Qi Yue stared as Yu Zhiming’s hands slowly moved down from his niece’s chest to her lower abdomen. After more than half an hour, he finally withdrew his hands and straightened up.
He couldn’t help but ask, "Dr. Yu, is the examination over? Did you find anything?"
"Ms. Yin, you can get up now."
Yu Zhiming first addressed Yin Wenzhu. After pulling off his gloves, his gaze shifted to Qi Yue.
"Mr. Qi, from what I can perceive, your niece’s internal organs are generally weak. They give off a sense of sluggishness."
"In layman’s terms, your niece is in a state of severe sub-health."
At this, Yu Zhiming saw Qi Yue’s lack of reaction and knew the man was unimpressed with this explanation.
After all, anyone could see that Yin Wenzhu was slender and frail, her face slightly pale—clear signs that she wasn’t exactly bursting with energy.
’I need to give him something more concrete.’
He continued, "There are three organs that will require close attention moving forward."
"First, there are nodules in her lungs."
"The lung nodules are few and scattered, not clustered together. The largest is only three to four millimeters in diameter, so they don’t require any special treatment. However, they will need to be specifically monitored during future check-ups."
Yu Zhiming finally saw Qi Yue’s expression turn a little more serious.
He continued his report, "Second is the liver!"
"The liver isn’t obviously enlarged or abnormal, but I can perceive that its surface has some bumps and isn’t smooth."
Yu Zhiming looked at Yin Wenzhu, who had stood up. "Ms. Yin, you’re quite slim, and your blood flow doesn’t seem particularly viscous. This indicates that your blood lipids aren’t high."
"I deduce that you have mild alcoholic fatty liver disease?"
Yin Wenzhu glanced at Qi Yue first. Seeing no reaction from him, she replied softly, "Dr. Yu, I do indeed have a fatty liver."
"I used to drink quite a lot for work."
"After being diagnosed with a fatty liver, I’ve been drinking very little these past few years."
Yu Zhiming let out a soft "oh" as Qi Yue’s voice cut in again. "Dr. Yu, the third organ to watch out for... is it the heart?"
"The ovaries!"
Yu Zhiming replied succinctly, then explained, "Based on my perception, both of her ovaries show some atrophy."
"Ms. Yin, have you been without a boyfriend for a long time? Hmm, at least three to five years?"
Faced with this question, a light blush crept onto Yin Wenzhu’s cheeks.
She replied awkwardly, "Um, uh, I’m usually busy with work, so I don’t have time to date."
"Um, Dr. Yu, is that... harmful in any way?"
Yu Zhiming chose his words carefully. "Your body is in a state of severe sub-health..."
"Combined with the long-term lack of, well... intimacy, if you don’t rest properly and make some changes, it’s possible..."
"...that you might start menopause a few years earlier than others."
Just then, Qi Yue’s voice rang out again. "Wenzhu, did you hear what Dr. Yu said?"
"Your physical condition is much more serious than I realized."
"When you get back, quit your job. Take some time to rest and recuperate, and hurry up and find a boyfriend."
When Qi Yue saw his niece press her lips together in silence, he knew he would have to persuade her more forcefully when they got back.
He turned to Yu Zhiming and asked with concern, "Dr. Yu, her heart... did you find any problems with it?"
Yu Zhiming shook his head. "Your niece’s heart function is quite good. I didn’t detect any abnormalities."
"Dr. Yu, are you sure there’s really nothing wrong with her heart? Should you check it again?"
As soon as Qi Yue asked this, he knew his tone had been too skeptical and quickly tried to smooth things over. "Dr. Yu, please don’t take it the wrong way. I meant no offense."
After a two-second pause, he explained further, "Last month, Wenzhu suddenly fainted while showering at home and split her head open."
"That night, if a subordinate hadn’t happened to come by to drop off some documents, the consequences would have been unthinkable."
As he said this, an expression of lingering fear appeared on Qi Yue’s face.
"The hospital test results for Wenzhu’s sudden collapse couldn’t completely rule out a cardiac cause for the sudden loss of consciousness."
Qi Yue said with a solemn expression, "Dr. Yu, you have a unique skill when it comes to cardiac examinations..."
Yu Zhiming interrupted him directly, asking in a puzzled tone, "Mr. Qi, where did you hear that I have a unique skill in the field of cardiology?"
Qi Yue smiled lightly. "Dr. Yu, this past March, on the South Bank of Binhai Pujiang, didn’t you perform a physical examination on a man in his forties and tell him he needed to start looking after his heart right away, or there would be serious problems?"
