The night went on.
It got more rowdy by the hour, but it was all in good jest.
There had been a drinking game.
Some men gulped down beer in large cups as the other patrons cheered them on.
There had also been singing which was surprisingly good.
A local song which everyone sang together.
It was near midnight now.
Suddenly, someone jumped onto a table at the center of the floor.
He was a lanky young man.
He drew the attention of everyone with this action of his.
He raised one arm up in a clenched fist.
“Hear.
Hear.” He shouted, his voice loud.
The floor which had been getting quiet since he jumped on the table with a bang finally quieted down.
“Most of you may know me.” He started.
“For those of you who don’t.
I am Diral!”
He had caught everyone’s attention.
“I was born in this good town.”
He made a slight pause.
“Today.
What I want to say is not about me.
“I just want to say this.” He pointed a finger forward with force.
His arm moved around as if to point to everyone at once.
“This town of ours.
This Decan town.
This place.”
His words seemed to captivate everyone.
“The great people of this town.
These lovely people.
You have done great work.”
He continued.
“You have created a great legacy.
This town wasn’t always like this.”
His gaze seemed to look at everyone.
“No.
It was just a small reststop, then a village.
And now this town.”
“One day.
Oh, one day.
It won’t end here.
One day, it will be Decan city.
Maybe even more.
Decan province.”
“One day!
The name Decan will resound not only in this Primordial Dawn Region of the Immortal World.”
“No!
The whole Immortal World shall tremble at the name Decan!”
“To Decan!”
He raised his fist.
His voice resounded in the quiet floor.
“To Decan!”
A resounding cheer that shook the floor replied him.
The night seemed to have started anew as all the patrons got fired up.
The Primordial Dawn Region of the Immortal World?
Neo had this thought.
The Immortal World had many regions but not too many.
He didn’t think he had ever heard of one that had such a grand sounding name.
This thought took over his attention, his mind going over the list of the regions when he almost burst into laughter.
Of course, it should have been apparent to him.
Just because everyone up there called this place the mortal world did not mean it was a separate world.
No.
The Immortal World was just one world.
The so called mortal world was just the part isolated from the rest of the Immortal World.
It was naturally desolate, and also in a sense the final point of the world.
The so called ascension and descension was the work of the supreme formation that encompassed the whole immortal World.
Cutting off a part of the world, and physically placing it below the rest of the world.
That type of feat was something only the grandest of immortals could perform.
Yes.
The ascension and descension wasn’t only metaphorical.
It was also literal.
Up there was the Immortal World.
The grand part of this world.
And down here was the desolate part.
Both cut off from each other yet deeply entwined, with one grand formation overseeing everything.
All this being the way it was for reasons known only to the greatest immortals.
The reason the mortal world was desolate had never been fully understood.
The history of the Immortal World was long.
Very long.
There were stories that told of a time when humans had not been the only sentient beings in the Immortal World.
It was said that there had been other sentient beings.
A myriad of them.
It also said that this mortal world had been the origin of all humans.
That not only was it their origin, it was also the origin point of the world.
The point from where everything in the world had come to being.
The Primordial Dawn Region.
It seemed quite fitting.
Although it would be laughable to the rest of the Immortal World.
That version of history wasn’t really popular.
To most, it was nothing but a silly children tale.
Not worthy of being discussed in proper company.
The true outlands, the intersections.
Most of it were formed in the mortal world.
The rest of the Immortal World only had a few intersections.
Considering the massive size difference between the mortal world and the rest of the Immortal World.
This was a terrifying realization.
He was interrupted from his musings.
Someone had sat next to him.
Too close for comfort.
He looked at the woman next to him.
She gave him a feeling he couldn’t quite point a hand to.
It felt familiar yet he had a hard time figuring out what the strange feeling was.
It somehow reminded him of himself.
It reminded him of the Immortal World.
Yes.
The place he had grew up in.
Strangely, the feeling reminded him of the him of that time.
The one who had been a true denizen of the Immortal World.
This was another person who had been cast out of the Immortal World.
Probably, a young lady of a clan.
Or just an ordinary denizen up there.
It mattered not anymore.
That was something of the past.
One that could never be returned to.
The two gazed at each other.
Both measuring each other.
They were people who in a sense could understand each other.
They had both gone through the same situation and knew what it felt like.
To be cast out.
To be alone in a world that felt so alien to them.
One they must live in and become a part of.
“Did you become an adventurer too?” She asked him.
Neo nodded.
“My name is Mia.”
“Neo.”
She looked around them.
The revelry didn’t look like it was stopping anytime soon.
“This is my first time meeting someone else from up there.” She sounded amused as she continued.
“And I don’t even know what to say.”
She picked up her cup as she laughed gently.
“Should I ask how the Immortal World has been?”
She dropped it down with a bang.
In the rowdy crowd, it drew no attention.
She drew in deep breaths.
“Don’t mind me.
I just feel overwhelmed.”
She rubbed her eyes with both hands.
“I have been here for more than a year, and I still find myself acting like this.
”
She turned to him.
“What about you?”
“Just a bit over two months.”
She nodded.
“Have you been to the true outlands?”
Neo nodded.
She looked surprised.
“You have joined a team?”
“A team?” Neo wondered why she thought that.
“Don’t tell me you went into the true outlands alone.
Just by yourself.
Alone.” She gasped in shock.
Neo looked her dead in the eyes.
Why was that so surprising.
The portals worked just fine.
They wouldn’t send you to a guaranteed death.
Both worlds had made sure of that.
The portals were engineered to send one to the place appropriate for their current essence and rank.
Some people in the mortal world might think they were fighting a real war.
Honestly, the thing had long become a game to the powerful beings of the Demon World and the Immortal World.
It was now a place for the culling and training of mortal rank experts.
If it was truly still a war, why was everything left to the mortal world to handle.
Enmity still existed between both Worlds for the lives that had been lost.
However, the current state of the intersections.
The way they formed into their own worlds.
He knew the wealth and the resources there was all that mattered to both Worlds now.
Neo had no idea what was happening in the intersections up there in the Immortal World.
He however had an idea.
Resource would have already been divvied up.
With every powerful clan having a stake.
Trading resources with the demons would naturally be par for the course.
He might now be a former scion of one of the top clans of the Immortal World.
However, that didn’t make him forget how those clans worked.
“That is amazing.” Mia was at a loss of word.
She could only squeeze that out after a long pause.
“I don’t know if you are interested in joining a team.”
“Not interested.”
Mia raised her hands.
“Hear me out first.” she continued.
“I have a small team of my own.
You can join us on one entrance into the true outlands.”
Neo felt like he should consider it.
It wouldn’t be too bad to try something new.
“Join us once.
If you don’t like it, it’s fine.
If you find it good, you can always join us anytime.”
Neo felt the arrangement suitable.
Flexible enough.
He agreed to it.
Mia was ecstatic.
“That’s very good.
Let’s meet here tomorrow noon.
I will come along with the rest of the team.”
