Aurora took another step forward. Her voice wasn’t aggressive or loud, but precise. And it did exactly what she wanted.
A flicker of tension crossed Lyria’s face.
"You hide behind concern," Aurora continued softly, "but your eyes say something else entirely."
Lyria’s fingers clenched slightly and her gaze sharpened as if warning Aurora to continue talking nonsense.
But Aurora didn’t stop.
"You don’t hate me because I’m dangerous," she added. "You hate me because I existed near what you wanted... and now someone else has it."
She spared a quick glance toward Calix and Soren as she finished speaking, noticing how both men stiffened visibly even though they didn’t seem to understand the implication behind her words.
On the other hand, Mira just blinked in confusion.
And Lyria... her face went pale for a fraction of a second before flushing red with anger.
"That’s-!"
"Untrue?" Aurora cut in calmly. She didn’t raise her voice. She didn’t need to because the strike had already landed - clean, precise, and impossible to ignore.
Then, she stepped back slightly and her expression returned to calm as if she had simply stated a fact rather than dismantled someone’s facade in front of an audience.
"If you want to accuse someone," she added lightly, "at least make sure you are not exposing yourself in the process."
A heavy and unforgiving silence followed.
Lyria stood there, her expression twisting as she struggled to respond. Her usual composure cracked just enough for everyone to see.
And Aurora just simply turned away.
Lyria pressed her lips into a thin line, her expression far from pleased, yet for once... she didn’t speak. It wasn’t because she didn’t have anything to say. It was because something about Aurora made her hesitate.
The Aurora she knew had always been loud, crude, and desperate for attention. That woman would have already thrown a tantrum, twisted words, or clung shamelessly to Calix and Soren in an attempt to gain sympathy. She would have played the victim, exaggerated every slight, and turned the situation into chaos.
But this Aurora... did none of that.
She stood there calmly with a straight posture and composed expression, as if she had nothing to prove and no one to impress. She didn’t even spare the brothers more than a passing glance, let alone chase after their attention like before. Her appearance alone was enough to shake anyone familiar with her past - the filth, the stench, the careless neglect that once clung to her was gone. In its place was something... clean and controlled.
And most unsettling of all were her eyes. They looked sharp now, observant. As if they could peel back layers and see through people.
Lyria felt it... that quiet pressure, that uncomfortable awareness. And for the first time in her life, she found herself unsure how to handle Aurora.
Her gaze lingered on Aurora longer than intended with thoughts churning behind her eyes. Did the Beast God truly change her? The idea sounded absurd, but nothing about the woman in front of her matched the Aurora she had known.
And that uncertainty was far more dangerous than hatred.
The silence stretched just long enough to force action.
Calix exhaled slowly, shiftinghis shoulders as if he had come to a decision. He stepped forward and settled his gaze on Aurora, no longer looking as hostile as before but still guarded.
"We were... wrong," he said, the words clearly not easy for him. "We shouldn’t have acted without understanding the situation."
Beside him, Soren clicked his tongue softly. His irritation was still evident, but he didn’t argue. "You weren’t harming Mira," he added shortly. "That was our mistake."
It wasn’t a perfect apology, but it was enough.
Aurora looked at them for a moment with an unreadable expression on her face before giving a small nod. "Noted," she said simply, neither dragging it out nor making a show of forgiveness.
And just like that... she let it go.
The ease with which she moved on left several people surprised. There was no smugness, no lingering hostility, no attempt to gain more from the situation. It was as if the apology had served its purpose, and nothing more was needed.
But what she did next truly stunned them.
Aurora turned, not to one person but to everyone present. And then... she bowed.
The movement was slow, deliberate, and completely unexpected.
"I apologize," she said, her voice steady but softer than before. "For everything I have done in the past."
The clearing fell silent.
No one moved or spoke as shock rippled through the group, visible in every widened eye and frozen expression.
"I know an apology doesn’t erase anything," Aurora continued, still slightly bowed before straightening again. "And I don’t expect it to." Her gaze swept across them briefly - not pleading, not defensive, just... honest. "But I will change," she added calmly. "That much, I can promise."
There were no excuses, no justifications, just a simple and direct statement.
For a moment, no one knew how to respond. Because this was something none of them had ever seen before or expected. Not from her.
Even Lyria was momentarily speechless. Her brows furrowed slightly as she tried to process what she had just witnessed.
Mira, however, watched with quiet understanding and something soft flickered in her eyes.
Aurora didn’t wait for a reaction. She had said what needed to be said - nothing more and nothing less. So she shifted her attention away, as if the matter was already behind her.
The faint sweetness in the air caught her notice.
Right on time.
She glanced toward the fire, her senses confirming what she already suspected. The scent of roasted sweet potatoes had begun to spread, subtle but unmistakable.
She crouched down near the charcoal and started carefully moving aside a few embers before pulling out one of the smaller tubers. The skin was slightly charred and the heat radiated through it as she inspected it briefly.
"The small ones are ready," she confirmed.
The larger ones, however, were still firm. So she placed them back into the charcoal and covered them lightly again before focusing on the one in her hand.
With practiced ease, she peeled back the thin burnt skin, revealing the soft, golden flesh beneath. Steam rose gently from the tuber and the aroma intensified.
She broke a piece slightly, testing the heat before turning toward Mira and extending it to her. "Careful," she said. "It’s hot."
Calix and Soren tensed immediately.
"Wait-" Calix started.
"Mira, don’t just eat-" Soren added, stepping forward instinctively.
But Mira simply lifted a hand and stopped them both. "Relax," she said in that calm but firm tone. There was no hesitation in her movements as she accepted the roasted tuber from Aurora. She curiously examined it briefly before bringing it closer.
Aurora watched quietly. The others leaned in subtly. Even Lyria didn’t look away as Mira took a small, careful bite.
For a brief second, there’s nothing. But then he eyes widened.
The reaction was immediate and unrestrained.
"This-" she started, clearly surprised, and took another bite before finishing her sentence. "This is amazing."
The words carried weight. They were real and unfiltered, and came from someone every person present there trusted.
And that alone changed everything.
