“She’s none of your concern Cassius,” I said to him with more emotion than I intended to spill into my words and he caught it of course he did he wouldn’t be the slimy snake that he was if he didn’t catch on to small shifts like that.
“I see so that’s how it is..
“he murmured more to himself rather than speaking to me directly.
He has that self-satisfied smug look on his face that makes it look so punchable.
Surprisingly he did not interfere with the rest of the meeting, just remain still as the rest of the council dispersed until it was just the two of us aside from aide Jake.
“Is there anything else you have to say to me?” I spoke to him in a clear tone that I did not have the patience in case there was.
“No, not yet brother. Especially when your time is so precious.”
He left and I looked at his back suspiciously until he was out of sight.
By the time he was gone my aide had something to say to me, he looked a bit skeptical about it before he finally spoke up after he noticed I was glaring at him.
“Alpha… It’s about… The woman at The annex…”
“What about her?” I asked.
He responded by saying.
“She is currently in the kitchen area she came in through the back door saying that she wanted to speak to you about something that was damaged in the annex,”
I remembered the verse that she broke and it all made sense she was just using it as a way to come and talk to me really she didn’t know when to quit.
“Tell her not to worry about it and have her escorted back to the annex,” I said while Griffin was bubbling inside of me to go and meet her this was the closest that we had been in a week, deep down I wanted to inhale her scent again, to brush my fingers through her red hair.
But that was the thoughts of a man that was ready to lose everything if I considered to those emotions I would be handing over all my power to her.
I couldn’t do that.
The council under me wanted to rebel, despite the barbaric practice that was slavery many of them benefited from it and if they themselves didn’t directly then they are associated those that admitted that it was evil would do only on the terms of it being necessary as well. We didn’t like to talk about it but the war had also battered us too, needed to rebuild in many areas and the slaves from the southern tribes were seen as the cheapest way to do it.
This was why it was rooted now in the northern parks eradicating slavery forever wasn’t going to be an easy task.
“Alpha they have been trying to take her back to the anex but she keeps refusing insisting that she wants to report to you directly, we might have to use the warriors to apply force…”
“Don’t you dare-” the words came out quicker than I was able to stop them, Jake looked at me utterly perplexed.
But he wouldn’t be my aide if he didn’t have a strong control over his emotions because he immediately straightened up.
“I understand, Grand Alpha…”
I felt like I had been mercilessly stripped in front of my subordinate.
That’s it, I’ll have to take care of things with her.
“I’m going there, tell them to clear the kitchen before I arrive.”
He nodded then began to mindlink those at the kitchen.
Once I reached the kitchen I had to hold my breath for a second.
Her scent was as pleasant as ever, no far more than that.
“Selena why are you here?”
She smiled so brightly that I was sure it with blind me, she maneuvered her way around the kitchen island over to me right the corners of her lips almost touching her ears.
“You came to see me… finally,”
I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to the way she casually steps into my space and how I want to do anything else but push her away.
I did so and she just stepped in front of me again.
“…
I broke something,” she said, “…
And I feel really bad about it,” she said it in a tone that carried everything about regret.
” Selena we have talked about this, “I said, trying not to be distracted by her scent.
“…. This isn’t going to work out no matter how much you want it to. Will it be so hard for you to just go back to the annex and live quietly there?”
In a second her features became sharper, the exaggerated jovialness stripping from her eyes.
“You are a tough nut to crack, I’ll give you that… But how long do you think you can resist the meat Bond especially since I won’t accept your rejection?”
So stubborn…so so …
“What exactly do you want?” I ask her bluntly, “… I have enough money to make sure that you don’t have to worry about it for the rest of your life, I can make sure that you spend the rest of your life in luxury… I’ll have the contract stamped with my official seal so you know that I can’t go back on my word and -”
She didn’t even consider the offer that many people would have thorn off a limb to get.
“Why can’t you understand?
I don’t want any of that…”she said dismissing it around then looking straight at me with the intensity of a dagger aimed straight at my face “I want you,”
Before I could catch my breath to say anything in response to that I heard familiar footsteps that made the muscles in my knuckle curl and tense.
“Brother…. I just heard your voice, who’s there with you?”
