As we drive away, Ryder is furious.

“How can that woman disrespect you like that?

She is disrespecting the entire Ice Moon Pack too.

I could have killed her right there.

She’s lucky I didn’t shift.

My wolf would not have allowed her to stay living.”

“I know.

She’s awful.

This is Silver Claw land, we need to restrain ourselves.

Tiffany’s karma is still on its way and I can assure you it will be harsh.

Let me text Theodore and tell him any deal he wants is off.”

Ryder pulls off the road to give me space and time to write the text.

He gets out of the car to walk off some of the adrenaline still coursing though his body.

“I’ll be back just now.” He walks off down the road.

I pick up my phone

Alpha of Silver Claw,

There will be no partnership between Ice Moon Pack and yours.

Instead of coming yourself, as respect would dictate, you sent your emissary who proceeded to insult us and disrespect us.

We are heading home.

Do not contact us again.

Princess, Ice Moon Pack

Almost as soon as I send the message, he replies.

Dear Princess,

Please accept my apologies.

I’m confused about what happened.

I had all intentions of coming to the meeting but was called away by an emergency at the last minute.

I thought the person I sent would attend to the issues properly, apparently that didn’t happen and I’m sorry.

Please, come to the reception I’m holding in your honour tomorrow night.

I will prepare a meeting space so that we can sort out our issues before the party.

I know that I can clear up all misunderstandings if you just give me a chance.

I apologise for whatever happened.

Please allow me to apologise in person and make up for everything.

I know we can find a way to make this partnership work.

Alpha Silver Claw Pack

If I didn’t know Theodore, I would take this message as genuinely contrite.

But he knows who he sent.

Even if it wasn’t me, Tiffany is not a serious person and her girl gang is even worse!

Ryder returns to the car and I show him the messages.

He reads them and looks up at me.

“What should we do?”

“Go home, of course.”

He reads the message from Theodore again.

“I think he genuinely didn’t want that to happen and knows nothing about it. I think we should give him another chance. We’ve come this far, let’s finish what we started.”

I sigh and rub my forehead.

I know Ryder is right.

I also know that when Tiffany gets to Theodore he will know that Ice Moon Pack is lead by me.

If I leave without meeting him, he will come to me, I know this. This chapter was copied from g.com without permission.

He might come at any time, when I’m not prepared.

I wouldn’t want that.

At least at the reception I’m going knowing what is going to happen, having some control over the events.

It’s better when I have control.

“Okay, you’re right.

Let’s spend the night in the other town.

We’ll go to his reception tomorrow night.

See if this deal can happen.”

“I’ll need to get a dress too.

Let’s get a room and then I’ll go shopping in the morning.”

***

We get the penthouse suite at the best hotel in town.

We have a good night’s sleep.

In the morning Ryder heads off to the hotel gym and I walk down the high street to find a dress.

I find a boutique with evening gowns and step inside.

“Good morning,” I say to the woman behind the counter who watched me as I walked into the boutique.

She doesn’t move from behind the counter.

“Yes? What do you want here?”

I’m confused by her tone and her lack of a greeting.

“I need to buy an evening gown. I wanted to look at some, maybe try a few on.”

The woman laughs.

“I think you might be lost. These are designer gowns. Far too expensive for you. There’s a mall about six blocks down. Try there. You can find some ready-made dresses that can meet your budget.”

I smile.

She’s not the first to undermine me, though she may be the last.

I’m tiring of this.

“I’m assuming you’re not the manager. Can I see the manager?”

The woman is getting annoyed now.

“There’s no need for that.

I think instead I should call our security guard to escort you out.”

“Get your manager.” My voice is firm and perhaps a bit too loud because a woman comes out of the back.

“Barb? Is there a problem here?” the older woman asks.

She looks at Barb and then at me.

“Yes! This woman wandered in here off the street. She insists she needs to look at dresses, wants to try them on even. I’ve explained to her that she’ll not be able to afford anything in the store and now she refuses to leave.”

I step toward the older woman.

“Are you the manager?”

“Yes, I am.”

I hand her my black credit card written: Princess, Ice Moon Pack.

She hands it back to me quickly.

“I’m so very sorry for the misunderstanding, Princess.”

I look at the saleswoman and say nothing.

The manager understands.

“Yes, of course.

Barb, apologize to the Ice Moon Pack Princess.”

“I…I didn’t know who she was…”

“Of course you didn’t,” I say.

“That’s why you treated me so rudely.

As you likely treat lots of women who enter this store.

Women you think you’re better than.

That is what you’re apologizing for.”

“I’m sorry,” Barb says.

I look at the manager again and wait.

“Yes…Barb, please get your things. You’re fired.”

Barb says nothing.

She walks to the back room and collects her bag.

I watch her leave.

“Now, Princess, can I help you find a dress?” the manager says.

“Yes, I think you can.”

***

I decide to go all out.

I intend to make an entrance no one will ever forget.

My reentry into the realm of the Silver Claw Pack will be an event.

In the hotel room, I put on the evening gown.

It’s simple, but as the manager said when I put it on in the boutique, it is the perfect colour for my skin tone, my auburn hair and my green eyes.

The dark magenta gown flows to the floor, cut deep in the front and at the back, all the way to the top of my bum.

It feels erotic next to my skin.

It flows over me like water.

I put on the diamond choker I bought at the jewellery store down from the boutique.

Then I pull my hair up into a loose chignon.

I put on the choker’s matching diamond earrings.

I look at myself.

I am the Princess of the Ice Moon Pack, soon to be the Alpha— a female Alpha with more power than any Alpha that has gone before her.

And then I look at myself as Theodore will see me tonight.

I think about the last time he saw me five years ago.

I was strapped to a bed in the mental hospital.

He was telling me I was a liar, I was insane, not fit to be his Luna.

He said he would decide when I would be let out of that torture chamber.

He left without looking back.

He was wrong on every count that day.

Tonight he will learn how wrong he has been.

After five years, he will see his powerful wife and ache for me.

I want him to see clearly who I am.

He will be mistaken to think I have changed.

I have not!

I am the same person.

He was too weak to see the truth about me then.

That will cost him dearly.

He will ache for me tonight.

And then I will reject him, put him where he belongs, teach him a lesson he will not forget.

I walk out to grand sitting room of the penthouse where Ryder waits, ready for the reception.

He looks up from the book he’s reading.

“Wow! You’re stunning! No woman will even touch you, every man will dream you’re his.”

I look at Ryder in his black tuxedo, tight in places where his masculinity pushes forward.

“You’re not a slouch either,” I say smiling.

“I’m happy to be on the arm of such a sexy man tonight.”

“You remember I’m married, right?” Ryder says teasing.

“No funny business.”

“You remember I’m married too?” I say.

“How could I forget? And that husband of yours is going to get an eyeful tonight, I promise you,” Ryder says.

“He’s going to regret ever making the choices he has.”

I feel beautiful and powerful.

And ready.
