The Cayenne crawled along at a snail’s pace, and Pei Yan was in a terrible mood. She turned to Fu Huaizhou and asked, “Can’t you drive faster?”

Fu Huaizhou replied, “Safety first.”

Her phone suddenly rang. Pei Yan picked it up and saw messages from friends expressing concern.

Pei Yan was taken aback—had that video made it to the hot search list?

Before she could check online, Pei Ying called again.

“Hello? Sis,” Pei Yan answered.

“Where are you?” Pei Ying asked.

Pei Yan said, “I just left Li Yueting’s place.”

Pei Ying asked, “Is the video online true?”

Pei Yan responded with an “Mhm,” “It’s true. I just broke up with Li Yueting. Over there—”

The Cayenne suddenly swerved toward the curb.

Pei Yan was thrown back against her seat. Fu Huaizhou slammed on the brakes, and she lurched forward, only to be jerked back by the seatbelt.

Before she could say anything, Pei Ying continued asking questions on the other end.

Pei Yan had no choice but to answer her sister first—

“Yes, sis, we really broke up.”

“I was the one who ended it. Since it’s over, let’s cancel the engagement as soon as possible.”

“Could you handle explaining things to his parents?”

“I got the brooch back, but I threw it away… Why? Because it disgusted me.”

Fu Huaizhou quietly processed the news of Pei Yan’s breakup with Li Yueting, then steered the car back onto the road.

With every word Pei Yan spoke, his restless blood simmered with growing intensity.

They broke up!?

A brilliant light flashed through Fu Huaizhou’s gloomy eyes.

After finally dealing with Pei Ying, Pei Yan leaned back exhaustedly and asked Fu Huaizhou, “Where can we go for a drink?”

Fu Huaizhou said, “Why drink in broad daylight? If you’re feeling down, I’ll take you somewhere.”

Pei Yan agreed. She didn’t want to go to the studio or return home either.

Surprisingly, she felt more at ease around Fu Huaizhou, this familiar stranger.

The Cayenne eventually stopped at the entrance of a private amusement park.

Pei Yan frowned, “Why did you bring me here?”

Fu Huaizhou unbuckled his seatbelt and said, “To have fun!”

Pei Yan retorted, “…Who’s in the mood to play with you?”

“True,” Fu Huaizhou scoffed lightly. “If it were Yueting here, you’d probably be willing.”

Pei Yan closed her eyes briefly, then turned to him, “Are your ears working? I just told you I broke up with him. Don’t mention him in front of me again.”

Fu Huaizhou rubbed his thumb over his knuckle, giving her a fake smile, “Everyone knows you were about to get married.”

“So what if we were? People get divorced even after marriage.” When Pei Yan was in a bad mood, she loved being contrary.

For every word someone said, she’d retort with ten.

Fu Huaizhou tried to reason, “He’s actually a good guy. Maybe there’s some misunderstanding? You’ve known each other since childhood, you and he…”

Pei Yan unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car, not bothering to listen to him play mediator.

“Are you here on Li Yueting’s behalf?” Pei Yan stood by the car door, watching Fu Huaizhou as he got out. “If you’re here to mediate, I’m leaving right now.”

Fu Huaizhou quickly raised his hands in surrender, “I won’t say another word. Shall we go in?”

Pei Yan snorted haughtily and turned away.

A smile played on Fu Huaizhou’s lips as he quietly followed behind her.

He’d have to be insane to speak up for Li Yueting. But now wasn’t the right time—he still had to maintain his image.

Without using Li Yueting as an excuse, he had no way to get close to Pei Yan.

Fu Huaizhou was well aware of Pei Yan’s rebellious nature; some things were said deliberately just to provoke her.

It was laughable how Li Yueting kept describing Pei Yan as gentle and magnanimous in front of him.

In reality, she had a terrible temper and loved to argue, and that gentleness was only reserved for Li Yueting because he was her boyfriend.

For a moment, Fu Huaizhou was so consumed by jealousy that his expression darkened.

But as his gaze fell upon the slender figure ahead, he quickly regained his composure.

