***Cole's POV***
At that moment of confusion about what to do, as I was about to say a word to Adrian, Lila and Holly burst into the meeting room.
"Cole, you lied to me about Jade. She's truly your lover, isn't she?" Lila cried.
"Lila, please, not now! Can't you see I'm in a very important meeting? Can we please discuss this some other time?" I pleaded with her, but she remained insistent.
"Cole, who is this pretty lady?" Adrian asked. "She's beautiful and a true Luna, too."
"What do you mean by a true Luna?" I asked.
"Are you blind, boy? Can't you see her? She has the power to control generations of packs, but she can't use her powers," Adrian exclaimed.
"I don't understand what you mean by Lila being a true Luna. She's just my father's concubine," I replied.
"If you love her but keep denying it, maybe she doesn't even need you in her life," Adrian said sharply.
"What I see standing before us is just a normal lady who hasn't discovered her wolf form yet. I doubt she will be any good to anyone."
Lila's heart shattered upon hearing my words. She burst into tears and immediately ran back to her room, with Holly quickly following her.
But deep down, I truly cared about Lila. I think I have strong feelings for her, but I don't know what to do or who to choose between Jade and Lila.
"Since she's deadwood to your pack, can you then release her to us? We can make good use of her," Adrian requested.
"I'm afraid I can't do that, Adrian. What exactly do you want from us? If it's nothing serious, I suggest you leave at once."
"Calm down, Alpha. We have seen something better than your throne. My master has been searching for a true Luna for a very long time now, and I'm so glad that I have found one. She's all we need, Cole," Adrian urged.
"She belongs here and is definitely not for sale. Please leave my house."
"Okay, fine. We will take our leave, but be assured that we shall return for her. Think wisely, my king— a concubine or your family, which will you choose?" Adrian said before they all left my house, brimming with confidence.
I was shocked by Adrian's words about Lila and his master looking for a true Luna. What does his master want with a true Luna? I don't know yet, but I will find out soon enough.
I need to go and apologize to Lila for hurting her. I didn't mean to say those things; I just needed to make them think I had nothing with her.
"Uncle Jacob, what do you think we should do?"
"First, you have to go and find Lila and apologize for what you said. She's really hurt," Uncle Jacob suggested.
"Yes, Uncle, I know, and I will do that right away."
I left immediately to look for Lila and to offer my apologies.
I went to her room and knocked on the door, but there was no answer. I could only hear someone crying inside, and I was convinced it was her.
"Lila, please open up! I'm sorry for what I said earlier. I didn't mean any of it."
"Can you open the door so that I can come in and explain myself, please?"
There was a brief silence before I heard someone walking toward the door. It opened, revealing Lila. "Come in," she said.
"Lila, I'm really sorry for what I said in the meeting. Please, forgive me. You know I didn't mean any of it."
"Cole, are you here because they said I was a true Luna, or are you here to apologize for not telling me the truth about you and Jade?" Lila asked.
"No, Lila, I'm not here because they said you are a true Luna, which I don't believe you are. I'm here to apologize for putting you through all of this stress. I'm truly sorry."
"Do you know Jade?" I asked.
"Yes, I remember her now. She was an obstacle the whole way," Lila replied.
"Why her, Cole? Why not choose someone better?"
"We grew up together, and we had so many good memories. It's hard for me to forget her. I'm sorry about that."
"It's fine; I understand, Cole. She made your childhood meaningful. It's okay," Lila said.
"Thank you. Have you noticed anything different about yourself lately?"
"Yes, I have. I started having visions about this household—about you and your pack, Cole. I don't think you guys are safe. I think war is coming," she assured me.
"What do you mean by that, Lila? Can you please explain what you saw in your vision? But I didn't know you could see visions," I asked.
"I can't explain it; it just comes to me whenever I close my eyes. I guess it's one of my powers," Lila said.
"In my dream, I saw a white wolf and a black one fighting nonstop. The white werewolf defeated the black one, but the white werewolf was suddenly distracted by something unclear to me. When the white werewolf turned to see what it was, the black werewolf hurriedly stood up from the ground and struck the white werewolf heavily in the back. The white wolf fell down and didn't rise again," she explained.
"I guess the white werewolf is you, Cole, but I don't know who the black werewolf is yet."
"War is really coming, Cole. You have to prepare," sh
e advised.
I didn't know how to respond, but I was sure we hadn't wronged anyone.