"Mr. Qi, did something actually happen to that man’s heart?" Yu Zhiming asked urgently, his narrowed eyes doubling in size.
Qi Yue nodded and sighed softly. "Just last Tuesday night, he went into cardiac arrest!"
"Fortunately, he took some of your warning to heart. Acting on the ’better safe than sorry’ principle, he had stocked emergency heart medication at home."
"His wife also learned CPR. That kept him going until he reached the hospital, allowing him to narrowly escape death."
"However, a long recovery period is unavoidable."
Qi Yue sighed wistfully, then continued, "Dr. Yu, I know this person."
"He also told me what you warned him about at the time."
"You told him..."
"...his heart was like a marathon runner in the final sprint. On the surface, it looked vigorous and fast, but inside, it was utterly exhausted and could stop at any moment."
Yu Zhiming nodded, indicating that he had indeed said that.
He added humbly, "Mr. Qi, actually, I was just voicing a vague sensation I perceived during the examination. I wasn’t confident in it at all; I wasn’t so sure."
"I never expected my words to become a grim prophecy!"
Qi Yue chuckled. "Dr. Yu, that ’sensation’ is exceptionally important. It’s proof that you possess extremely strong intuition and talent in diagnostics."
He then lamented slowly, "Becoming a competent doctor is relatively easy."
"But becoming an outstanding, extraordinary, renowned doctor is incredibly difficult. What most doctors who aspire to that level lack is precisely this kind of intuition and talent."
"Dr. Yu, you have the potential to become a great doctor!"
Though Yu Zhiming was inwardly delighted, he replied with great humility, "Mr. Qi, you’re too kind, you’re too kind."
"It’s not about talent. I’m just a junior doctor from a county hospital. That diagnosis was most likely just a stroke of blind luck."
Qi Yue laughed. "Dr. Yu, you’re selling yourself short. Your future is full of possibilities!"
Yu Zhiming tried to respond with a smile, but it pulled at his injury, causing him to grimace in pain.
He quickly changed the subject. "If that man took my words to heart and even stocked emergency medication, why didn’t he go to the hospital for a cardiac check-up?"
A complicated expression appeared on Qi Yue’s face. He said sullenly, "He did go to the hospital for a comprehensive cardiac examination."
"It’s just that the test results... showed his heart was quite healthy."
Yu Zhiming let out a long "Ohhh."
A silence fell over the hospital room.
Dean Wu, who hadn’t been able to get a word in, was just about to break the silence when he saw Qi Yue straighten his posture.
"Dr. Yu, let me reintroduce myself. I am also a doctor, from Binhai Huashan Hospital."
Dean Wu finally found an opening and quickly chimed in, "Xiaoyu, Dr. Qi is no ordinary person."
"He is a nationally renowned diagnostic expert. At Binhai Huashan Hospital, he leads a medical research center named after him."
"Xiaoyu, you’ve heard of Huashan Hospital, right?"
Dean Wu was full of excitement and continued without waiting for Yu Zhiming’s response, "Huashan Hospital is one of Binhai’s four major hospitals, and it’s also highly ranked among the nation’s large-scale comprehensive hospitals—in the top thirty, at least."
Yu Zhiming hadn’t realized Qi Yue was such a big deal.
After Dean Wu finished speaking, he quickly adopted the posture of a humble junior and bowed to Qi Yue.
"Mr. Qi, so you’re a renowned senior in the medical field. Forgive my ignorance for failing to recognize such an esteemed figure."
He added, embarrassed, "I was just showing off my amateur skills. I must have made a fool of myself."
A faint smile appeared on Qi Yue’s face. "Dr. Yu, you weren’t showing off just now. You allowed me to witness your skills in percussion and auscultation. Your reputation is truly well-deserved."
"Frankly speaking, I can’t reach your level."
Hearing this, Yu Zhiming stopped being modest and replied graciously, "Dr. Qi, thank you for your recognition and praise. I’m greatly encouraged!"
A look of appreciation appeared on Qi Yue’s face as he said in a serious voice, "Dr. Yu, I came here today for two reasons."
"First, to formally invite you, Dr. Yu, to join my medical team."
"Second, to have you examine Wenzhu’s body and investigate whether there are any problems with her heart."
Qi Yue looked at Yu Zhiming with a smile, his eyes crinkling. "Dr. Yu, are you interested in taking on a new challenge and coming to Binhai Huashan Hospital to study and work?"
