After the mutation began, everyone rushed to the parking garage in a frenzy, intending to drive home.

As a result, nearly half the hotel’s occupants had gathered in the garage.

Some managed to escape, some became food for the zombies, and some turned into zombies wandering the garage.

There were a full thirty-six of them.

Wen Yu’s breath caught, her scalp tingling. She grabbed Pei Ye’s arm and asked, “What do we do? Change location?”

Pei Ye shook his head. “We need the car.”

The hotel was twenty kilometers from the villa, and who knew how many zombies were on the road? Without a car, they couldn’t move an inch.

Without giving her time to think, Pei Ye pressed the car key.

‘Click-click’ — two crisp beeps sounded. He shoved the key into Wen Yu’s hand and pointed to the car. “See the car? Run to it and get inside.”

Hearing this, Wen Yu sprinted.

Pei Ye was driving a large G-class SUV. For Wen Yu, the vehicle was a bit big, but at a time like this, there was no room for fussing. She couldn’t exactly drive her fancy little car—if zombies stopped her halfway, it could be game over…

The car was roughly three hundred meters away.

Three hundred meters wasn’t far under normal circumstances, but in a garage full of zombies, it was a death sentence.

Wen Yu’s blind trust for Pei Ye froze him for a moment.

She actually trusted him so much?

But there was no time to dwell on that. He quickly cut his palm with his kitchen knife.

Fresh blood was far more enticing to zombies than human scent. The zombies that had originally targeted Wen Yu were immediately attracted to Pei Ye instead.

Pei Ye exhaled in relief. Once he confirmed Wen Yu’s safety, he began his killing spree.

One strike, one small zombie—he moved like a killing god crawling out of hell.

But humans get tired. Constant bleeding made him dizzy after a while.

After ten satisfying kills, his knife could no longer one-shot the zombies.

This meant that while the knife was still stuck in one zombie, another lunged to bite him.

They were about to be overwhelmed by the horde.

Finally, the car engine roared through the garage.

The zombies attacking Pei Ye paused for a moment at the sound, but they didn’t abandon their feast. With snarls, they continued to lunge and bite.

Pei Ye forced himself to rally.

After kicking another zombie away, he grabbed the backpack he had dropped earlier, quickly sidestepped to open ground, running while waiting to get into the car.

But the car didn’t stop in front of him—it charged straight into the zombie horde.

With an almost vengeful momentum.

Bang! Several zombies were sent flying.

The car then reversed and, after a smooth drift, stopped in front of Pei Ye.

Pei Ye didn’t waste a second—he got in first.

Only when the car sped out of the garage like a bullet did he notice Wen Yu shivering all over.

He told her to pull over to the side.

Seeing Pei Ye’s bleeding hand, Wen Yu rubbed her face and said firmly, “I’m fine. You take care of your wound first.”

The apocalypse had arrived. The old survival rules no longer applied.

Even with someone protecting her, Wen Yu had to adapt to the new environment to survive long-term.

Thinking this, Pei Ye stopped insisting and grabbed a bottle of water to rinse the wound.

Wen Yu held her breath, then floored the accelerator.

Her earlier blind trust hadn’t been because she trusted Pei Ye—it was because she had her “immortality shield” and knew she wouldn’t die easily.

But she hadn’t expected Pei Ye to attract the zombies’ attention so decisively.

Thirty-some zombies—even low-level ones—could have devoured her in a moment if he hesitated.

Yet he acted without hesitation, giving her a chance to live.

Even Wen Yu, hard-hearted as she was, felt moved.

She even felt guilty, as if she were a treasure and Pei Ye had to serve as her blood bag.

No medicine was on hand.

After washing his wound, Pei Ye could only tear a clean cloth and wrap it around his hand to press for hemostasis.

Noticing the car speeding up, he pressed his lips together and, for once, made a joke to ease Wen Yu’s tension.

“You think if we go faster, the apocalypse won’t catch us?”

Wen Yu was speechless. She shot him a look—he was almost a walking corpse and still joking.

But with that glance, she felt a bit relieved.

For a woman, the worst thing is to pity a man—especially a bodyguard.

A bodyguard’s job is to protect their employer.

Although she, as the employer, couldn’t give him a salary yet, the items in her space could be rationalized later. She could give him extra then…

With a hum, Wen Yu eased off the gas and focused on driving.

Along the way, they encountered three waves of humans being attacked by zombies. In one wave, the people saw Wen Yu and waved frantically, trying to flag her down to pick them up.

Seeing Wen Yu didn’t stop, they even cursed and tried to grab the car.

Wen Yu gritted her teeth and sped away, leaving the crowd behind.

It wasn’t that she lacked compassion—it was that she and Pei Ye were too weak to help. It wouldn’t do any good to risk themselves trying to save others…

Half an hour later, they reached the villa district.

Wen Yu found it strange and muttered, “Even if there are fewer residents, shouldn’t some have mutated? Why don’t I see any zombies?”

“They must have been cleared already,” Pei Ye replied. “The security here is all hired from professional companies. They can handle a few waves of zombies. Besides, who doesn’t have a few bodyguards at home?”

As long as the bodyguards didn’t turn into zombies, controlling the situation was easy.

Wen Yu didn’t snicker—she’d never had a bodyguard before.

But now she did—heeheehee.

The two of them returned to the villa without obstruction.

The villa was empty—probably because the household’s staff had sensed danger and gone home.

Wen Yu wanted to take advantage of the water and electricity still being on to take a shower, while Pei Ye searched for a first-aid kit.

The wound on his hand was too large; pressing alone wouldn’t stop the bleeding.

Before returning to the room, Wen Yu thought of her reincarnation gift pack. She turned toward the kitchen, fetched two cups of moderately warm water, and dropped some vitality-enhancing pills from a porcelain bottle into them.

The pills dissolved immediately.

Wen Yu took a sip first. There was no distinct taste, then she carried both cups to the living room.

By then, Pei Ye had finished applying medicine and was wrapping his hand with gauze.

Wen Yu set down the water, helped wrap the gauze, and pulled a pair of medical latex gloves from the bottom of the first-aid kit—actually from her space—and handed them to Pei Ye. “Wear these in the shower—they’re waterproof.”

“Okay.”

“Drink some water first, so you don’t faint in the shower and I have to fish you out.”

“Alright.” Pei Ye smiled and drank the water in his glass.

Seeing no issues after he drank, Wen Yu finally took a sip herself.

After finishing the water, both went to take a shower.

Pei Ye cleaned himself, changed into comfortable home clothes, and began planning villa security.

Wen Yu lay in the bathtub, enjoying the last moments of indulgence before the water ran out.

Ah, if only she could bring things from her space into here…

The next second, she, along with the bathtub, was transported into her storage space.

Wen Yu gasped and instinctively hugged herself.

Seeing she was the only living being there, she slowly relaxed, leaning over the bathtub’s edge to observe her surroundings.

After a while, she recalled the control panel that had appeared not long ago and suddenly whispered,

“System?”
