His name was Charlie Parker.

Beneath the cover of night, he quietly climbed to the very top of the building’s antenna tower.

Dark clouds swallowed the moon as Charlie found a spot to sit.

He raised a hand and pulled off his mask.

The fierce wind tousled the teenager’s hair as he gazed down at the glittering city below.

Taking a deep breath of the cool night air, he reached inside the collar of his suit and pulled out his phone.

Anyone who’s ever been Spider-Man knows one thing.

Spider-Man suits don’t have pockets.

He unlocked the screen.

Spider-Man, I know who you really are.

I’m your father!

…

Listen carefully.

Meet me at the Empire State Building at ten tonight.

If you don’t, I’ll kill everyone around you without mercy.

The message sat plainly on the screen.

The sender hadn’t even bothered hiding his identity.

Norman Osborn.

One of New York’s most famous businessmen.

Harry Osborn’s father.

And the supervillain who had recently thrown the city into chaos—

The Green Goblin.

As for Charlie…

He was a transmigrator.

His new identity in this world was Charlie Parker.

Uncle Ben?

Check.

Aunt May?

Check.

Harry Osborn?

Also here.

Everything that came with being Peter Parker was included.

Not long ago, he had been bitten by a genetically mutated spider.

Just like that, he had become Spider-Man.

Super strength.

Enhanced reflexes.

Web-shooters.

Spider-Sense.

Wall-crawling.

He had all of them.

Unfortunately…

Compared to the Spider-Men from the movies, he was painfully weak.

His Spider-Sense only worked when it felt like it.

His reflexes were only slightly better than an ordinary person’s.

His strength wasn’t even enough to lift a small car.

Only his webbing and wall-crawling abilities barely passed.

The weakest Spider-Man…

Had now attracted the attention of the craziest Green Goblin.

Charlie let out a quiet sigh.

Ever since becoming Spider-Man, all he’d done was beat up street thugs…

and occasionally borrow a little money from criminals.

He hadn’t even had time to make an enemy of Norman Osborn.

Yet somehow…

Norman had uncovered his identity and summoned him here.

Charlie accepted the threat.

Just one day earlier, Norman—after becoming the Green Goblin—had bombed an Oscorp shareholders’ meeting.

Harry had been there.

Norman had completely lost his mind.

There was nothing he wouldn’t do anymore.

Spider-Man’s destiny was tragedy.

Charlie didn’t want to lose the people around him.

Family.

Friends.

The person he would one day love.

Anyone close to Spider-Man was destined to suffer.

Spider-Man was always alone.

Having been given a second life, Charlie refused to accept that miserable fate.

He had tried to avoid it.

He stayed away from every spider laboratory and biological exhibition he could find.

Yet somehow…

A mutated spider had appeared out of nowhere and bitten him anyway.

He became Spider-Man regardless.

But at the very moment he gained those powers…

He also discovered the only way to escape Spider-Man’s cursed destiny.

Depend on someone el—

No.

Activate his cheat.

So even though he’d barely grown accustomed to his new abilities…

Even though he knew perfectly well he wasn’t a match for the Green Goblin…

He still came.

He didn’t say goodbye to Uncle Ben or Aunt May.

He didn’t ask Harry to stop Norman.

Because he knew…

Every attempt to resist fate only risked making things worse.

His sacrifice…

Had already been decided.

Only by dying…

Could he obtain the power needed to truly protect those around him.

Lost in thought, Charlie suddenly heard the roar of engines cutting across the sky.

He looked up.

A green figure streaked through the clouds, riding a flying glider straight toward him.

Boom!

Moments later, Norman Osborn hovered high above the tower in his emerald Goblin armor.

Golden eyes behind the mask studied Charlie carefully.

Harry’s best friend.

The two had met countless times.

Norman had always admired the brilliant young man.

There had even been moments when he’d wondered…

If only Charlie were my son…

There was just one thing about him that gave Norman endless headaches.

“Hello, Charlie.”

Norman’s voice was warm and friendly.

“I’m glad you came.”

“I need your help.”

Without hesitation, he removed the Goblin mask, revealing a weathered face scarred by illness.

He wanted Spider-Man’s assistance.

Though…

He didn’t truly need it.

Seeing that Norman hadn’t attacked immediately, Charlie grinned.

“So it really was you, Uncle Norman.”

“Is this your new armor?”

“It looks awesome.”

“The design isn’t perfect, but it’s simple without losing personality.

Pair it with that flying glider’s excellent aerial performance, and it really captures the whole demon aesthetic.”

“Although…”

“The polish on the outer plating could use some work.”

“How about you take it off and let me give it a proper finish?”

“…”

“You know,” Norman said, veins bulging across his forehead, “you really don’t have to talk.”

Charlie’s talent for endless nonsense had always driven him insane.

Other than Harry…

Very few people could tolerate him.

Charlie spread his hands helplessly.

“Fair enough.”

“What I actually wanted to say is…”

“My suit looks better than yours.”

The instant those words left his mouth—

A flicker of struggle crossed Norman’s eyes.

Then his expression twisted into a savage grin.

Without warning, he hurled a pumpkin bomb.

BOOM!!

An explosion of blinding light erupted.

Charlie’s body was instantly reduced to a gleaming white skeleton…

Before the shockwave crushed even the bones into dust.

Below the antenna tower…

The torn red-and-blue Spider-Man suit was carried away into the darkness by the fierce night wind.

As though Spider-Man’s tragic destiny had finally come to an end.

“You’re right.”

Norman smiled smugly.

“Your suit really is beautiful.”

“So beautiful it killed you.”

The smile quickly disappeared.

Clutching his head, he screamed in regret.

“Oh God…”

“What have I done?”

“Poor Charlie.”

“I should’ve talked business first.”

A second later…

Regret gave way to another maniacal grin.

He slipped the Goblin mask back on, stepped onto his glider, and vanished into the night.

“I am the greatest demon!”

“I don’t need anyone’s help!”

“Hahahaha…”

His crazed laughter echoed across the night sky as his split personalities wrestled for control.

It was enough to send chills down anyone’s spine.

Countless stars glittered across the endless universe.

An unimaginably enormous spider web stretched through the cosmos itself.

Hanging upside down from one of its strands, Charlie slowly opened his eyes.

He flexed his hands before checking his body.

Completely unharmed.

Remembering what had just happened, he folded his arms with a helpless expression.

That pumpkin bomb…

Had been far stronger than he’d expected.

And he himself…

Was unbelievably weak.

There was no winning that fight.

Absolutely none.

Fortunately…

The moment he became Spider-Man…

His cheat had arrived as well.

Congratulations!

You have received an Invitation to the Resurrection Match!

Would you like to participate?

The system prompt floated before him.

Charlie pulled his Spider-Man mask back on and selected [Yes] without the slightest hesitation.

A Resurrection Match.

Just as the name implied…

Win the match—

And you earned the right to come back to life.

Of course…

That wasn’t his true cheat.

His real trump card was—

Ding!
