used a technique that had once drained him so thoroughly that his head felt like it could split apart.
He used it with ease now.
His essence didn’t dry up.
His head remained clear.
Before the other members of the team could attack, he was done with most of the demons.
When all the demons surrounding them were dead, Neo joined with the team.
Sofia, never one to hesitate, jumped on him.
She didn’t mind that there were still other demons around.
Not even how uncomfortable he was with her actions.
Nothing deterred her.
She held on so tight, like she wanted to melt into him.
“You came back.
You have no idea how much I missed you.”
If Neo didn’t before, he sure did now.
“You came at a good time.” Mia told him.
“I am glad I did.”
He turned to the remaining demons.
Most of them were surrounding the other team.
A few of them had turned towards the team.
Moving fast towards them.
Lancelot looked at the demons.
If he used his offensive techniques, the other team will be hit by his attack.
Neo saw what the man was thinking.
“Leave that to me.
Just do your thing when you see a good chance come up.”
The man nodded, though he wondered what Neo meant.
He found out soon enough.
Neo released his white essence aura.
Every member of the team was shocked.
Neo’s aura surpassed almost everyone else, and was closing in on Mia’s.
“Heavens!” Derek, who had been quiet exclaimed.
There was no helping it.
Even Mia found it incomprehensible.
Had he been hiding his essence level.
That sounded like it should have made much more sense.
It just somehow didn’t add up.
Sofia snapped out of it quick.
“Yes!” She seemed so happy as she made a joyful noise.
No one could really tell what was going on in her mind.
Neo’s blatant aura release drew more than just the team’s attention.
The demons paid even more attention.
The other team couldn’t spare much attention outside of maintaining their safety, but even they noticed.
Then the situation of the battle changed.
Something rang in the demons’ minds.
It was wordless, but it seemed to be more than vexing.
It was like a worm that drilled into the demons’ mind.
It sensed their weaknesses and latched onto it.
It was a taunt that mocked each demon.
Attacking their most vulnerable part.
Digging up buried trauma.
It wasn’t just once, it continued with no end in sight.
A maddening cacophony of negative and vicious emotions.
It took over their minds.
Tearing their minds apart, cutting into their most vulnerable parts.
It tormented them so thoroughly, that they cared not for anything else.
Everything else was dropped.
They turned to the source.
Their eyes held a vicious promise.
They would tear this heartless being apart.
