Yu Zhiming was indeed quite satisfied with his current situation.
He was fairly well-known at the hospital and was often praised.
Life in the small county was quite comfortable, thanks to the occasional care from his sisters.
Most importantly, the specially soundproofed room basically allowed him to get a good night’s sleep.
Of course, Yu Zhiming would never admit that his ambition had been corroded by a life of ease and comfort, or that he feared challenges and change.
"Fourth Sister, the reason I’m hesitant is mainly because Mom and Dad are getting older. As their only son, it’s only natural for me to stay by their side and take care of them."
Yu Xiangwan scoffed, her voice laced with disdain. "Give me a break. You, take care of Mom and Dad?"
"Ever since we were kids, you’ve always been the one everyone in the family worries about and takes care of."
She reached out and hooked an arm around Yu Zhiming’s neck again. "Eldest Sister, Second Sister, and Third Sister will take good care of Mom and Dad."
"If you go out there, make a name for yourself, and bring honor to the Yu Family, that would be the best and greatest reward for Mom and Dad, and for us sisters."
Yu Zhiming pried Yu Xiangwan’s arm off, nitpicking, "Eldest Sister, Second Sister, and Third Sister will take care of them, but why did you conveniently leave yourself out?"
"Trying to be the unfilial daughter?"
Yu Xiangwan giggled. "I’ll take care of you! I’ll follow you to Binhai and look after your daily needs."
"That way, you can adapt to life in Binhai better and faster, and Mom and Dad won’t have to worry about you."
Yu Zhiming was not moved in the slightest. He pursed his lips and asked, "What about your real estate agency? Are you just going to abandon it?"
Yu Xiangwan sighed. "This past year, I spent more than I earned. With the way the real estate market is in the county now, it’s not going to get better in the next ten years."
"I might as well go to Binhai with you and look for new opportunities!"
After a short pause, Yu Xiangwan asked curiously, "Fifth Brother, what’s the story with that guy in Binhai who had the cardiac arrest?"
Yu Zhiming explained, "It was that time after the New Year. A patient’s family asked me to accompany them while transferring the patient to a hospital in Binhai for treatment."
"After I was done, I went to the famous South Bank of the Pujiang River for a walk."
"The patient’s son, who was with me, was being clumsy and accidentally knocked a guy over."
"So I gave the guy a physical check-up and unexpectedly discovered he had some heart problems."
Yu Xiangwan let out a small "Oh," then asked, "That guy didn’t try to scam you or anything, did he?"
Yu Zhiming shook his head. "The man was quite polite. He took my business card and didn’t try to hold us up."
Yu Xiangwan rolled her eyes. "His politeness must have been pretty limited, huh?"
"According to Dr. Qi, he only survived this time entirely thanks to your diagnosis."
"As his life-saver, I haven’t seen him or his family come to thank you personally."
Yu Zhiming waved his hand dismissively. "It’s a doctor’s duty and responsibility to treat patients and save lives. You can’t expect to be thanked."
"Besides, Dr. Qi found out about me through him. This rare job opportunity can be considered his way of repaying me."
"That’s a case of a good deed being rewarded. You can’t credit that guy for it!"
Yu Xiangwan corrected him, then, as if suddenly remembering something, exclaimed, "I forgot to look up the details on this Dr. Qi!"
As she spoke, she grabbed her phone, opened a web browser, and typed in search terms like "Qi Yue, Huashan Hospital."
Among the search results, she opened the official webpage.
"Qi Yue, Director of the Qi Yue Medical Research Center at Huashan Hospital, Chief Physician, neurology specialist, expert in diagnosing difficult and miscellaneous diseases, recipient of the State Council Special Allowance..."
Yu Xiangwan read a few lines and nodded lightly. "So he’s not some kind of fraud. He’s a real medical expert with solid credentials and a high-ranking position."
"Hey, Fifth Brother, haven’t you always complained that the county hospital only lets you do minor surgeries like for hernias, appendicitis, hemorrhoids, and C-sections, and that you can’t truly understand the internal organs in detail?"
"This invitation from Dr. Qi is a golden opportunity to achieve your dream."
Yu Zhiming nodded in agreement.
No matter how clear his auscultation and percussion were, he was still examining through the skin. An accurate diagnosis required a detailed understanding of the human internal organs.
Both Jishui Medical College, where Yu Zhiming had studied, and the county hospital where he worked, simply didn’t have the resources to provide him with opportunities for a thorough understanding and detailed study of human anatomy.