He wasn’t her boyfriend anymore—he was her ex-boyfriend.

Feeling rather pleased, Fu Huaizhou quickened his pace to catch up with her.

Though Pei Yan was also born with a silver spoon in her mouth, the sight of the ultra-luxurious amusement park built exclusively for the younger generation of the Fu family still left her astonished.

Fu Huaizhou’s grandfather was an orphan of a martyr and a patriotic businessman who single-handedly established Fenghua Industrial.

After decades of trials and tribulations, it had grown into the present-day Fenghua Group.

The old man had three sons and one daughter. The eldest son was once a diplomat but passed away from illness six years ago, leaving no children.

The second son was Fu Huaizhou’s father, now the head of Fenghua Group.

The youngest son became a geologist, and the youngest daughter served as the vice president of Sui River Academy of Fine Arts.

Not to mention their spouses, who were all elites and leaders in their respective fields.

As the eldest grandson and son, Fu Huaizhou naturally held a distinguished status within the Fu family.

However, he had always focused on managing his own Yi Xing Medical Technology company and had not involved himself in the internal operations of Fenghua Group.

Pei Yan hadn’t walked far when a smart sightseeing vehicle approached them.

Fu Huaizhou reached out his hand to her. “Let me help you up.”

Pei Yan could already walk, though not for extended periods.

When her jade-like hand landed in his palm, Fu Huaizhou instinctively tightened his grip.

Startled, Pei Yan tried to pull away, but Fu Huaizhou didn’t let go, causing her to lose her balance.

Just as she was about to fall, Fu Huaizhou wrapped an arm around her waist.

Her firm chest collided with his, and Pei Yan’s face flushed red as she frantically pushed him away.

“Are you crazy? Why did you hold my hand?”

Fu Huaizhou had no explanation and could only say, “Sorry.”

Pei Yan held onto the doorframe to get into the vehicle, not forgetting to taunt him, “Don’t tell me you’ve been playing around in nightclubs so much that you want to hold any woman’s hand. I’m warning you, I’m not like those women.”

Fu Huaizhou’s expression darkened. “Why would you compare yourself to those women?”

A hundred or ten thousand of them combined couldn’t measure up to her.

“Who knows?” A trace of sadness flickered in Pei Yan’s eyes.

Hadn’t Li Yueting compared her before?

It was just half a year ago, when Fu Huaizhou had sent her home, that they had argued on the street because Li Yueting said she wasn’t as good at pleasing him as the women who specifically targeted rich men.

Pei Yan only knew how to control him.

Fu Huaizhou got into the vehicle and sat beside her. Sensing her low spirits, he handed her a handkerchief.

Pei Yan gritted her teeth. “…I’m not crying.”

Fu Huaizhou: “Oh, I just thought you were about to cry. Weren’t you quite the crybaby when you were little?”

Pei Yan: “…”

He always knew exactly what not to say.

Besides, she hardly knew him when they were children, right?

The smart vehicle took them to the center of the amusement park.

The outdoor area featured large-scale rides, which Pei Yan couldn’t enjoy with her injured foot, but there were plenty of indoor activities available.

Pei Yan’s eyes lit up at the sight of the claw machine. She turned to Fu Huaizhou and asked, “This one shouldn’t be as hard to win as the ones outside, right?”

Fu Huaizhou raised an eyebrow. “Give it a try.”

Pei Yan scanned several dozen game tokens from the nearby machine, only to fail on her very first attempt.

“Do you treat all your kids like this?” she said with clear distaste.

Fu Huaizhou chuckled. “You’re just not doing it right. Let me show you.”

With that, he stepped forward, took a coin and inserted it into the slot. Then he braced one hand against the glass frame of the claw machine while reaching his other arm around Pei Yan’s waist to grasp the control stick.

This effectively trapped Pei Yan in the space between him and the claw machine.

“I…”

Pei Yan instinctively inhaled and tried to pull away, but Fu Huaizhou lifted his chin and said, “Got it.”

Delighted, Pei Yan crouched down to retrieve the plush toy, completely unaware that their intimate moment had already been captured in someone else’s camera lens.
