Xi Yue still couldn’t figure out how, after simply taking a nap, she had woken up in a completely unfamiliar environment.
Her original single bed had become a king-sized double, and her twenty-square-meter bedroom had more than doubled in size.
As an avid web novel enthusiast, the very first thought that popped into her mind was: *Did I transmigrate into a book?*
Xi Yue got up, glanced around, and quickly hurried into the bathroom to check the mirror.
Thank goodness! It was still her own face!
Looking a bit closer, however, she noticed that the dark circles from her late nights and the few acne marks on her forehead were gone. Her palm-sized face looked fair, clear, and radiant, with soft, chubby cheeks. A pair of almond eyes made her look both innocent and sweet, paired with a small, rosy mouth. It was a face that felt both unfamiliar and deeply familiar all at once.
This… looked like a beautified, real-life filtered version of herself.
After washing her face, she inspected the bathroom. It had a circular massage bathtub, accompanied by a walk-in shower and a private sauna room.
Smelling the wonderful aromatherapy fragrance, taking in the cozy lighting and spotless floors, Xi Yue nodded in satisfaction. This was the dream bathroom she had always envisioned.
Walking out of the bathroom, Xi Yue sat on the plush, luxurious bed and began to ponder her ordinary life.
Her parents had divorced when she was young, each starting a new family with beloved children of their own, tacitly agreeing to forget about her existence.
She had been raised by her grandmother, but just as she started college, her grandmother passed away, leaving her thirty thousand yuan and a tiny apartment of just over forty square meters.
Since then, she had supported herself by attending classes while working as an illustrator and web novel writer.
Single since birth, with no significant other or close ties to care about, where she was didn’t matter to Xi Yue at all—so long as she could stay alive.
On one side of the bed was a floor-to-ceiling window, veiled only by a sheer curtain that made the view outside look soft and hazy.
Xi Yue walked over and pulled the curtain open, estimating that her room was roughly four or five stories above the ground.
Outside, pedestrians walked in small clusters of twos and threes. Their exposed skin looked deathly pale, and their gait swayed unnaturally. One of them even kicked a severed head while walking…
A head?!
Looking closer, the street below was filthy and chaotic. Abandoned cars were scattered everywhere, and several figures were crouched on the ground, gnawing on something.
Zombies! It was actually the apocalypse!
Xi Yue’s legs turned to jelly at the sight. Transmigrating into a historical era or an old-fashioned rural period to earn work points or clear wasteland would have been fine; even suffering in a tragic romance novel would be better than this. But how on earth was she supposed to survive the apocalypse?
Xi Yue slumped onto the floor, staring down at her own skinny arms and legs.
What was she supposed to do? Before transmigrating, she was an absolute homebody who never stood when she could sit, and never sat when she could lie down. In an apocalypse, she wouldn’t even be able to run away. Living past three days would be an absolute miracle.
After a wave of sheer despair, Xi Yue pushed herself up and searched around to see if there was any food.
The room was a hotel suite. Beyond the bedroom was a living room, an open kitchen, a double-door refrigerator, and a small dining counter.
There was nothing in the kitchen except a few pots and pans. Xi Yue prayed silently as she pulled open the refrigerator, only to find it completely empty.
Such a large room, yet apart from the filtered drinking water from the kitchen tap, not a single bite of food could be found.
Despair upon despair. How many days could a person survive on water alone?
Before this, she at least had food and drink. Now, transmigrated into the apocalypse, she had nothing except a nice place to stay.
Fighting zombies was completely out of the question—she didn’t even dare to open the front door.
This apartment was great, and she loved it, but she couldn’t afford to enjoy it.
Maybe she should just sleep. Hopefully, when she woke up, she would be back in her beautiful world, back in her own cozy little nest.
Xi Yue collapsed onto the bed, wrapped herself tightly in the blanket, her mind still buzzing with panic.
Forcing her eyes shut, she counted sheep and took deep breaths, slowly drifting off to sleep.
When she opened her eyes again, moonlight was streaming through the floor-to-ceiling window. It was already night…
She hadn’t gone back. She probably couldn’t go back anymore.
The surroundings were dead silent, without a single sound. Sorrow welled up in Xi Yue’s heart, her mind a tangled blur of thoughts.
“Zzzzt… Bzzzt… Hello… Universe… System at your service…”
At the sudden sound of a metallic electronic voice, Xi Yue’s eyes snapped wide open, and she leapt straight out of bed.
Her cheat code had finally arrived!
