The moment I crossed the gate, the air changed. Not like the forest—there, everything felt like it was watching, even when it wasn’t.

This place was different.

Controlled.

Like the world had decided to behave itself.

Behind me, the forest stayed silent.

No reaction.

No farewell.

Just that same indifferent stillness.

“…Yeah,” I muttered, rolling my shoulder as I walked forward.

“That tracks.”

The guards didn’t leave my side.

They stayed close—not touching, but never far.

Like I might disappear… or cause a problem if they blinked too long.

One of them—broad-shouldered, sharp-eyed—kept his hand near his weapon, while the other seemed calmer.

“You’ll be escorted for inspection,” the first one said.

“Alright.”

No point arguing.

The calmer one eventually spoke.

“Name’s Finn.

Ignore him.

Joe’s just like that.”

Joe didn’t react.

Finn glanced at me.

“Where were you coming from?

People don’t pass through this area.

Not with that forest behind you.”

I blinked.

“…I just came out of it.”

Finn’s eyes flicked over my torn clothes, dried blood, and general “I survived something that should’ve killed me” appearance.

“…Yeah.

I figured.”

Joe stopped walking.

“…You’re serious?”

I shrugged.

Finn stepped in.

“How long were you in there?”

That made me pause.

Time was… weird.

Survival didn’t really come with a clock.

“…A few weeks,” I said.

Silence.

Then Joe turned fully toward me.

“You survived that forest for how long?”

“A few weeks.”

Finn didn’t speak.

He just stared.

Joe exhaled sharply.

“That place wipes out trained squads in days.”

“I didn’t have a squad.”

That didn’t help.

The mood shifted after that.

What was once suspicion turned into something heavier.

Uncertainty.

Like they weren’t escorting a person anymore, but something they couldn’t categorize.

Eventually Finn asked quietly, “What’s so special about that forest?”

The hesitation in his voice was enough.

And just like that, it clicked.

Not slowly.

Not gently.

Just all at once.

“…Oh.”

I glanced back.

That wasn’t just a forest.

That was the forest.

“…Dread Haven.”

Neither of them corrected me.

We didn’t talk much after that.

The inspection was quick.

Identity.

Origin.

Affiliation.

No records.

No background.

No ties.

“…Unregistered,” the examiner muttered.

“That sounds right,” I replied.

No one laughed.

Eventually, I was handed coins and a clothes voucher.

“Fix yourself,” Joe said.

“…Fair.”

And just like that, I was out.

The city hit differently.

Cars moved smoothly along paved roads.

People walked in groups.

Stalls lined the streets with glowing items, steaming food, and weapons that hummed faintly with mana.

Magic wasn’t rare here.

It was normal.

Subtle.

Integrated.

Alive.

“…Woah,” I muttered.

“This place is beautiful.”

It was.

But something about it still felt slightly unreal, like I had stepped into a version of the world that chose a different path.

‘Status.’

‘All that’s left is Strength… then I rank up.’

I started walking again.

That’s when I noticed it.

People were staring.

“…Why are they staring?”

“…It’s my charm.”

[Incorrect.]

I stopped.

“…Excuse me?”

[Analysis: Observation is not due to charm.]

“…It is definitely due to charm.”

[Probability: 11%.]

“…That’s still something.”

[Primary factor: “escaped anomaly appearance.”]

“…That sounds worse.”

[Correct.]

I sighed.

“…You enjoy this, don’t you?”

A brief pause.

[…Maybe.]

I blinked.

“…You just said maybe.”

[Correction: Adaptive observational engagement.]

“…You’re evolving.”

[Irrelevant.]

“Liar.”

I bought clothes soon after.

Nothing fancy.

Just enough to stop looking like I’d crawled out of a grave.

A black sweater with gray pants and black sneakers

Once I changed, the stares didn’t stop.

If anything, they got worse.

“…Still charm,” I muttered.

[Still incorrect.]

“…You’re obsessed.”

[Accurate.]

I exhaled.

I didn’t take the main road back.

Too many people.

So I took a side path.

Then another.

