Days seem longer when you’re a child.

I spent my time playing with the great wolf, searching for new adventures within the clan, and, of course, training my “Observation Haki”—or, more accurately, my Force perception.

Though I preferred the first name.Full novel: **Star Wars: A Legend Is Born** — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

I knew that power was everything in this world.

If I wanted to protect my clan and my family, I would have to become strong enough that no one would ever wish to have me as an enemy—or, in the worst-case scenario, make them understand the consequences of threatening those I loved most.

Between games, training, and small mischiefs, I turned three years old.

I still didn’t know exactly where I stood in the Star Wars timeline, but thanks to my constant training, I could now sense living beings within a radius of five meters.

I didn’t need to open my eyes or maintain a direct line of sight.

Even through walls, I could feel their presence.

It made escaping far easier.

Physically, I looked closer to a five-year-old, but my mother still refused to allow me to formally join the apprentices’ training program.

“Every child of the clan begins at the age of five,” she would say firmly.

“You will not be an exception.”

So all I could do was wait two more long years.

I also asked when I would be allowed to have my own wolf, like she and my aunt did.

She smiled.

“Don’t rush things, little rascal. Everything comes in its own time. Patience has always been one of this clan’s virtues. When the moment arrives, you’ll know.”

I sighed.

She was beginning to sound more and more like old Master Yoda with those cryptic answers.

Since I couldn’t get a clear response, I decided to investigate on my own.

I overheard several parents talking about a competition that would determine which apprentices earned the right to visit the wolves’ den and seek recognition from those noble beasts.

Only the most talented apprentices could hope to qualify.

The competition was held when they turned ten years old.

Ten.

Far too long to wait.

So I temporarily abandoned that line of investigation.

Another one of my favorite places was the farm.

A collection of fields where most of the clan’s food was cultivated.

There were plants and fruits there that had never existed on Earth.

Some were sweet and refreshing.

Others were sour, yet surprisingly enjoyable.

I enjoyed sneaking in and “borrowing” a few fruits from time to time.

The farm was heavily guarded—the clan’s food supply depended on it—but thanks to my Force perception, avoiding the guards was easy.

Fortunately, none of them were accompanied by wolves.

With their sense of smell, escaping would have been nearly impossible.

One day, while collecting my usual spoils, something caught my attention.

A plant.

I froze.

It looked far too familiar.

Far too similar to something I had known in my previous life.

And then I realized what it was.

A plant that had changed the course of human history.

A versatile food source.

Delicious.

“No way…”

Potatoes.

I had discovered potatoes.

How was I so certain?

Blame the Force.

Ever since awakening to it, my memory had become nearly flawless.

I could recall details from a botany encyclopedia I had read years ago.

The plant was identical.

If I could cultivate it properly, it could provide the clan with a stable and reliable food source.

I wasn’t a saint…

But the strategic and economic benefits were obvious.

The real question was:

How could I convince them?

Would they even like the taste?

Or would it be a complete failure?

There was only one way to find out.

Before returning home, I carefully dug up several tubers.

I needed to speak with my mother.

She already knew I sneaked out.

I had confirmed it the day I nearly fell from a wall and she casually warned me to be more careful.

Ever since then, I had known she was always watching me…

Somehow.

That evening, I decided to prepare dinner.

I wanted to make two versions:

Boiled potatoes and fried potatoes.

The boiled ones were simple.

Water and a little salt.

The fried version proved more complicated.

Vegetable oil didn’t exist within the clan, so I used animal fat instead.

It wasn’t perfect, but it would do.

I could refine the process later.

When dinner arrived, I presented both dishes.

My mother looked at them with restrained surprise.

Alia, meanwhile, appeared completely bewildered.

“I found these plants on the farm,” I explained casually.

My mother tasted the boiled potatoes first.

Her expression barely changed.

Then she picked up one of the fried potatoes.

I noticed something unusual.

The faintest twitch crossed her normally impassive face.

She looked at me.

“Son… where did you find this? I’ve never tasted anything like it before. It’s… delicious.”

I smiled with satisfaction.

I explained where I had found the plants and how I had prepared them.

Her surprise was unmistakable.

She whispered something to Alia, who immediately hurried out of the room.

A few minutes later, the head of the farm arrived.

She was a tall elderly woman whose posture remained perfectly straight despite her age.

I had seen her several times during my previous excursions.

She offered me an odd smile.

At first, she didn’t seem to take the idea very seriously.

Then she tasted one of the fried potatoes.

Her expression changed.

Interest.

My mother asked me to guide them to the plantation.

I showed them the plants, explained how to dig up the tubers without damaging them, and demonstrated how to replant them properly.

I had never actually done it before.

Yet somehow, the knowledge was simply there.

Neither woman asked any further questions.

The elderly farmer remained behind, carefully inspecting the fields, while I returned home with my mother.

She locked herself inside her study—leader business, no doubt.

As for me…

I went to sleep.

Wearing a small smile.

I knew that, on that day, I had done something important for the clan.
