It was 5 in the morning, and Jonathan Vince had to go to work at the minefields again.

He didn’t like the job, but that’s the only thing people who couldn’t make it far anywhere, society-wise, could do, and it was better than having no job at all in these times.

“Fuck my life…” Jonathan said as he opened his closet and put on his work clothes.

The man looked to his left, and there stood a calendar.

Multiple days were crossed out until the 27th.

“November 27th….”

“Rent is due in 3 days….”

“How much am I missing, 300$?” He asked himself as he finished putting on his rugged, gray employee clothes and picked up his bag in the process.

“Guess I’ll have to work extra today.”

Jonathan walked out of his small apartment and made his way down the stairs as he went down to see the dirt road that led to the mines and the small white truck that would lead him to the workplace.

He didn’t mind the view, even if it lacked the presence of trees, and made his way down where he walked to the truck, opened its left door, sat down, turned the engine on before closing the door, and driving away towards the mines.

As he made his way towards its entrance with a bag of tools, he had let in the back of the truck.

He was greeted by some employees and security guards who stood outside eating lunch.

“What’s up, Jon!” One of them shouted.

“Came to do my shift Marc!” He shouted back.

“Yup, can tell, just tell them that we’re gonna switch with them in 2 hours, thanks!”

“Alright!” Jonathan shouted as he opened his bag, put on a gas mask, and took out a drill, not bigger than the bag, but it was enough for the job.

He walked into the cave, lit only by small lights above his head.

Drill noises could be heard as he made his way deeper into the place.

He walked for around another minute before he finally found the team, 8 miners, digging for diamonds that their company was going to sell to rich buyers, and their salaries depended on the 1% they were given back for selling those gems, plus the 50% tax of the country.

“We’re switching in about two hours!” He shouted at them, which they understood.

Jonathan took his tool with him as he started his work, gradually drilling through the dirt with his drill.

It took time, and he had some to spare.

“Hey Jonathan, how’s your life been going?” one of them asked.

“Same as usual.”

“Damn, bro, your life sucks.” Another said.

“Shut up, all of our lives fucking suck.” He replied.

“Not as bad as our boss!” he said as they all started laughing.

“That guy was having an affair, and his girlfriend found out.”

“Oh, she did?”

“Yup”

“Good for her, I don’t fuck with cheaters of any kind.”

“Preach, brother.” Another miner replied.

Meanwhile, Jonathan kept drilling through the ground, and he eventually found a shiny spot.

It was a diamond.

He stopped drilling to call out another miner to help on it, when suddenly the cave started shaking violently.

“What the!?”

“The cave is collapsing, everyone get out!” Jonathan said as he and the others quickly took their stuff as they rapidly ran the path towards the exit, when suddenly, the path in front of them fell apart, causing them to fall into a deeper part of the cave, breaking Jonathan’s back as he hit the ground, followed by an unimaginable amount of dirt and rocks falling on all of them.

Jonathan screamed in pain; he couldn’t move, and he and all of the workers with him were covered with the dirt that used to be the roof of the mining ground.

He couldn’t see a single thing, nor did he really want to, as his entire body felt like it had been flattened by a drum roller.

Everything happened so suddenly, he only thought of working today to get the last remaining 300$ now hes going to die in the only place that kept him from going homeless.

He could barely breathe, and he knew that he was running out of oxygen.

The only thing he could do was silently cry, because the only reason he was here in the first place was that he didn’t take school seriously when he had the chance.

With his final breath, he spoke a single word before everything went black.

“…Shit.”

As the darkness took over and his body became colder, in front of him stood a sentence written in a golden rectangle-shaped icon.

[CONGRATULATIONS]

[YOU HAVE COMPLETED LIFE!]

“…”

“…..What?” Jonathan said in confusion as he looked at the icon.

[DO YOU WANT TO REINCARNATE?]

[YES/NO]

“It’s not like I have much of a choice, is there?” He thought to himself as his eyes started to fail him slowly.

“…Yes.”

As Jonathan gave his answer, the sound of a jackpot could be heard as another message showed itself to him.

[WE HAVE A WINNER!]

[YOU WILL BE REINCARNATED AS…]

[A PULSARIAN!]

…

“…..A what?”

Without any warning, everything went black; he couldn’t feel anything, he was dead.

A few seconds went by when suddenly, he felt the warmth of what he thought was two giant arms; he couldn’t see yet, but he felt like something was carrying him.

He could hear two people speaking, one voice was cold but feminine, and the other was masculine.

“What should we name our second child?” the woman said with a cold look on her face.

Hmmm…

“I think Areth will do.” He said as he smiled at her and the child.

He could tell she was happy, even though she had a straight face after giving birth to another child after 19 years.

Jonathan tried to process what was going on, thinking that an entity like god probably made him reincarnate, but he wasn’t sure; however, he was definitely sure of one thing.

“I don’t know who gave me this chance, but I won’t waste it!”

Thoughts?
