9 – Something the Modern Era Lacks
Yu and his men were thrilled beyond words when they heard this.
“Thank you, Immortal! The hardest part of digging the channel will be the rocks and mountain stone. With this, we’ll surely make the waters return to where they belong even faster!”
People of prehistoric times didn’t know many idioms yet, but Li Ziyin could feel their most sincere joy.
She said, ”Let me demonstrate for you.”
……
While Li Ziyin was copying historical records in the ancient era until her head spun, Elder Xie at the Transmigration Base had been in a constant state of anxiety.
That anxiety began the moment Li Ziyin ”disappeared” into the white mist.
Before departing, she had said that if all went well, she would return within a week.
If seven days passed and she still hadn’t returned, it meant she had either run into danger— or she had run off!
She had said before that the Transmigration System would send her to whatever plane it chose, completely beyond her control.
Which meant the danger was uncontrollable.
Elder Xie was on edge, terrified that something would happen.
And terrified of losing this treasure!
Xie Rongyu tried to comfort him. “She’s experienced. Nothing serious is likely to happen to her.”
He had later had people look into it.
Huo Yu, who had been neatly thrown over Li Ziyin’s shoulder, spent two days in the hospital.
It was a concussion.
Her movements at the time had flowed like clouds and water, effortlessly achieving that result.
Which showed her combat strength was nothing to sneeze at.
Moreover, she had leisurely brought back resources from an interstellar plane.
She was even less to be underestimated.
Elder Xie shot him a fierce glare.
“You brat! That’s a treasure of the nation, and the old man’s savior! Who told you to be so casual about it?!”
Xie Rongyu was helpless.
“Look, she managed to rescue you in just three days, and her medical skills are extraordinary. She’s bound to be a treasure wherever she goes.”
Elder Xie grew even more irritable.
“So you know she’s a treasure wherever she goes?! Then why aren’t you taking this seriously? If she gets poached by some other plane, we won’t even have a place to cry!”
Xie Rongyu opened his mouth— only to find that anything he said would be wrong.
He had only himself to blame: in trying to comfort his grandfather, he hadn’t treated Li Ziyin like the treasure she was.
……
The flood had already reached the tribe’s settlement, so Yu naturally began flood control nearby first.
He chose a route to dig first, planning to divert the water in another direction.
Li Ziyin followed him to the planned starting point, buried the explosive under the soil, and left the fuse exposed.
Li Ziyin lit it herself.
Like a child setting off firecrackers—she lit the fuse, covered her ears, and shouted for everyone to run!
“BOOM!”
The moment Li Ziyin yelled “Take cover,” the ground erupted with a sky-shaking roar!
The rumbling lasted a good while, and her ears kept ringing.
She picked herself up off the ground, looked at the huge crater blasted out at the starting point, and pointed it out to Yu and his companions.
She emphasized heavily: “This is the effect of this thing. So after lighting it, everyone must stay far away, or you’ll be blasted to ash!”
Yu and his men gaped, nodding dumbly.
They couldn’t even speak.
Li Ziyin smiled slightly, her deeds hidden and her fame unclaimed.
After this incident, Li Ziyin’s reputation as an immortal grew even greater.
People worshipped her wherever she went.
She eventually went numb.
She just pretended she was still world-hopping and accepting bows from paper characters.
Thinking of it that way, she no longer worried about it shortening her lifespan at all.
After handing the goods over to Yu, Li Ziyin wandered around while there was still time.
She wanted to find some other things to bring back to the modern era.
In ancient times, there should have been many plants and animals that are now extinct in the modern world.
If she could find some, the botanists would jump for joy.
Li Ziyin wandered around for two days before finally discovering two types of plants that didn’t exist in modern times on a mountain.
If she remembered correctly, the botanist had shown her photos of them during the villa training?
Li Ziyin’s head was groggy, and she couldn’t recall their names.
So without further thought, she dug up two plants and put them, along with the soil, into her Space Button.
Then, following the women who went out to gather, she discovered several kinds of Ancient Fruit—also nonexistent in modern times!
Li Ziyin was in love!
When Li Ziyin transmigrated, apart from a burst of white mist rising in the glass room, none of the connected machines detected any spatial fluctuations or magnetic field changes.
Even if Einstein came back to life, he’d probably have a headache over this.
Faced with this situation, all the experts and scholars at the base were at a loss.
So they had absolutely no way to predict when Li Ziyin would return.
It was the seventh day since Li Ziyin had transmigrated away.
The entire base was buzzing with restlessness early in the morning.
A whole week had passed.
Barring any accidents, Li Ziyin should be coming back.
Xie Rongyu hadn’t left the second floor since yesterday—he had actually spent the night right outside the glass room.
The staff members were all astonished when they saw him.
The young master of the Xie family, refined as jade.
He had entered the military district since childhood and had carried out classified missions many times.
Deeply valued by the big shots at the central command, everyone knew he was destined to rise steadily.
The staff had originally assumed that his appearance at the base was merely for a mission.
But they never expected that this whole week, he wouldn’t leave the base for a single step, and was even staying in the villa specially arranged for Li Ziyin.
To wait for Li Ziyin’s return, he hadn’t even gone back to rest at night.
To anyone who looked, he was truly anything but ordinary toward Li Ziyin.
…Even heroes can’t resist a beauty’s charms.
Just as they were thinking this, a thin mist began to rise inside the glass room.
Xie Rongyu’s expression tightened, and he strode forward.
The others hurried to their respective posts.
The top-tier medical team put on protective suits and waited outside, ready to rush in and rescue her at any moment.
The white mist grew thicker and thicker, and everyone watched unblinking.
As soon as the dizziness in Li Ziyin’s head passed, she was met with dozens of bright eyes.
Xie Rongyu’s phoenix eyes swept quickly over her.
Pre-Qin style clothing, the hems of her garments and her shoes covered in mud.
Her already pale little face had even less color, and she had lost weight from her time deep in the mountains.
On the surface, she didn’t appear injured.
But her condition wasn’t great either.
Xie Rongyu frowned and tilted his head slightly toward the medical team.
The medical team immediately understood and rushed into the glass room to give Li Ziyin a checkup.
Xie Rongyu stood outside, watching the entire time.
Considering that Li Ziyin was a girl, most of the doctors on the medical team were women.
When it came time to remove her clothes for examination, Li Ziyin stopped the doctor. “…Curtain.”
The doctor’s assistant carefully glanced at Xie Rongyu outside.
Xie Rongyu turned his back.
The assistant breathed a sigh of relief and drew the curtain from inside, blocking the view from outside.
After the series of examinations confirmed that Li Ziyin wasn’t injured, the doctor and assistant went out to run tests on the drawn blood.
Xie Rongyu also put on a protective suit and came in carrying a laptop.
“Can you still hold on?”
Li Ziyin had changed back into clean clothes and was originally full of energy, but the moment she saw him, her legs went weak.
Her eyes shifted. “What do you want?”
