Fu Corporation
A group of young women in the secretarial office were anxiously adjusting their appearances. They were all graduates of prestigious universities, some even with master’s degrees—young, capable, and full of potential.
Secretary A, fresh out of college: “Do you think President Fu might not come to the office today? I spent an hour on my makeup this morning and even took a taxi to get here.”
Secretary B: “Ah, you young graduates are so energetic. These days, I’d rather skip washing my face and just come straight to work.”
Secretary C, also a recent graduate: “There are quite a few talented young men in our company. I’ve got to seize this opportunity.”
Secretary D, with years of experience: “President Fu is like an unattainable flower—deep and reserved. For ordinary girls like us, there’s no hope there. But we can always admire Assistant Lin. He graduated from an Ivy League school and has been with President Fu for years. His future is bright.”
Secretary A was surprised: “Assistant Lin graduated from an Ivy League school?”
Secretary B, who had been with the corporation for years, knew more about the inner workings. “When President Fu took over the corporation four years ago, Assistant Lin was already by his side. Back then, the corporation was in the midst of its darkest internal power struggles—full of scheming and turbulence. If Assistant Lin had been even slightly less capable, he would have been pushed out long ago.”
“There was such a thing?” The two young secretaries were astonished.
“After the incident four years ago, most of the senior employees who took sides were dismissed. Don’t underestimate Assistant Lin’s position. He may not hold a high-ranking title, but he’s President Fu’s right-hand man and has significant influence.”
After saying this, she reminded them, “Let’s keep this between us. Don’t bring it up within the corporation if you want to keep your jobs.”
Secretary E hurried in from outside: “Sisters, I saw Assistant Lin heading to the secretarial office. Get ready.”
The secretaries immediately straightened up, returning to their seats and typing furiously as if sparks were flying from their keyboards.
The secretarial office was under Assistant Lin’s supervision. He walked in, glanced around, and said, “The meeting has been postponed by half an hour. Notify all department heads and managers.”
“Also, have you completed the tasks I assigned yesterday? President Fu will be reviewing them shortly.”
“Everything is ready. When should we bring them to President Fu?”
“After the meeting. President Fu will arrive in half an hour. Go and prepare.”
“Understood.”
After giving his instructions, Assistant Lin hurried off to meet with department heads to discuss project progress. He sighed inwardly. He never thought he’d misjudge the situation one day. He had assumed the boss wouldn’t come in today, giving him a bit of a break. But it seemed the boss had managed to pull himself out of his cozy haven. Looks like Miss Su wasn’t persuasive enough!
Su Luoyan, who was getting a facial, sneezed. The beautician immediately asked, “Miss Su, are you cold? I’ll have someone bring another blanket right away.”
Seeing the beautician about to make a call, Su Luoyan quickly stopped her. “No need. The heating is already strong enough. Another blanket would just make me sweat.”
Fu Siqi smoothed out a wrinkle in her facial mask. “You’re not catching a cold, are you? You look a bit pale today.””I’m on my period.” She hadn’t really wanted to go out today, but Fu Siqi said she had a falling out with her roommate and urgently needed comfort, so she came out anyway.
If she hadn’t been wearing a face mask, she would have rushed over to give her best friend a hug, saying with deep emotion, “Yan Yan, you’re really too good to me. I love you to death. I wish I could marry you.”
Su Luoyan wasn’t buying it. “No thanks, my sexual orientation is normal. I’m not into girls.”
“Tell me, what happened between you and your roommate?” She was all ears, ready to listen.
Fu Siqi sighed and explained the whole story from beginning to end.
“I’ve always kept a low profile at school. That day, Eldest Brother dropped me off, and my roommate saw him. Without asking me, she posted the photo on the campus forum, which caused a lot of controversy. People thought I was being kept. Luckily, my parents are friends with the dean, so they managed to keep it under wraps.”
Growing up, she had always been protected by her parents and Eldest Brother, never needing to get involved in scheming or power struggles. To outsiders, she seemed like a carefree, naive little princess. But coming from such a family, how could she not understand the darkness? She simply despised the deceit and self-interest. Over these four years, she just wanted to live a normal, happy college life like any other girl.
Su Luoyan listened quietly. Fu Siqi didn’t need a comforter—she needed a listener. She just needed to vent her frustrations; the rest, she knew exactly how to handle.
“Yan Yan, I really hate all this scheming and backstabbing. Honestly, before this, I didn’t have a strong impression of that roommate. I have so many friends, and I rarely stay in the dorm. I thought we’d just peacefully get through these four years.”
“I asked her why she did it. She said she was jealous of me—jealous that I’m a local, jealous that I have a boyfriend who’s the student council president and popular with both students and teachers.”
“What kind of reason is that? Though, I guess I am pretty enviable.”
Su Luoyan agreed with that. Who wouldn’t be dazzled by such a background? At least she was self-aware.
“But jealous of me having a scumbag ex-boyfriend? Screw that. Whoever wants to take out the trash can have him. Thank goodness I keep myself clean, or I’d be worried about catching something.”
“Oh right, have you finished your HPV shots?” The topic shifted rather abruptly.
Su Luoyan was impressed by her friend’s erratic train of thought. “I got them all done abroad.”
“That’s good. When you look for a boyfriend in the future, make sure to keep your eyes open. Don’t end up like me, with your first love ruined like this.” She still felt angry about it even now.
Su Luoyan, who had been sleeping with a man just yesterday: “…”
Suddenly, she felt a pang of guilt toward her best friend. What was that about?