His foundational medical knowledge wasn’t detailed or solid enough, which meant that for many of his diagnoses, he knew *what* was wrong, but not *why*.
There were also times when he clearly sensed something was wrong with a patient but couldn’t make a definitive diagnosis, requiring the patient to be transferred to a larger hospital for further examination and confirmation.
But at a comprehensive, top-tier hospital like Huashan Hospital, he would have the chance to observe surgeries on any organ.
In his daily training and studies, the supply of cadavers and human organs for dissection should be guaranteed.
More importantly, Huashan Hospital would certainly have no shortage of various diseased and deformed organs for him to use in pathological research.
Just the thought of it made Yu Zhiming’s heart pound and his blood rush with excitement.
It was as if the gates to an endless treasure trove were just waiting for him to gently push them open.
Just then, Yu Zhiming felt a nudge on his shoulder.
"Fifth Brother, there’s another huge benefit to going to Binhai."
Yu Xiangwan drew out her words, tempting him, "And that is... you can escape Mom and Dad’s nagging about getting married."
"And..."
"...Eldest Sister, Second Sister, and Third Sister constantly trying to set you up on blind dates."
"Just think about it, doesn’t that make you happy?"
Yu Zhiming shot her a sideways glance and snorted, "That’s the real reason you want to follow me to Binhai, isn’t it?"
"You’re older than me, you know!"
He then changed his tune, trying to persuade her, "Fourth Sister, you shouldn’t be so picky. Just find someone you like and get married."
"Then work hard to have two sons, let one of them take the Yu surname, and carry on the Yu Family line."
"Mom and Dad can’t count on me for that."
Yu Xiangwan started to get angry.
"Fifth Brother, you’re just making trouble for yourself! So what if someone’s breathing is too loud for you to sleep in the same bed?"
"You two can just sleep in separate beds after you’re done. It won’t delay getting pregnant and having kids at all."
Yu Zhiming said sullenly, "A newlywed couple that doesn’t sleep together... their relationship won’t last very long."
Yu Xiangwan said dismissively, "When you’re successful and rich, forget not being able to share a bed—even if you have a ton of other bad habits, there will be beautiful girls with great figures crying and begging to marry you and no one else."
"I would never marry a materialistic girl like that!" Yu Zhiming was a firm believer in marrying for love.
Yu Xiangwan’s eyes crinkled with a smile. "When all is said and done, it’s not that they can’t count on you, it’s just that you haven’t met a girl you truly like."
"This county is tiny. All the high-quality girls left long ago. But Binhai is a huge international metropolis, full of talented people. What kind of outstanding girl couldn’t you meet there?"
"Fifth Brother, am I right or am I right?"
Yu Zhiming grunted twice in response.
Yu Xiangwan chuckled and fanned the flames.
"Fifth Brother, remember when you took the grad school entrance exam? In the second-round interview, they picked two out of three candidates. Even though you had the top score on the written test, the other two with lower scores leapfrogged you and you were eliminated."
"I still remember someone swearing an indignant oath that they would make that professor regret it."
This remark hit a sore spot for Yu Zhiming.
He said resentfully, "My written exam score was fifty-two points higher than the person in third place, and I thought my interview performance was decent enough."
"The interviewers must have deliberately given me a low score."
Yu Zhiming turned to Yu Xiangwan and huffed, "Fourth Sister, you don’t need to provoke me. I never intended to refuse Dr. Qi’s invitation in the first place."
"But this isn’t a small matter. It requires careful consideration and a discussion with the family."
"Also..."
Yu Zhiming was just about to say that he also needed to figure out Dean Wu’s true attitude, lest the Dean was just putting on a generous act for Dr. Qi while secretly being unwilling to let him go.
Just then, Yu Xiangwan shot up to her feet.
She yelled excitedly, "I’m calling Eldest Sister right now to tell her!"
As she said this, she was already dialing their eldest sister’s number.
The call connected quickly.
Before Yu Xiangwan could speak, Yu Zhaoxia’s panicked voice came through the phone.
"Lao Si, Lao Si, what’s wrong with Fifth Brother?"
Yu Xiangwan quickly explained, "Eldest Sister, don’t worry, it’s not bad news, it’s good news..."
Then, in just a few sentences, she explained that Dr. Qi had invited Yu Zhiming to work in Binhai.
The moment Yu Xiangwan finished speaking, Yu Zhaoxia’s voice, seething with anger, came from the phone.
"Yu Xiangwan, you damn girl! Calling at a time like this... are you trying to scare me to death?"
"You just wait. See if I don’t beat you to death tomorrow morning..."