Eventually—

An alley.

“…Why is it always alleys?” I muttered.

[Observation: pattern of poor decision-making.]

“It’s a shortcut.”

[Incorrect.]

“…Convenient shortcut.”

[Still incorrect.]

“…You’re annoying.”

[Consistent.]

The alley widened ahead.

And there were kids.

Playing.

Laughing.

Normal.

I slowed.

“…At least this place isn’t trying to kill me.”

[Premature conclusion.]

“…Let me have this.”

The System didn’t respond.

Which was immediately suspicious.

Then I noticed it.

Too quiet at the edges.

Too still.

“…You noticing anything?” I asked quietly.

[Multiple unidentified presences detected.]

“…Behind?”

[Affirmative.]

I didn’t turn.

Space gathered instinctively.

“…Let’s not do anything stu—”

A scent hit me.

Sweet.

Too sweet.

Wrong.

My vision tilted.

“…Oh.”

My body slowed.

Heavy.

Distant.

Like the world forgot how fast it should be.

“…Anesthetic…”

[Warning: spatial interference detected.]

“…Of course.”

I tried to shift—

Nothing.

Blocked.

One of the kids collapsed.

Then another.

Figures emerged from the shadows.

Fast.

Organized.

Professional.

“…Right place, wrong time,” I muttered.

[Correction: incorrect place, incorrect time.]

“…Not helping.”

My knees hit the ground.

Vision fading.

“…You’re really letting this happen?”

[You ignored prior warnings.]

“…Fair.”

Darkness took me.

Cold stone.

Chains.

“…Yeah,” I muttered as I sat up.

“That checks out.”

[You have been captured.]

“I noticed.”

[Confirmation acknowledged.]

“…You could’ve helped more.”

[Assistance was provided.]

“I ignored it.”

[Correct.]

I leaned back against the wall.

“…So I got kidnapped.”

[Yes.]

“…You let me get kidnapped.”

[You were incapacitated prior to capture.]

“…Still feels like you let it happen.”

[Subjective.]

“…You’re getting sassier.”

[Adaptive interaction.]

“…Yeah.

Definitely evolving.”

A pause.

Then a new panel appeared.

Heavier.

Final.

[QUEST ISSUED]

[Save the Slave Princess]

[Reward: ???]

[Penalty: You get SOLD]

I stared at it.

Long.

Quiet.

“…No.”

[Yes.]

“No.”

[Yes.]

“You got me kidnapped for a quest.”

[Affirmative.]

“That is insane.”

[Efficient.]

“That is NOT efficient.”

[Outcome pending.]

I leaned my head back.

“…I’m ignoring this.”

[You cannot.]

“I absolutely can.”

[You will be sold.]

“…You’re bluffing.”

[Probability of bluff: 0%.]

“…I hate you.”

[Emotion detected.]

“Don’t start.”

Footsteps echoed outside.

Closer.

Intentional.

I exhaled slowly.

“…If this is about that princess—”

[Correction pending.]

“…Oh?”

[Target identity may differ from initial classification.]

I narrowed my eyes.

“…You’re not even sure?”

[Data incomplete.]

“…And you still threw me into this?”

[Yes.]

I stared at the ceiling.

Long.

Quiet.

Then—

“…You’re the worst system ever.”

[Disagreement registered.]

“…I’m serious.”

[So am I.]

I closed my eyes.

“…Fine.”

My gaze sharpened.

“…Let’s see what kind of mess you dragged me into.”

[Good luck.]

“…Shut up.”

[Negative.]

“…Shut up.”

[…]

“…You’re doing that on purpose.”

[Yes.]

I exhaled.

“…I really hate you.”

[Noted.]

Yo.

First chapter of the day.

Tell me how it was Also for information.

This gate Amir passed through can be called something like a back door.

It is suppose to act as a barrier, although there is a barrier.

The guards stationed there are to monitor monster activities, and report any disturbances in the area.

That’s about it.

There is the main gate where the people actually pass to go in and out.

Okay I’m done.

If I left out anything come to the comments to talk about it
