Now, the story was getting interesting.

“I will take a bold guess.

Then decided to go for something better.” Derek was finding the story interesting now.

He turned to Sofia.

“See.

Choose wisely.”

“What are you choosing, you idiot.

Do you even have any idea, what actually happened?” Sofia fired back.

Lancelot sighed.

“Derek made a good guess.

But he missed the circumstances and the reason.

She didn’t decide to find something better.”

Now, this story was getting saucy.

“What then was the reason?” Mia asked.

“A vicious cycle.

She was the victim of a vicious cycle.

One that was initiated long before they both became adventurers.

“When one of the high ranking members of the adventurer company, had still been a fledgling adventurer.

His sweetheart at that time had left him for a high ranking member.

The situation brought along by a mixture of coercion and enticement.”

Lancelot felt everyone’s shock.

“When the new sweethearts joined, he naturally wasn’t delighted.

“He targeted the husband.

He gave him missions that were dangerous and always left him injured, while seducing the wife.

She must had given in at some point.

“But, the man didn’t bother breaking up the couple.

He let them be together, while still being with the wife.

“Now, that I think about it.

He wasn’t really subtle with what was going on.

The husband must have been really blind not to have seen it.

“Or madly in love.

Everything continued, even as they all became high ranking members of the company.

“Something must have happened, maybe the man could no longer bear the love between the sweethearts.

Or he couldn’t have the husband being of the same rank as him.

He poisoned him before that last entrance.

Laying the ground for such a fatal injury to occur.

“The wife must have knew some foul play was involved.

After her husband’s death, she accused the man of murder.

It was like a spark was lit.

The whole company almost consumed itself.

“The internal strifes and resentment that had been brewing silently all burst out.

The higher ups became divided, choosing sides and fighting among each other.”

Lancelot shook his head.

“The whole thing was really messy.”

Everyone was silent.

“Maybe some things really shouldn’t be held in.” Sofia said.

“Don’t you agree?” She said to Neo.

Neo was about to reply.

However, his body stiffened.

He became alert.

The others also became alert.

They felt it.

There was some disturbance around them.

They couldn’t tell where it came from, or why their senses were suddenly flaring with danger warning.

Even as they looked around, searching for the invisible source.

They had already moved into a loose formation.

All traces of relaxation fled from their body.

Mia knew that for everybody to have felt this.

Something was definitely wrong.

She didn’t care that there was nothing in their sight, she gave her command to Lancelot.

“Shield.”

Everyone had moved close now.

Their formation tight.

Even as the shield dome came up, nothing still appeared in their sight.

Something seemed to occur to Mia and Neo at the same time.

They simultaneously used the same technique.

A strange ghostly light appeared all around them.

It moved slowly, but as it reached some distance from them.

It began to reveal something.

Wherever it passed, it revealed a sight that scared them witless.

When the light revealed everything that was previously hidden, they were frozen.

The only reason they didn’t collapse was the fact that they were too shocked to do so.

They could only remain frozen in shock.

It was nothing short of an army.

A literal army of demons surrounded them.

Staring at them ferociously.

The demons seemed to be converging at a meeting point .

And the team just happened to be at that point.

What horrible luck.

Neo knew now was not the time to be shocked or collapse in fear.

They had to move quick.

There was no fighting this.

Escape.

That was the only way they could survive this.

They had to make a run for it.

The army of demons were coming from three directions.

The team was in the middle.

At the place that was the natural meeting point for the three armies.

He looked at everyone’s shocked posture.

They didn’t look they would snap out of it anytime soon.

He operated a technique.

A fierce roar hit the mind of the shocked team members.

It snapped them out of their shock.

Their mind became clear, and they were invigorated.

A strong courage filled their hearts.

Everyone was going to need the help they could get.

“Lancelot, turn your shield that way.

We are making a quick retreat.”

Even with the sudden courage that filled her, the idea of a confrontation didn’t cross Mia’s mind.

The dome that covered them turned into a large transparent shield that guarded their front.

Everyone came behind Lancelot.

They resolved to make a quick escape, but the demon’s weren’t going to allow them walk out of this.

A team of two hundred demons from each army broke off and moved to intercept them.

The team moved fast, but the demons that moved to intercept them were even faster.

Their speed was boosted by some strange glowing tattoos that appeared on their bodies.

As it glowed, the demons speed increase.

They moved so fast that their feet almost never touched the ground.

Mia cast a technique on the team, to increase their speed.

It helped, but she couldn’t match the strange tattoo that the demons were using.

Neo joined in, and they could barely maintain the same speed with their pursuers.

Devour was helping, but he himself wasn’t that strong.

Devour replenished his essence, but his cultivation didnt allow him to cast techniques far beyond him.

And there was no way, he was going to do something as insane as devouring the army.

He had no idea if Devour could devour things that were still alive.

There was no need to figure that out now.

He could try that at a time when there would be no witnesses.

The distance that had been maintained with their pursuers suddenly decreased.

Their pursuers were catching up.

“Team leader, we will have to make a stand.

We can’t outrun them.”

Neo informed Mia.

She nodded.

They were already far enough away from the main army.

Their pursuers were just six hundred demons.

Ones that seemed to be boosted by some strange tattoos.
