Her lips trembled, the ghost of a small, disbelieving smile tugging weakly at the corners of her mouth. Her hand twitched against the blanket, as if trying to reach for him, but the effort seemed to drain what little strength she had left.

"You look..." she murmured, her voice so frail and thin it seemed to waver on the edge of vanishing entirely, "very different."

The words came out slow, each syllable costing her visible effort, her chest rising and falling in shallow, labored breaths between them.

The sound of her voice, so weak, so far removed from the bright, playful tone he remembered from their childhood beneath the mountain, cut through Kahn like a blade sharper than anything forged from steel.

He had faced down inner disciples, crushed an elder’s heart with his bare fist, and felt nothing but cold, controlled fury the entire time. But this small, broken whisper from his little sister brought him closer to breaking than any of it had.

"I do?" Kahn asked, genuinely confused by her words, his mind too consumed with relief and grief to fully register what she meant.

He hadn’t thought about his appearance at all since the moment the chains had crumbled to dust around his ankles.

Every second since his awakening had been consumed by rage, by the singular, desperate need to find her. He hadn’t so much as glanced at his own reflection.

Sera’s glassy eyes remained fixed on him, tracing slowly over the unfamiliar planes of his face, before her eyelids fluttered and began drifting shut again, the last of her strength finally spent.

Kahn gently caught her hand before she could slip fully back into sleep, pressing it softly between both of his own.

"Rest," he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. "I’m not going anywhere. I promise."

A faint, barely perceptible squeeze answered him from her fingers before her breathing deepened again, settling back into the slow, steady rhythm of exhausted sleep.

Kahn remained kneeling beside her for a long moment, simply staring at her peaceful face, before her earlier words finally settled properly into his mind.

He frowned slightly, glancing down at his own hands, at the smooth, unblemished skin that had replaced the countless scars and bruises he’d carried for years.

He hadn’t questioned any of it. The physique, the strength, the healed wounds. It had all simply been part of the miracle that saved him from that cell.

But he hadn’t actually looked.

Slowly, he rose to his feet, his gaze drifting toward a small, cracked mirror hanging crookedly on the wall near the writing desk, half-covered by a discarded robe.

He stepped toward it, brushing the fabric aside, and the reflection staring back at him stopped him completely in his tracks.

His hair was white.

Not the dark, unruly brown he had carried his entire life, the same shade his father had once ruffled affectionately beneath the mountain moonlight, but a pure, brilliant white, falling inches longer than he remembered, framing a face he barely recognized.

Kahn lifted a trembling hand, running his fingers slowly through the pale strands, half convinced the dim lantern light was simply playing tricks on his exhausted eyes.

But the color didn’t shift or shimmer away like some kind of illusion. It remained stubbornly, undeniably white beneath his touch.

"When did my hair change color...?" he muttered under his breath, more to himself than to anyone else in the room.

He leaned closer to the cracked glass, studying the rest of his reflection with a growing sense of disbelief. In the chaos of his awakening, the agony of his physique tearing itself apart and rebuilding from nothing, the desperate search for Sera, and the brutal violence that had followed after, he simply hadn’t stopped long enough to actually look at what he had become.

The face staring back at him was sharper than the one he remembered, the soft, undefined features of his youth replaced by a leaner, more defined jawline, high cheekbones catching the flickering lantern light in a way that lent his entire face an almost aristocratic edge.

His eyes, once a plain, tired brown, now held a clear, piercing darkness that seemed to carry weight and depth far beyond his actual age.

He had been called handsome before, back on Earth, in his old life of privilege and comfort. But this was different.

This felt less like the product of good genetics and more like something deliberately, meticulously refined.

"Wow..." he muttered, tapping his own cheek lightly with two fingers, half expecting the reflection to somehow prove false under direct contact.

The skin beneath his fingertips remained solid, warm, and undeniably real.

A quiet, disbelieving huff of laughter escaped him, equal parts amusement and lingering shock. Of all the impossible things that had happened to him tonight, somehow catching sight of his own transformed reflection managed to catch him entirely off guard.

Behind him, still standing frozen near the doorway where he had been left completely forgotten during the entire emotional exchange, Ter watched the scene unfold in disbelief.

His mind, already stretched thin from the sheer, relentless barrage of impossibilities he had witnessed over the past hour, felt like it was finally beginning to crack entirely under the weight of this newest revelation.

He had watched this white-haired stranger crush an elder’s ribcage with a single punch. He had watched him effortlessly slaughter skilled inner disciples in seconds.

He had personally clung to the desperate theory that some powerful, unknown cultivator had stolen the body of a pathetic, broken slave to explain away the impossible strength radiating from the man’s aura.

And now, that same pathetic, broken slave’s little sister had just opened her eyes for the first time in months, looked directly at this monstrous stranger, and called him brother.

"Brother...?" Ter repeated silently to himself, his lips moving faintly without any actual sound escaping them.

His eyes darted rapidly between Kahn’s reflection in the cracked mirror and Sera’s sleeping form on the bed, as if trying to force the two conflicting realities to somehow merge together into something that made sense.

It couldn’t possibly be real. It shouldn’t have been possible.
